Well done. Years ago on a deployment, a Bosnian fellow made us a pot of what he called "Turkish coffee". He made it in a sauce pan on the stove. Wasn't as careful with the grounds as you were, and warned me "The last drink in the cup will be rather strong" haha.

What a fun story! And yes the last cup is definitely the strongest with the most the chew through. S^C

You forgot to mention that it's critical that you need to make this while wearing a cowboy hat. Chaps, cowboy boots and huge belt buckle optional.

I can’t believe that I’m enjoying this type of coffee as much as a cup made from my whole pour-over setup. It really shows that you can do a lot with simplicity. It’s also quite similar to Arabic coffee where it’s boiled for about 4 minutes as well then you let the grounds sink. Great tutorial, thanks man.

Pretty darn close! My grandpa showed me how to make Cowboy Coffee a little over 50 years ago and I still make it the same way to this day. Start out the same but let the warm get pretty warm (140-150 degrees) before adding the coffee. I use 1/2 cup of Folgers (of course!) for 2quarts of water. I have an old enamel pot that is little over 2 quarts. Once it reaches boil I lower temperature or move it off the campfire so it just does a rolling boil for about 5 min. The longer you boil the stronger the coffee. After 5 min of boil, move it off heat and let it sit for a few minutes, then pour your cold water in to drop the grounds. Give it another few minutes to completely settle and you are good to go. I place it back on a stone at the edge of the fire or on a really low burner on the stove to keep it hot the rest of the day.

Instead of putting the coffee into "warm" water, I bring the water to a boil, take it off the heat source and *slowly* bring it back to a boil. If I do it to fast it boils over and there's a mess.
@bcas71
@bcas71 Год назад
It's a great way to make coffee. Like you said, the boiling makes it less acidic, so it is great if you have a lot of acid reflux anyway. I would just mention, you kind of have to watch it as it is easy to boil over and out of the pot if you aren't careful, then you have a big mess. I have my heat up high, and just as soon as it starts to boil, i turn the heat down to about medium.

Nice sombrero and coffee pot. I start with cold water and community coffee or Starbucks French Roast. Just my preferences.

Never use water from the hot water tap. Water heaters are full of impurities that are bad for cooking...

@@StartupCowboy For a 250 ml cup, we put 3 teaspoons of coffee . You can't see through it. If you drink a cup, you shake like jelly. What can I say about Folgers? Although it is a huge coffee brand and it is an iconic American brand, it is bad coffee. Folgers state on their website that they are concerned with sustainability and ethical working conditions, they reject all common certifications to ensure that this happen. The coffee supply chain used is not free of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. They don't offer an organic variety and all their coffee is pre-ground and not fresh. Although this brand is cheap and convenient, you get poor quality coffee. Wheat, soy, brown sugar, rye, acai, barley and corn are just a few of the fillers commonly found in coffee, according to American Chemical Society researchers. If you want to drink coffee, and if you can afford it, try Lavazza Tierra Colombia, Lavazza Qualita Oro, Davidoff Cafe Creme Elegant, Pellini Top.

@@michaelbailey4164 I assure you, I am not a young whippersnapper. In fact, I may be even older than you. I am 63 years old, and I have been drinking coffee since I was 16. First of all, what you call coffee, is actually water colored with coffee aroma. You can drink 2 liters a day without feeling anything. For a 250 ml cup, we put 3 full teaspoons of coffee. You can't see through it. If you drink a cup, you shake like jelly. Second, what coffee can you make if you use Folgers? What can I say about Folgers? Although it is a huge coffee brand and it is an iconic American brand, it is bad coffee. Folgers state on their website that they are concerned with sustainability and ethical working conditions, they reject all common certifications to ensure that this happens. If you want to drink real coffee, try Lavazza Tierra Colombia, Lavazza Qualita Oro, Davidoff Cafe Creme Elegant, Pellini Top. And these are not very expensive, even if their price is at least double compared to Folgers. And if you really can afford it, try DIEMME Miscela Oro $32/kg, Filicori Kave Ultra Premium $37/kg. Having said that, I wish you all the best.
