Hopkins used to go to theaters showing the movie, sneak in when the lights were off, and sit behind people.. When the film was over and the lights were coming on, he would say in Hannibal's voice, "Did you enjoy the film?"
The reason for Clarice's lamb story, Ash, is to show that, even as a child, she wanted to protect the innocent from violence. However, after she was caught trying to run off with the one lamb she was able to get out of the pen, the lamb was slaughtered anyway and Clarice was traumatized by what she saw as her failure to save it. And that failure - symbolized by the screaming of the lambs that she heard when they were being slaughtered - has haunted her ever since (and likely drove her to pursue a career in law enforcement). This is why, earlier in the film, Hannibal says to Clarice, "You think if Catherine lives, you won’t wake up in the dark ever again to that awful screaming of the lambs." Then, later, when Clarice has solved the case, killed Buffalo Bill, and saved Catherine from the well, Hannibal asks her, "Well, Clarice. Have the lambs stopped screaming?" i.e. Now that you've succeeded at saving an innocent, does that ease your feelings of guilt for not being able to save the lambs?
When he says “love your suit” it’s his tongue-in-cheek at knowing full well what Bill intends to do with the senator’s daughter, telling her exactly what’s going to happen without them knowing.
Hannah's point also makes me think it was both this AND what she said, about her being too good looking for the moment. Good stuff on that observation.
Fun fact: Jodie Foster said while making the film she tried to avoid Hopkins as much as possible because he was “really scary.” On the last day of filming she told him that and Hopkins’ response was “I was scared of YOU!” 🤣
That's really adorable and gentlemanly response. I mean, I think we can reasonably imagine that he wasn't, but that's a rather paternal and mentorlike perspective to carry onto such a young actress. Or maybe I'm completely wrong and he was scared, but either take has a rather nice sentiment to it.
@@gnoath5684 Hopkins seems like a genuinely really nice guy. He's failed to plan awards speeches (or even attend) multiple times because he never thinks he's the one who should win, and he starred in that Transformers movie just because he thinks Transformers are cool 🤷♂️
My wife and I now go around yelling "SYMBOLISMS!" throughout the day. Also, she CAN NOT stop saying "That peppercorn action!" while flicking both wrists together obscenely. It's amazing.
The sheer horror and indignation of Hannah throughout this whole reaction is a testament to this movies power. It's truly terrifying and disturbing yet it's so fascinating.
@@justtrustash - If you want to watch another movie that features the character Hannibal Lecter, there is an Excellent movie called "Manhunter" and trust me, it gives a lot of really intense atmosphere moments, different story, but same Universe I think.
The Red Dragon shows exactly how Dr. Hannibal got caught. The actor that plays the detective that caught him is Edward Norton, from Fight Club. You both would love that movie! It's really good!
Always loved how they focus on the story of Hannibal assaulting a nurse, and his heart rate not going over 85. When the EMT in the ambulance reads off his vitals, what is Hannibal's heart rate? 84.
I think one of the creepiest overlooked details is that when Billy is screaming down the hole to Katherine, he isn’t mocking her. He’s trying to imitate her. He’s trying to replicate sounding like a woman.
@@justtrustash You two have to react to the sequel “Hannibal” Hannah might be right about Hannibal wanting to hurt Clarice…or maybe…Ash is right about how he doesn’t want to hurt her… 🤷♂️☺️ guess you’ll have to watch to find out. 🥺
11:25 A big part of Clarice's personality is that she's very class and status conscious. It's a major motivation and a major vulnerability for her. The book makes this aspect of her character much more clear, and the dramatic shift in her personality in the sequel book and sequel movie only makes sense if you understand that about her.
@@Veneficus1996I think it means she wants to look good around people. Not really in a sense of vanity, but more like she desires the respect and confidence that comes with higher class n status. I mean we've seen how some of the men treated her in the movie, so she's pretty self conscious of how she portrays herself in order to assert herself so there's no room for someone to undermine or look down on her.
