One of my most favorite lines. Homer was absolutely wrecked but also motivated even more. Being a good man and hatred of sister in laws can be very motivating lol
Christy Wakeen, I think it's because of his own parents - especially his father! He wasn't the brightest person on the face of the Earth, and Homer inherited some of that himself!
They missed the best part… Patty: it came with the burial plot, but that’s not important, the important thing is homer’s dead. Selma: We’ve been saving for this since the day you got married!
It's not a Homer insult, but I think my favorite Patty and Selma moment is when Bart spends the day with them at the DMV. There's a whole lot of people waiting to be helped and the two of them are behind the counter smoking. One of them goes, "There are some days we don't let the line move at all!" Then the other one goes, "We call those weekdays!"
A lot of people hate on Patty and Selma, but they're definitely near the top as two of the funniest characters on this show. They're so diabolical, especially in that scene where Patty tells Homer, "Now you have to crawl on the floor like the dog you are."
I think part of the reason why people hate them is definitely misogyny, Mr Burns is also presented as an ugly, evil, ruthless, diabolical and generally repulsive character in the show but nobody seems to really despise him as a character, there's a double standard at play, male characters are allowed to be ugly and evil and still be seen as cool and iconic while female ones if evil are only seen as such if they're conventionally attractive.
Selma: When are you going to wake up and smell your husband, Marge? Patty: Granted, you got some kids out of him, but when the seed have been planted, you throw away the envelope.
Naw. The only character without a shadow of a doubt who deserved a spin off was Lionel Hutz. 'Lionel Hutz: Attorney at law' would be better call saul on crack.
ZhangtheGreat yes! She was feeling very down after having a tough day with the kids and Homer listened to her problems and held her hand. I always remember that moment too.
Used to think Patty and Selma were harsh when I was younger, but as an adult and someone who's watched both my sisters' lives ruined by marrying losers and idiots, I can appreciate those two's feelings about Homer. Sure, he's funny on TV, but imagine if he was real
If he were real he would be a loving caring husband, but since tv is sexist of course they’re gonna show a screw up dad and a loving hard working mother.
4:35 the irony is that Patty and Selma can never seem to find anyone and their hate for Homer always comes across as them projecting their jealousy for Marge being able to find someone. At least until the later seasons when Patty comes out
@@juliaknudstrup9191 try watching the first 4 seasons and you'll see that he is a loving father who regularly goes out of his way for his kids. For example, he takes on an extra job to pay for a horse for Lisa and throws himself off a cliff to show Bart how stupid it is to risk your life just for popularity. Would you rather marry Homer or Peter Griffin lol.
@@juliaknudstrup9191 you wouldn't understand if you only watched the newer seasons. he was much more admirable in the first eight seasons or so, when he was an oaf, but still loving and caring while striding to do better. while he was flawed, you could at least understand why people loved him so much.
@@bellabliss1860 Yeah everyone will agree Homer becomes worse for the wear in the episode "Homer's Enemy" where his transition from loveable oaf to narcissistic monster begins.
@Cherry Red Better is appropriate. Bevis and Butthead was so damn stupid, it's only bright side was being partially inspirational toward King of The Hill.
Probably my favorite isn't on this list. It's from the episode when Marge realizes her hair has gone completely gray. She talks with Patty and Selma about it, and one of them at one point says, "So, what does your husband, Vidal Baboon, think of your new look?" That was so funny and clever!
I swear to you, the first thing you're going to see when you come out of there is a man with a good job. Yeah, the doctor... Anyone have any ice for that burn?
Yet she does care like for example she asked for his advice with raising kids, and he helped her with adopting her daughter even getting her out of the orphanage in China.
She's by far the least of the two evils. Selma genuinely cares for Marge so she's more disposed to give Homer the benefit of the doubt. Patty is just a hateful lesbian.

@@LisaKoffler considering how Homer is in fact a degenerate, Patty's trying to get along well with him is a risky choice...I don't think she's ever been nastier than her twin. Yes, Patty is perhaps the "sweetest" of the two, as she has proven to be throughout the seasons
AnomaloVideo, did you read their biographies? Patty was sweet when she chose to be, which wasn't too often. It was Selma who tried to get along with Homer, and he respected her more because of that - especially after she adopted Ling.
anoygent, I think you misinterpreted what I meant. Every family has one or more than one that acts crazy. I'm quick to admit I act crazy myself, but I'm NOT stupid!
“So, you finally left Derwood!” I remember seeing this treehouse of horror episode when it came out and i was dying and it still never fails to be hilarious. It was also thr first HD episode of The Simpsons coincidentally.

It must be such a blast to voice these two! Playing nasty roles can be a lot of fun. :p Especially since Julie Kavner also voices Marge and has to be nice most of the time; it's probably great to cut loose as the "gruesome twosome." :D
I know what you mean, but still despite all this marge still love her sisters. Even if she gets mad at them for trying to pull her away from homer by talking down on him.
As a child, I just found them funny. As a adult with a sister married to an oaf...I can relate XD Oh, and don't try arguing that Homer is "a good husband" just because he tries or has one nice moment every so often, cause if you think that, well your bar for men just can't get any lower :/ Guys, he's a stereotype. Like all the characters. So please don't go thinking that's what is expected from a partner.
It a comedy show no one thinks this is how a real person should/would act lol (like most of the character have killed and done other crimes), and most of the time homer is a good person just really dumb so his plans back fire.
You know, I always believe Patty and Selma *do* care about Homer, there's a reason they always talk about him, even when he's not around or anything is there to reference him in any manner. But they can't be caught dead thinking that, especially to eachother, and Selma has had moments where she and Homer get along, more than Patty, when they're alone. They care about him, because he's still their sister's husband, but also show jealousy, Selma because she can't find love but Marge did, and Patty because other reasons.
