Anthony snuck into a theater, after the lights had dimmed & the movie started.....so that he could see for himself how the audience responded to it. He found a seat up in the back....& noticed the lady in front of him was freaking out in all the right spots. At the very end of the film, he leaned forward, touched her on the shoulder & inquired ( in his Hannibal Lector voice )..."Did you liiiike it?" He said she jumped out of her seat & the popcorn & soda went flying.

I love the metaphor of Clarice descending down into a dungeon (hell, basically) and Hannibal seems like the one most comfortable one in it, as if he's the Devil himself. He does seem to rule the place, even going so far as to kill another inmate who offended him and humiliated Clarice.

Fun fact: There are two actors who appeared in both this and its prequel, "Manhunter," each actor playing a different role in each film. Frankie Faison, who played Barney here, was the SWAT captain in the climax of "Manhunter." And Dan E. Butler (who you might know as Bulldog from "Frasier") played a fingerprint expert in "Manhunter," and one of the two geeky entomologists Clarice consults with in TSOTL.

One of the rules of visiting Hannibal is you don't pass him any metal objects. Chilton was so excited to have undercut Clarice's deal with Hannibal that he forgot his pen in Hannibal's cell. It's not BS to those of us women who were 'put in our places' to live to see the changes slowly happen.

@@porflepopnecker4376 I know this isn't a fair evaluation of your perspective, but as a knee-jerk reaction this feels like a really gross interpterion of the source material. The movie has a very clear message about sexism, so recontextualizing all, or most of the sexism to be in a woman's head undercuts the movie's clear themes, and has uncomfortable parallels with real-life gaslighting. To be fair, I haven't read Hannibal, which Tomani3905 claims provides evidence for your theory, nor have I researched the theory at all to see if the film itself provides evidence that I have overlooked. If there is more evidence for the theory, I'd reconsider my initial reaction.

The original novel trilogy is "Red Dragon," "Silence of the Lambs," and "Hannibal." later, Harris wrote a prequel "Hannibal Rising." Red Dragon was the first novel filmed, but it was released (in English) under the title "Manhunter." Starred Brian Cox as Lector. Anthony Hopkins first played Lector in the film that you just watched. He became Lector in everyone's minds. So, after doing this film and the third film, they also had him star in a remake of the first film, this time under the correct title. Had to de-age him about 20 years for that, but it was a reasonably good job.

I think this may be one of those instances where the movie was better than the book. For instance, in the novel, Dr. Lecter flat-out tells Clarice what Buffalo Bill is trying to create with the pieces of skin he collects; the movie lets Clarice figure that out for herself, which works much better for her character.

@@Centane Please don't do the "Red Dragon" it's like everybody is just reading their lines from the book. And they are all great actors who did SO much better in other movies. I blame the direction that just didn't add any of the moody atmosphere, subtle fear and honestly any suspense. It should be a documentary how not to make a movie out of a good book. On the other hand the "Manhunter" that was made from same book is just great. I think it was the first time the "Behavioral Science Unit' was put on the big screen. It has everything that's missing from the "Red Dragon" and more. It's my second favorite "Harris" movie behind the "Silence" and as I read I'm not alone.

Hi dear Kamilla! May i suggest you a dark, grotesque, mysterious thriller? It's a 1986 movie called "The Name of the Rose", based on a famous book of the same name. It's a murder mystery set in the dark ages. I'd love to know your take on it. It's quite an old movie but definitely worth watching. It stars Sean Connery and Christian Slater. It's one of my favorite movies of the 80's and the novel too is awesome.

Nice one, Kamilla! I was living in Seattle when this one came out and I saw it in the theater. People were freaking out because they had their own serial killer, The Green River Killer, who had been working the area for several years by then. The movie rattled some nerves!

I feel like you would REALLY enjoy nbc's Hannibal the TV-show. The latest episode aired in 2015 but it's actually been trending recently since it was added (and then soon removed, smh) to Netflix. Even in a film like this you were looking for a romance and if I was doubtful before, that convinced me you'd really enjoy it. It's a very special show, seriously something I've never seen before and a lot of reaction channels have started picking it up. The best description of Bryan Fuller's (the writer) Hannibal is that it's a seductive melodrama, a psychological horror, toxic relationship masterclass and a poetic forbidden romance. It's filled with references to different works of art and has so many original set designs that could be called pieces of art themselves. Please give it a try!! ❤️ I know I'm not the only one that wants to see more Hannibal on the reaction channel - side of youtube :)

Our church had a "drama group". In a play I played a young woman's subconcious. At certain points of the play the lights would go out on stage and I would turn on a flashlight so that only my face was illuminated. I would then recite my lines. I channeled Anthony Hopkins for my voice character. The second that the play was over our actress bolted from the building. I had creeped her out to no end.

Centrane: possibly the best police drama you'll ever see, is "The French Connection," loosely based on actual events and people, it is a must watch. I hope you'll make time to watch this extrodinary movie. Exceptional acting by Gene Hackman, extrodinary script/screen-play and story. Don't deny yourself from enjoying this incredible movie, you won't regret it!

Hannibal drew the Duomo seen from the Belvedere in Florence, Italy and hung it in his cell. Buffalo Bill resided in Belvedere, Ohio. Did he know all along?

The Hollywood Museum has the whole prison corridor where Hannibal was kept, along with a lot of props from the movie, even the chair Clarice sits in which was actually cut down to make her appear smaller compared to Lecter.

Anthony Hopkins gets so much credit in this movie, but our girl Jodie Foster has a role that is just as impactful, she does her role so so so well. Hopkins did great in every scene he was in, but Jodie was in almost every scene, and its just as high quality.

Nice reaction. Saw your video list and see you like science fiction too. Here are some recommendations: "Interstellar" (2014), one of the best sci-fis made and you'll be crying on that one. "Avatar" (2009), just awesome! The "Back to the Future" trilogy, a fun sci-fi. And "Jumanji" (1995) one of Robin Williams best movies, and fun. ✌️😎

Wonderfully done movie, great cast and taken from a great book. The prequel Red Dragon also had Lecter helping the FBI (Clarice's boss) catch a serial killer. Do love your reactions! Reactions I would love to see, since they are underrated movies like "V for Vendetta", "Brazil" by Terry Gillingham or the wonderful "Master and Commander" with Russel Crowe doing a wonderful job as Lucky Jack Aubrey!

The first film to feature Lechter was Michael Mann's "Manhunter" (1986), based on the book Red Dragon and starring Brian Cox as Lechter. Excellent film as well. A different take on Lechter.. a bit more grounded, less campy, but still scary for what little screentime he has.