Hannah's gag reflex is always the funniest friggin' thing of every reaction. And Ash, you brought up a cool point that I have NEVER thought of. When Hannibal is talking to the Senator. I never understood why he said that stuff... it was rude. And Hannibal doesn't like rude people. And making reference to the suit within that context... it's as if he knew that they maybe had a strained relationship. Or maybe even that the Senator used it for political gains... wow. how crazy. Have NEVER thought of that.
Lecter is a cold-blooded psychopath who likes to show off his superior intellect by toying with people by pulling at their most sensitive psychological levers. He was doing it to f--k with her, not because he has some sort of morality about her being dressed professionally. And he makes the comment about loving her suit because his moral compass is so absent that he thinks the rest of what he just did as friendly banter, as well. So, no, Ash totally whiffed on that. She wasn't dressed up because she didn't care about her daughter. She was dressed up because she was one of the most powerful politicians in the USA, with the army of "handlers" to make sure she'd never go on TV looking like she was completely destroyed. And why would you give a psychopath THAT much of a rush of power of letting them know you're completely destroyed? That would doom her daughter that much faster, I'd think.
@@AndyMatts44 Agreed! It was an interesting idea by Ash, but people in these comments are really projecting a lot! There's no indication that Senator Martin and Catherine had a strained relationship. Even in the book, which I have read, they didn't really say that. Also all the stuff about her being a corrupt politician...um, how would they know anything about her professional ethics? Is the reason she was dressed nicely because she's a Senator and is used to being image conscious even in stressful situtations, and has a staff who's job it is to make sure that she's prepped and put together at all times? Yes, of course! Because that's how the world works when you're a public figure! That isn't some indications that she doesn't love her daughter and doesn't give a shit that she was abducted by a serial killer. FFsake, grow up. Besides, this is a lose-lose thing for her, because if she did appear in public in dirty sweats with her hair a mess, bawling her eyes out, people would say she's overdoing it and probably is just putting a show to garner sympathy.
Buffalo Bill is a composite of several real serial killers. That bit where he fakes having a broken arm to lure the girl into the van was based on Ted Bundy.
Anthony Hopkins got his "Best male actor" Oscar's with just 25 minutes of screen time, I suppose that's still a record, phenomenal. Guys, if you want another thriller to watch, I strongly recommend Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island". Best Leonardo Dicaprio role ever in my opinion, and the plot is just mind-blowing.
The actor who got the Academy Award for least screen time was Beatrice Straight for Best Supporting Actress in the movie Network, clocking in at five minutes and two seconds. I strongly recommend that movie, not least because of the fact that it was released on the day I was born. It talks about crazy people in the news media, which is pretty relevant these days.
I always wondered why Hannibal teared up at Clarice's lamb story. Is it because he missed empathy and she made him feel that after a very long time? Is it because he missed deep human connection?
Never made that conection before, but after reading the main comment it clicked just now. I have watched the movies and read the novels years ago, when they first were released. Protecting and saving the innocent was what drove Clarice. The one thing Hannibal couldn't do - saving his little sister. She was slaughtered and eaten before his eyes by hungry soldiers when he is only a boy. If I am not wrong, his whole family is killed during WWII in Russia. At some point the hunger there were so bad because of the occupation, that people started to eat the dead. I think Tomas Harris based Hannibal on several serial killers, one of which is Chikatilo, who was also a cannibal with over 50 victims. It is assumed that he has witnesed cannibalism or even ate human meat when he was a child. I think Hannibal sees in Clarice the savior, the pure soul, that he needed to save his sister... Dunno. I am just assuming.
I think it’s because he is a psychiatrist and has been locked up for years. He got to have a breakthrough with a patient after years of not being able to do something he is exceptional at. While a monster, he still has part of him that is human.
I love how ash instantly read that Hannibal didn’t want to hurt clarice, as well as correctly predicting that he was helping her the whole time. Crazy good reaction ash!
