Fun fact: Danny Elfman sang the 'The Simpsons' part with two friends. He made more royalties singing the show's title, than he did composing the theme tune.
Not at all! I prefer the intros before the switch to HD, because how Homer is portrayed as a goof, but smart enough to dodge the damn car. They just want him to look like a complete idiot which is why he gets hit by the car in the current intro
0:45 Fun Fact: Even though Lisa's saxophone is a Baritone Saxophone, the saxophone that plays in that version is actually a Tenor Saxophone. It was, however, a real Baritone Saxophone later on as the series goes on, which is why later on, it is an octave lower than this first one.
yeah, it's hard to believe that back in the day, Bart simply stole the bus stop instead of dodging recurring characters on the side walk, and Lisa got to the house first before homer and Bart did.
@@neo-warkid4edwards222 Amazing how quickly they discarded this intro but then kept the same one from Season 2 and onward for the next eighteen and a half years. I think this one could have lasted a few more seasons. This one is a rarity to watch in reruns because Season 1 has so little episodes and you barely see it aired compared to the latter seasons.
I remember I didn't know what this show was called when I saw it on TV when I was little so I just referred it to as "The yellow people" and turns that it became to be one of my most favorite shows
This theme absolutely did not have to go as hard as it does. They're so much musical motion. A different composer would never have made such an involved theme for a cartoon sitcom.
i also prefer how the season 1 intro sounds. that's just because that's the intro the theme was originally composed for. the newer intros have a couple of edits that also make it sound a bit janky
I have never seen this intro before. It feels so weird not seeing certain things from later seasons, but also can't believe they cut out Lisa on her bike!
Sally Stevens the solo tenor in Burt Bacharach's 'South American Getaway' from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid adds her vocals to this as well as in many songs in many Simpsons episodes 🙂
@@neo-warkid4edwards222 what recurring characters they only ever appeared in the s1 intro. and they broke most of the simpsons animation rules with the spikey hair and homer muzzle
If you had to ask me the top 3 Opening Credit sequences, #3 would be Dexter (the concept of how simple, everyday things can be brutal in a sort of context), The X Files would easily be the greatest of all time (the music, imagery, "forbidden movie feel", everything) and this is the second greatest of all time... it's basically an entire show in and of itself. There's nothing better to lots of people than the escapist feel of getting off work or school and going home, and we see it from four different perspectives- all as thrilling as one another, along with the commute home, and their racing to the couch to watch TV- and the 700 different variations of that they've done so far. It just brings back memories, doesn't it?

fun fact: the angry, hostile expression with downward slanting eyelids shown by homer as he ditches the radioactive material at 0:53, was forbidden by Groening in the style of later Simpsons drawings. there were some issues with the style of the characters at 1:00 too that made them get cut from the intro. basically it was "forbidden" for any character to have too similar appearance to any of the main characters and these came too close to that mark.
I am little tiny baby child so I haven’t watched the original Simpsons but this theme song wants me to watch all the episodes first to last, the theme song is amazing. It is a masterpiece and I am amazed about how good it is, it is a lot better that many other theme songs. I don’t know what else to add to this so I will start watching Simpsons now
I really wish they kept the old composer because the instruments on this version of the theme song sounds so much better. However, I like the Season 2 one a lot too.
the longest runnning animated tv show is sazae san, a japanese slice-of-life show about a middle aged mother that somehow was so popular it's been running consistantly without cancellation since 1969 whereas doctor who was cancelled in 1989.
And wonder of wonders, if you take into account the background music playing at the same time, then the "-simp-" is an harmonic Major 2nd Interval and the "-sons!" is an harmonic minor 2nd interval! I know that's going to mean nothing to a lot of you, but if you are a music student trying to learn the difference between an harmonic Major 2nd and an harmonic minor 2nd, that knowledge is manna from Heaven!
0:09 I like this version of the beginning better because the music was more dreamy and vivid, and the drums makes it more satisfying and have more depth.
Damn. The show should have ended by the time the movie was released at best. This intro shows what the show could have been remembered as. And not as a show that went on for way way too long.
