Suggestion to prefer "neurodiverse" over "neurodivergent". I'm in the process of re-learning it myself but it really is the better term.

I used to love socializing (at least for short periods) and having long-term relationships. Then I got hurt badly by several people. Tried to make new connections, but my heart wasn't in it anymore. I was diagnosed with ADHD much later, and it turns out everything that I was criticized for by the people who hurt me were ADHD symptoms. Now I know the problem, but still can't move past the rejection sensitivity. Just knowing the answer helps, but it doesn't fix everything, sadly.

I feel for you, I went through the exact same thing. With friends and through two relationships, I was constantly berated for the issues I much later found out was ADHD related. I didn’t get diagnosed until age 43. I agree with you, having the knowledge helps me a lot now but I am very afraid of making connections with new people.

I am in the same position my friend @chelliespider. I tried starting an online business but because I used the rules of a neurotypical society to succeed and put too much effort into it without rest, I caught burnout, and my depression just got worse. I feel isolated, broken, unable to feel and allow myself to feel pleasure, all of which, in some ways, stem from my ADHD conditions. I am having a hard time seeing back my friends and the people I love because I have been isolated for too long and I don´t feel secure about myself. I feel like a failure that shouldn´t be allowed to rest (even though I should, and it is alright to feel pleasure). "Just knowing the answer helps, but it doesn´t fix everything, sadly"... That truly spoke to me my friend. Hope we can be buddies 😁.

I think I may have adhd, but my previous psychologist refused to even listen to why I think so, and my current one is silent on the topic. All my childhood I considered myself strange and now I have finally found an explanation for this. But the thought that I'm inventing illnesses for myself haunts me. Maybe I'm just not trying hard enough
@Izzy-uh9wp
@Izzy-uh9wp 6 месяцев назад
From what I understand, the best way to find someone who will listen to you is to actively search for a professional that is specialized on the topic. If not, they are more likely to just dismiss you unfortunately. Don't get discouraged though, specially if it affects your mental health so much! You deserve to have at least a bit of reassurance and relief. You don't need to only live through hardships and struggles all the time. You can do it!!

Agree when i went for diagnoses initially, didn't believe me i was so good at masking & had some coping skills. Look up the symptoms for adhd that apply to u then go to a psychiatrist or neurologist. They can diagnose adhd and such. Therapists, wont.

Keep looking for a therapist who really helps you and makes you feel better. I went to several doctors, therapists and specialists that resulted in nothing... I even took medications that left me with other illnesses or problems. Although I don't have ADHD, but I do have other conditions, I understand how difficult it is to find someone or something to help us. I have a very close friend who is starting treatment for ADHD, he has seen results and feels better. There are many types of treatments, I'm sure you will find one that helps you. 🌈✨

TL,DR by an AuDHD person: you are not normal. But that doesn‘t mean you can‘t find happiness, success or your own people. You just have to look in different places and find ways to accomodate for some problems. Also: you are not your productivity!

@CrazyKiwiChan
@CrazyKiwiChan 6 месяцев назад
That is the worst response any type of parent could give to their own child which most surely has ADHD. Fortunately my parents comprehended, as always. In today´s society it is even harder since everyone thinks ADHD is just "addicted, weak people"... That is far from the true, and I would most certaintly give a SLAP to every each one of them who says that 😂. It is more than addiction. It is an healthy distraction for our always speedy, scared brain. Even better, it is not a distraction, it is like a calming pill that allows us to feel happiness naturally. Lizz, if you truly suffer from it, know you are not alone... I am here for you 😊. Try taking an online test or see a therapist that might offer you a test, and then show it to your parents.

Man…I think every now and then that I might have adhd, but at the same time often brush it off, and then I find find videos like these and relate so much to them😭 I don’t feel normal, a lot of the times. I’ve always struggled with school, I would always struggle to be on top of things. And in college, I still do. I mean, when I really, REALLY try, and put 1000% effort in, things work out really well, and I get good grades. But it’s impossible for me to stick to that every day. Now I’m falling behind on assignments again. It’s only my second semester in my first year of college, and I’m already stressing out, wondering how I’m gonna do this for the next few years. I don’t feel like I’m good enough. I want to get better grades, I want to stay more on top of things, but it’s *hard.* Also as a side note, I have this little plant pot I purchased about a week ago…I’ve forgotten to water it the past few days. Every day I’m like “Oh okay let me finish this thing and then I’ll go water it.” But I keep forgetting. Now I’m not even sure if it’s even alive…this is exactly what I was worried about when I bought it. I had a feeling I would forget to water it. But I still wanted to try. Though I don’t think my efforts are paying off🤦‍♀️