Okay, Ash doing the mock throwing of the ... well, you know ... followed by Hannah's gagging was just priceless. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. And then I laughed harder when she gagged just looking back at the movie screen.
@@stephenwest6738 it Happened One Night Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert!!!!! I’m a huge Frank Capra fan he had another movie that almost did it again! The Philadelphia Story James Stewart won and Katherine Hepburn should have!!!
@@stephenwest6738 Actually there were five movies that won for both best lead actor and lead actress: It Happened One Night in 1934 for Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in 1975 for Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher, Coming Home in 1978 for Jon Voight and Jane Fonda, On Golden Pond in 1981 for Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn, and this film in 1991. Three of those films won all five (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay) of the major Oscars. Those were It Happened One Night, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Silence of the Lambs.
The vastly different reactions at 37:50 perfectly encapsulate why you guys are so entertaining lmao. Ash jumping up in joy and Hannah is traumatized 😂 Love your banter too.
This is in my opinion, one of the top three movies of ALL TIME. It won the big five at the oscars, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Picture, and Best Screenplay. Phenomenal work of art with amazingly complex characters and Jodie's portrayal of Clarice is something we will never see again - Clarice Starling is a very complex and relatable character who isn't overpowered, impossibly strong for her size- but rather an intelligent individual who is relentlessly embracing her femininity. Through her pure intentions and authenticity, Jodie's character became a symbol of divine power motivated by pure desires to save weaker individuals in her world. Despite the fact she will never be as physically strong as the men who tower over her, she preservers because she sees saving other innocent lives as a parallel to saving the lambs. The whole point Jodie was trying to make was that in the past, since women didn't have the strength or "heroism" that could compare to men, Hollywood often resorts to crafting lazy, unrealistic female heroines (i.e marvel women) who possess unfathomable qualities and don't come across as relatable at all. Besides this, often the only redeeming quality of women's characters in film is their attractiveness, or their relevance is limited to being as the love interest to their male costars. The Silence of the Lambs changed that when Clarice Starling appeared on screen. The producers took the time to flesh out Jodie's character, Clarice, thereby allowing this talented actress to portray an authentic female role who embodies the characteristics of someone motivated by a well-developed moral compass rather than such trivial, one-dimensional motifs (a relief for audiences). She is then juxtaposed against her male colleagues, almost all of whom are motivated purely by advancement rather than the cause itself.
Fun fact about the movie, when she told the story about the lambs, the director originally wanted to put a back flash scene while she was telling the story but the actress eyes was so good they just left it as it is. Her eyes told the story better.
This is my first time watching the two of you. This one of my top five favorite movies. I’ve always thought Dr. Lector’s comment about the senator’s suit was random, but it’s not. It was about the fact that she’s still well put together considering her daughter has been abducted by a serial killer. Most people wouldn’t care at the moment.
I always took Hannibal saying to the Senator "nice suit" as him giving another clue as to what Buffalo Bill is doing to the bodies because Buffalo Bill makes woman suits. You're right that he respects Claurice and typically goes after people that he perceives as rude with some exceptions.
Another subtle clue he gives which I love is when he tells Clarice to think about first principles: "simplicity". "Simplicity" is the name of one of the world's biggest manufacturers of sewing patterns and accessories.
I think in a way he disrespects all of them because BB has already done his evil deeds to a couple of girls but only when a senator's daughter is on the line, they take it seriously. He obviously does not care about the girl or her family or that they are considered more important than others, he is the authority now. He gives Clarice all she needs to crack the case because she is the underdog and he wants her to do it alone or die trying.
There's a reason this is still the gold standard for psychological thrillers. Still to this day Anthony Hopkins talks how hard it's been to disassociate himself from the role because it was so iconic.
12:45 OMFG!!! HANNAH'S GAGGING HAS ME LAUGHING SO HARD I CAN'T BREATHE!! HOLY FUCK, I'M DYING!!! OH CHRIST, I HAVEN'T LAUGHED THAT HARD IN A WHILE!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Everybody was playing checkers and Hannibal was playing chess. Psychological drama is way better than pure gore. These are two great performances. And to think they were never in the presence of each other for this movie. That just blows my mind.
