He is a bad father mostly to Bart, he even says so in a future episode "Why can he be a great grandpa but a terrible father?" But sometimes they do have good bonding moments
It’s actually really true. Believe me, I come from experience. There have been so many times people acknowledge my appearance or what I say, it drove me insane.
Lisa: I can't expect you to understand my problem. I just wish I didn't care what people think. Homer: Honey, if you didn't care, you wouldn't be human. (Gasp) Not human, I say.
@@RWSfan2024 "Yeah, Moe, that team sure did suck last night. They just plain sucked! I've seen teams suck before, but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked."
I'm sick of some of these comments calling Marge a bad mom. She's not. She's very caring and loving towards her family but can sometimes be naive. She didn't mean to hurt Lisa with the chunky comment. Sometimes even the most well meaning parents will hurt their child without realizing it. Lisa is valid for getting upset but since she didn't tell her mom that the chunky comment bothered her, Marge is left clueless. But despite that, Marge still picked up that something was bothering Lisa and tried to do something nice and get her to talk to her. When that failed, she turned to Homer to talk to Lisa in hopes he could get her to open up. When Lisa finally tells Marge the problem, she apologizes and promises to be more careful of her words. To me, this episode wanted to teach both parents and child about communication and how we can easily hurt each other with passive comments.
Anyway you should never call a kid chunky or any bad adjective, caude it hits different in kids than in adults. Of course It can slide out sometimes, It doesn't make you a bad parent. But Marge had disapointed me in other episodes with her parenting, like when she discriminate her children, as that one that Meg got a high IQ test, higher than Lisa, and she goes with "O love all my children, but some are smarter than others", It doesn't Just left out Lisa but also Bart.
Marge Simpson maybe a loving and caring mother but she is clueless and naive as she called Lisa chunky without realising that she had hurt her daughter's feeling.
Dude parents do this, just these comments don’t think about but really stick. Felt so real this, the most genuine simpsons episode seen in a long time.
i like that Homer uses reading glasses and we see them a few times also He is a good dad that understands the situation and trues to help Lisa how he can
It’s amazing how even when Homer tries to do something good, Patty and Selma continue to insult him. I wish their smoking habits would catch up with them already.
@@MatthewPiper-dv2uz there was another episode where he moved them both to tears with a heartfelt speech about marge. it was when they were parodying Saw
Homer has done so much for Patty and Selma but they can’t even give him the slightest respect. It’s not like he didn’t save them from getting fired due them smoking in a government building or help one of them to adopt a baby Chinese girl due to one of them having menopause, oh wait! Homer did do all that for them.
I remember Lisa having weight issues in an early episode and at the end the problem wasn’t solved and she said she like many others will go through it again. It’s a life long issue. I was also called chunky at eleven by an aunt who needed a large extension for her seatbelt. I know how Lisa feels.
That shit sticks with you, I won't bore anyone with details, but I will say if a parent points out your weight, malicious intent or not, the insecurities and body image issues become real at a young age, especially with young girls. In big cases, kids who grew up in the 90s during the pique of diet culture and teen vogue magazines. Poor Lisa is going through that stage in this very episode [Bart a similar situation a few seasons back when he gained weight from vending machine snacks]
Homer's definitely a bad father. But he TRIES. And while it doesn't do a lot, it does show his kids that they're loved. And that definitely counts for something.
If Homer’s biggest, longest running character flaw is caring too little (abuse, neglect, and just straight up cluelessness), Marge’s equivalent is arguably caring too much (appearances, reputation, and steeped in denial about negatives). Neither is wholly dominated by those flaws, but they do seem to inform most - if not all - of each character’s unique brand of dysfunction.
Turns out Marge hurt Lisa’s feelings without even knowing. To me, it’s quite rare when it’s Marge’s fault about something, which can be satisfying. I mean, Homer is usually the mistake maker, but it’s unlikely for him not to be.
I'm here in awe and laughing at the comments, this was a sweet scene on all sides. Just family trying to understand and wanting the kid feels loved and happy. Miscommunication happens to all of us, and honestly, if this was a series about an alwas happy and perfectly functional family like in commercials not a single person would care. Flaws makes us human.
Honestly calling Patty and Selma was the best thing he could do. He was completely out of his depth, and nothing he said could help Lisa feel better. He knew he wasn't the right person to help his daughter, but he also knew two people that could. So he called them. This is exactly what "it takes a village" means. Lisa needed her Aunts in that moment, and they were there for her without question.
Once I asked muy mom if I was indeed gaining too much weight, she told me the trutht. And yes It hurted but it was the truth and she helped me eat healthier and do more exercise. She didn't mocked me, she cared about muy health. It would have been wrong if she madre fun of me, yes, but aknowleging overweight is another thing.
Marge is a horrible Mother as thing going on. Called her daughter chunky and then had the nerve to get mad at her for doing so because she demanded gratitude
If you watched the episode you’d realize she didn’t mean anything by it. It was a simple remark and she didn’t realize Lisa was upset by it. Later in the episode Lisa tells her this and they reconcile. Marge learns to be more careful of what she says as she realizes how much her words mean to her daughter who looks up to her.
Its not too different at least. Also one of ghe voice actors in he show is 80. He does a huge ton of side characters. Enjoy the show whole you can. Could be any year now that 12 characters just vanish. Moe. Lenny, Cheif Wiggum, Cletus, Flanders and so on.
1:39 god i really do love Homer. he can be a really sweet and carrying father, especially with Lisa. i love that line “honey if u didnt care u wouldnt be human” hes not saying to feel bad about yourself hes saying its human to feel insecure and feel judged, and that shes not alone. And i do love that he called Patty and Selma, because 1. Despite him hatting them, Lisa may need women advice from someone other than her mom at the moment. and 2….worst case senario Lisa may not learn any advice but she may feel better about herself incomparison. 😂 seriously this is actually really insightful for Homer and shows how much he wants Lisa to feel better and learn how to block socialtal pressure. 🥹🥹