@@acesinger6092 Aww that is lovely. Regardless of diagnosis or not, you can absolutely try out the tips by ADHD ppl for ADHD ppl cause they genuinely can help neurotypical ppl at times, too. If it works then it works! One plant hack I have is only having succulents which need very little water or plants that can literally stand in water and I'll notice when I can't see the water anymore so the "must water" signals are practical rather than invisible and a matter of me watching the timing! Another hack: You must have a water container right next to the plant or within reach! if you empty it, you're not allowed to put it down till you re-filled it and put it back next to the plant. It can also help to have all of this in areas where "waiting" is common. Literally in the bathroom around the sink where you'll stand around while brushing your teeth. Mines are on the windowsill next to my electric water heater. I cannot walk away while the tea water is getting boiled. I prepare my pot with tea leaves before. And while I wait for the water to boil, I can squeeze in one short action and that's watering those plants if I see they lack water. The sink is within reach so refilling is no big deal either. It's really a matter of shaping our environment more brain-friendly!

When I started school no one knew of Dyslexia I only learned of it way after my educative period. at my 7th detox admission for several addictive substances, they diagnosed me with ADHD (I was already familiar that I had a slightly different working brain, like my TL light starter was faulty I self-diagnosed some years before) cleaned up my act got clean. just reached my 60th year of living here I find it hard to have a social life I must admit, so this is my next goal, wish I knew a lot about it sooner but I know it is for all a private struggle, I wish you well those on this path. one tip, you better commit to sitting/working this out, it makes your road to it smoother, the success chances more prosperous, and the feel of its values increases. we are smart we know we are. :)

I'm so glad I saw this video, I'm going 21 and I only got diagnosed with autism at age 4, so as far as I know I only have autism which I believe is also considered neurodivergent, I do feel like I struggle with being organized with life, because of social anxiety I don't have a job yet, I struggle with going to bed at night because screentime keeps me up at night until midnight since screentime is my comfort zone, I only do that when I don't have anything important in the morning, I have a desire to learn how to live independently though I only know a few chores around the house which is dishes laundry, and throwing away the garbage so I wanna learn how to cook and clean as well, I'm also nervous about driving so I don't have a driver's liscence yet, well, I am planning to have a car that can drive itself, so yeah, this is my life as of now, I'm still unemployed, single, and living at home because well, it's not that I'm lazy, it's just that I'm not even ready yet to have a job, be in a relationship, or for independent living.

I know neurotypicals who manage their existence in the most catastrophic way possible and neurodivergents whose life is regulated like a musical score but people will quickly notice their involuntary celibacy, their impulsiveness, their forgetting of what is missing at home, shopping, etc, etc, .... neurotypicals will ask neurodivergents for help for something they can't do - because they are unemployed, they don't get high salaries because they haven't had higher education, etc., etc. , ... - and neurodivergents can take the bus if they are afraid of driving a car - they are not going to ask a neurotypical friend to take them where they want to go -. neurotypicals have desires for which they do not have the means and sometimes use their executive functions to perpetrate shenanigans that they will regret... later. Are standards a policeman or a scapegoat? do they impose themselves on us or do they owe their existence to our attachment to them - I'm still talking about standards of course -?

@KxNOxUTA
@KxNOxUTA 6 месяцев назад
There's more types neurodiversity than ADHD. You'll need to either consult a therapist or even your family doctor or be close to one of those friends you made and then you should ask them about this struggle and ask them if they could review your smile with you. If you are on the autism spectrum for example, then you might be mimicking facial expressions but smiling in particular is very tricky. Because smiling actively and smiling as a reaction to your positive emotion, do look different. They literally engage different muscles and only the later gives a warm look to your eyes, too. So when ppl detect a mismatch in the coherency of your facial expression, they can react in an alerted manner, cause they've unfortunately learned that the world is a dangerous place and ppl struggling with emotional interpretation can also - in a sense - can come as bit of a safety hazard to the ppl around them due to that disability/struggle. A friend whom you actively ask for advice or a professional can help you to regulate your facial expression down enough to minimize the awkwardness to an extent that allows you to interact with ppl for long enough to reassure them that you're OK to associate with.

You should also consider if you are masking symptoms. You could be overcompensating and as a result your grades/work seem fine on the outside. Or you could have good planners notes and calendars, writing down everything you hear so you don’t forget. Etc, I almost thought I didn’t have ADHD because of that.

I didn’t interpret it that way at all. I have ADHD and am in the camp that it is an impairment. Especially the more I learn about the neuroscience and the more I accomplish with my medication, it all points towards ADHD being the result of deficient pathways that are SUPPOSED to control other parts of the brain.