According to Urban legend Anthony did attend a screening of the movie in a cinema and sat all the way back, just behind a woman. He heard the woman saying to her friends that Hopkins performance was creepy and really made her sweat cold sweat. When the credits started rolling he leaned in next to the woman's ear and said in his Hannibal voice/tone "Well did you enjoy it?" According to witness the woman screamed so hard that she was heard outside of the cinema/room.
The use of the Chrysalis is symbolic of 'becoming', just as Buffalo Bill was wanting to 'become' as a Moth emerging from it's cuccoon. Also, did you catch the symbolism behind the man with 'crossed eyes' who was flirting with Clarice who was the only gentleman she even slightly reciprocated with by way of conversation, he was the only one who gave her the respect of being honest and up front with her.. 😉 Also, to 'Covet' is to desire something someone else has. Ash was right, Lecter never desires to hurt Clarice.. coincidentally Lecter only 'eats' people who are disrespectful or have bad manners or are impolite, he is a cannibal with standards.. 😋 The final scene in the basement when Bill has the night vision goggles on and he reaches for her hair, he is 'coveting' it.. he had plenty of time to bash her head in if he so desired but what he wanted was the crowning glory to his suit, her hair, most likely her entire scalp so he could wear it like a hoody..
You might call him creepy, but the guy with the eye issue was the most genuine, honest, respectful offer she got the whole movie. He smiled, asked her to a nice middle class outing, and when she asked if he was hitting on her he smiled and said yes. After it was over I would probably pop by for a cheeseburger.
The difference b/w the tech guy and cops in dead body inspection scene is that cops don't look at clarice with desirability, but with sense of "what the fuck this bitch doing here!". Clarice is an intern and a women. Most cops think she is crawfords mistress, even lector points that out. And in the end, we see there is some truth to it, crawford does seem interested in her. Yet we see how brave and determined clarice is, despite her shortcomings bite her many times in the movie. The purpose of all those creepy stares is different. Jailor & crawford look at her with intent to exert their power over her, cops look at her like some diversity hire meddling in their business, and tech guy is infatuated with her.
Nope lol. Its Silence of the lambs because the slaughter of the spring lambs changed her destiny. She became part of the FBI because she was so traumatized by the screams of the spring lambs. She chose that path because she could not help the lambs and all she wanted to do was help anyone or anything. That is why he asks her if the lambs are silent now.
You see Hanna and Ash what makes Hannibal so intriguing and more deadly than just a gorefest character, is that he is absolutely calculated and methodical in his approach to tearing someone apart physically and psychologically. You must watch the Hannibal TV series. It's absolutely amazing starring Mads Mikkelsen ( one of my favorite actors).
8:14 37:30 a lot of people don’t notice but when the warden in the beginning states his heart rate never rose above 85 when he attacked the nurse was foreshadowing. When he murders the cops and the EMT in the ambulance, right before Hannibal took off the face the EMT reads out his pulse as 84 BPM. Nice little touch.
The serial killer helping to find another serial killer was based off a true event. Ted Bundy had offered to do a profile on a serial killer that was on the loose and was fairly accurate in describing what to look for.
This isn’t accurate. Although he had spoken to the FBI about ideas on the Green River Killer, little was accurate and what was could only be interpreted after the fact and was clearly nothing more than an educated guess. More BS to make a terrible human seem like some super being. The man was certainly no Hannibal Lecter, just like he wasn’t half as handsome as public sentiment remembers him. He was just another loser murderer.
@@MojiBeau So what do we do with the investigating detective's (Reichert) credit to Bundy for helping get inside the mind of Greenriver? It was not Bundy's fault that investigators did not listen when he said to stake out the bodies since (as part of his profile) the killer would return to visit the bodies. They could have stopped him long before he was actually caught.
It’s an absolutely incredible film. My dad has an old friend of his that actually worked on the production of this film. I can’t remember her name cause it’s been so long since she came over, but holy cow she was one of the coolest people I’ve met. It takes so much creativity to produce masterpieces like this it’s unbelievable.
The TV retelling of a story with the same characters called Hannibal is really worth checking out. It's quite a bit of episodes but I'm sure you guys will like it.
47:08: Yes. There are 4 other movies. Manhunt came out before this one (but that one has Brian Cox, the guy who played Striker in X-Men 2, as Hannibal). The other 3 take place in the same universe as this movie: Hannibal is a direct sequel except with Julianne Moore as Clarice, Red Dragon is a prequel and Hannibal Rising, as the name implies, is Hannibal’s origin story.
Something to remember; this was set at the end of the 80's. The glass ceiling was only recently cracked. Women almost never became FBI agents before this, so Starling drew a lot of stares from men in law enforcement. It adds to the feeling of danger for her, as well as emphasizing the idea of her being isolated and that she has to work extra hard to prove herself.
Plus, all those stares at her were the men "coveting" her. "They covet what they see every day" It's how Clarice realized that Buffalo Bill knew his first victim.
Early 80s. 1983. It wasn't so much of a glass ceiling, it was that women did not typically desire jobs like that back then, and it was weird when they did. Clarice in the books was far more ferocious than she is portrayed onscreen in either of the movies. She was an anomaly.
Chronological order of movies/serie from Hannibal (all adapted from novels wrote by Thomas Harris except the 2013 serie) Hannibal Rising (2007) Hannibal (TV Serie 3 seasons 2013-2015 need a 4th season but life is a bitch) Red Dragon (2002) and Manhunter (1986, wich is also based on the Red Dragon book but they did'nt have the official rights of the novel so they use another title) The Silence of The Lambs (1991) Hannibal (2001)
There are two more movies related to this masterpiece that I recommend: Hannibal and Red Dragon. Sir Anthony Hopkins is absolutely legendary in every role. Wolfman 2010 also one for the long list of movies you need to see and react. Detectives Ash & Hannah, you've been stunned by the performance which is the only obvious reaction but I am all about these classics and I appreciate you so much for picking them 👍🏻😎.
The little quips and smiles after she prods Ash, they are so fn cute. You can tell how much they put up with each other. And have such fun doing it. They're adorable. Stay strong you two! And a simpleton of a fan as I will enjoy your content!
i'm crying man lol 12:00 to 14:00.. already repeated a couple times just to see Hannah's reaction.. i swear i been laughing without breathing for about 30 secs xD amazing reaction you two hahaha P.S. sorry Hannah for laughing at your pain lol
Hey Hanna ands Ash, to see how Dr. Lecter was captured check out the "Red Dragon" movie. It's a really good movie, a notch below this but still really good.
Personal opinion but as 80s as it is, Manhunter is better. Regardless, they are about "Tooth Fairy" not Lecter. Brian Cox was an amazing Lecter..."It appears quite black."
These characters and ideas are a rather big and popular franchise of movies and teevee. SOTL is a tricky flick because it pulls the rug out from us, at least once. Also, the scenes between Jodie and Anthony are sublime acting, particularly the one where Starling bares her childhood/lambs memory to him; no musical score, nothing fancy, just two powerhouse actors excelling at their craft and holding the viewer spellbound and enthralled. I'd suggest a reaction to the delicous and dark 2013 American television drama series _Hannibal_ which took a different take on the character of Doctor Lecter, less campy and not as much chewing the scenery as in this movie here. Clarice is absent; they didn't get a chance to explore the novel "The Silence of the Lambs" in the three seasons that aired on NBC, only "Red Dragon" and "Hannibal" for the most part, focusing on the dynamic between FBI man Will Graham and our esteemed -cannibal- psychiatrist. The show was cancelled during its third year due to a drop in ratings/viewers and ended on a cliff-hanger which annoyed some fans because nothing was truly wrapped up in a tidy finale. While this was an NBC network show that was broadcast at 10pm each week, the themes and visuals often were much more like an HBO crime drama. The photography and design is often gorgeous and artsy, and the story is addictive and sharp. Well worth one's time. I've watched it three times. And FWIW, the third season final episode (which would be the last one filmed) actually serves as a fine ending to the show. Strangely enough, it leaves you wanting more story but also feels like a very good place to stop the drama. Warm regards to you both from Northeast Pennsylvania, USA ❤
The directing choice to shoot alot of the film with straight on camera angles is a fantastic technique to get you in Jodie Foster's headspace...and to show Hannibals ability to mentally dominate
Actually part of the genius of the directing is that Clarice always looks slightly off-centre from the camera, thus distinguishing her from Hanibal & the men in the film who look directly at the camera, meaning a) it makes it clear that Clarice is our central character because everyone else is viewed directly from her perspective, and b) it makes us as the audience feel the creepiness of the men even more because we experience it from her POV, as though they're looking at us.
You’ve got a sequel, three prequels ( although one is a remake of another one) and an absolutely amazing series although with a different actor playing Hannibal. One of the best characters eve!
@@rileyindieman1 Yea me too actually, Hopkins was getting a bit too old I thought at that point to really play the younger Hannibal. I think I'm the only person though who really loved Hannibal Rising! I thougt it was great!
@@HorribleGamingFun Oh wow I didnt even know there was one! How the hell did I miss that lol! Yea i know its heresy but the Hannibal series is just so good that for me Mads is actually the ultimate Lector for me! It was amazing!
Many tactics of previous serial killers were used for this movie. Ted Bundy would pretend to be handicapped (broken arm etc) to get women to drop their defense and it worked, he was able to abduct two women in broad daylight at a crowded lake. Buffalo Bill’s character and his skin fascination comes from Ed Gein who used the skin of his victims to make things out of, a nipple belt, human skin lamp shade…the list goes on. Great reaction, my poor dear Hannah lol you have to give some comedy for the reaction 🤣♥️
1. This thing snagged all 5 of the big OSCARS 2. IRL you're wasting your time trying to pick that up. She doesn't do men. 3. Lt. Boyle/Charles Napier😇 also played "Murdock I'm commin' to get you". Rambo II 4. Ted Levine got death threats for the performance he did playing Buffalo Bill. 5. The FBI actually let them use Quantico. 6. The lisping following "I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." was ad lib to see if she would freak out. It was the first scene thy did together and it worked.
New sub from Knoxville Tennessee, keep up the good quality. Tennessee forever 🧡 if you watch manhunter the lead character is the the guy who caught Hannibal hunting another killer. Red dragon was the remake of it. Manhunter was the first movie with the Hannibal character but was played by Brian Cox not Anthony Hopkins
Watch the sequel which will also SHOW you the intelligent detective that caught him and how. Ash if this movie does not hit your top 10, I can't respect you any more my brotha. PLEASE WATCH the Sequel "Hannibal" next. PLEASE. If you loved this movie, the sequel is a MASTERPIECE
No, no, no, NO and NO! This is a troll. The sequel was terrible. The book version was unbelievably disturbing but good... (SPOILER AHEAD: ... ... ... ...Last chance... ... ...Dr. Hannibal Lektor "turns" Clarice Starling into a cannibal serial killer like him & they become a couple) ... ...but the movie version was re-written with an appallingly bad "Hollywood-ized" ending in a failed attempt to make it more palatable for the audience. If you absolutely must react to "Hannibal", read the book first.
You need to watch Red Dragon. It is the prequel to Silence of the Lambs. You'll get to meet the brilliant mind who captured Hannibal Lecter and you'll get to see more of Hannibal himself!
If you loved this? Watch the ORIGINAL HANNIBAL LECTER movie called MANHUNTER... It's about the detective who CAUGHT Lecter.. Directed by Michael Mann with INCREDIBLE cinematography and soundtrack... Worth the watch!
The great thing about this movie is that the characters face directly at the audience in key conversations, as if they are breaking the fourth wall and talking to you instead of at the movie characters.
Winner of 5 Oscars including Best Picture. It was the first and only Horror Thriller film to win Best. Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Meg Ryan and Michelle Pfeiffer were considered for Clarice. Louis Gossett Jr Forrest Whitaker Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, William Friedkin, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Sean Connery were almost cast as Hannibal Lecter.
Fing Brilliant. I have wanted them to do this movie for a while. Hannah was itching the whole movie. Ash, please let Hannah see Dances with wolves. She needs a break from the murder movies. You'd like it a lot.
There's a prequel that explains how he was caught called Red Dragon. Some commentors might tell you to watch a made for TV movie from the 80s called Mind Hunter instead...don't listen to them. It sucks, they're just recommending it out of nostalgia. The more recent Red Dragon film has Anothony Hopkins as Lecter again, and Ralph Fiennes as another serial killer...and he did a much better job with the role than whoever that was in the made for TV one.
Love how Hannah picked up on Chilton's skeeviness immediately, not that it's hard for most to miss. Talk about behavioral sciences, let's get her into the FBI. Also she identified Barney as a decent guy (at least as far as we've gone so far).
'Who caught him?!!' May I suggest you watch Michael Mann's excellent Manhunter (or the Hannibal limited series with Mads Mikkelsen) - you'll get an answer to your question.
HANNIBAL (2001 film) is the sequel to Silence of The Lambs. RED DRAGON (2002 film) is the prequel, but the last movie with Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter.
Hey ASh you pick oup on the fac tthat Hopkins never blinks in the movie. He used that tactic to make himself be even scarier and menacing. This was to give the feeling that his gaze was penetrating your soul at the deepest levels. This technique took loads of practice from For Anthony Hopkins to achieve full-on acting with nuance while maintaining complete control of his facial features. Especially at the airport scene when he has the mask on. Hopkins has to act with just his eyes and eyebrows.
@@justtrustash You shoul dreally watch "Red Dragon" there is a character in there even more menacing than Hannibal. And he bathes in the cloth of the Sun.
Dude. With all my kindness. Stop it with the symbolism. Hannah is 100 times smarter and has better understanding of narrative, storytelling, character structure, plot devices and film theory than you know. The format should be, you for emotion, the lady for dropping knowledge. The amount of times Hannah blows me away with spotting foreshadowing, calling plot twists or a searing analysis is ridiculous. It’s uncanny. Also “her eye must be stinging!” was priceless. She’s a keeper.
You are correct. He will not hurt her. He is not interested sexually in her. She has shown determination and she has been direct but….she was also courteous. I’ll manners with him can be….deadly. He has his own sense of wrong and right. He knows he is evil but he knows Clarice is if nothing else, brutally honest and again…..mannerly and kind. He respects her somewhat In fact…..he would probably harm someone that hurt her.
When I was young I heard a goat being butchered. It is the most awful scream. It sounds like a young child screaming. I sat in my room, covering my ears as tight as possible. Did not work. Horrible noise.
Watch the prequel movie "The Red Dragon" to see the detective that caught Hannibal Lecter. Also a good movie for a prequel with Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton from American History X and another serial killer.
Dude - Good call on the "I'll bet you'd destroy that lamb if it was on the plate" comment! One of my favorite meals was when my mom would prepare for me a leg of lamb with garlic cloves, small roasted potatoes, with mint jelly. I took part on the 1991 Gulf War, where I was an advisor to the Egyptian Army forces. They fed us goat and rice every day. Goat and rice for lunch ... goat and rice for dinner. Every damned day. When I returned home after the war and made the trip to visit my mom (having been away nearly nine months), she prepared lamb for me. Apparently, I had a "look" on my face. My mom had to assure me that this was lamb NOT goat.
