I know this pack is supposed to be about helping the environment and whatnot, but a part of me wishes they threw in a trait like "Loves Smog" or "Hates Hippies" or something equally as ridiculous for all those players who want to be evil anti-environmentalists.
Yeah as it is it seems like it blames people in "Industrial" areas for causing their own pollution, when those communities are usually PoC whose neighborhoods are polluted bc of being underrepresented for so many years. The idea that the environment is neighborhood centric and BECAUSE of the people in those neighborhoods is so messed up
Definitely agree on the windmills point. They should cost more like $5,000. Or maybe even make them really espensive and then you pay them off in your bills.
Does it come with real windmills? Google translate (a building with sails or vanes that turn in the wind and generate power to grind grain into flour.) Or is that the white wind-things that produces green electricity? I really wanted that one that can produce flour. But I guess it goes better with farming.
You're absolutely right Carl, there's not a lot of stuff we can do with huge sums of money (well except paying child support). Kinda makes it boring that we'd earn so much money just to pay $850 for a solar panel. Even if we get cars later, I bet they'd make it like max a $1000. But I'm counting on bills to go over the roof though.
@@ourevilone I was just thinking of how this pack will combine with tiny living to make some of the easiest rags to riches gameplay ever, which is super disappointing to me. We definitely don't need this game to be any easier.
I wish they would add a casino and a compulsive gambler trait so we can have somewhere to waste our money and for sims to have a reason to argue with their family member for losing the family fortune! I also wish the whole house would burn to the ground and you take the insurance money to build new.
Totally agree about the cost of windmills and solar panels. It’s like they want people to be able to create a new Sim and instantly explore the new eco gameplay (of which there is basically none - don’t get me started on how much this pack angers me). I understand why they want to do that but IRL people don’t generally live 100% ‘eco’ lifestyles unless they either have a lot of money to throw at expensive things like solar panels or are willing to sacrifice worldly possessions to live completely off the grid. So it’s unrealistic.
Besides building which is essentially the core feature it seems, the only eco gameplay your sims have is convincing people and voting so the lot changes. It’s definitely a pack geared towards RU-vidrs imo. One thing I found really, really weird about the free updates is the inventory system. I remember that about a year after the game came out people were complaining and asking for a fix ‘cause it really was a pain when you had a sim with lots of items... and it took them this long to implement it :/ sometimes I think the sims team is either real tiny or EA be really pulling the strings.
I don't like how seemingly easy it is to change the environment. I saw part 1 of a Let's Play and a few days of dumpster diving and a community vote turned the neighborhood from industrial to neutral. Available votes are generated by saying "Hi" to a lot of people... No relationships required. The vote wasn't even concerning the free lot! 😅
Thank you so much for making this video because I personally didn't want to watch the entire stream and just wanted a simplified version of it only covering what's important.
Meaningful interactions between sims is what I miss in TS4. Sure there are many "dicussion topics", but what's the real difference between "talk about interests" and "complain about weather", for example? It's basically just a different text label for the same talking animation with maybe slightly different relationship boosts, but it doesn't FEEL different. In TS2, talking about interests actually increased a sim's interest and they would start talking about that interest independently (with different animations for different interests). And don't get me started on interactions like games and dancing! Slow-dancing, dancing together face-to-face, games like "red hands" and "mary mack", playing cops and robbers... holding hands across the table, cuddling in bed... you know, actual interactions between sims! In TS4 every sim feels isolated from the others, no matter how much they interact, because their interactions are so independent. It's good for multitasking, but it makes them feel so separate, like they're not really interacting at all, just every sim playing its own little animation, trapped in their own little bubble. What I want is holding hands while walking, slow dancing, adults helping toddlers learning to walk, children playing active games outside! What we get is... dumpster woohoo.
I'm still perplexed as to why my sims can't kiss the person they're dating goodbye when they could in previous games. You just ask them to leave as if they mean nothing to you. Even the animation is like gtfo.
Shinojeru shi0nch what the heck is this guy going to do if you keep telling this idea of yours to be added to the game, just go to the sims offical page in twitter or one of the gurus profile and start complaining and whining there and maybe they will add this like you said because here no one will listen to you.
@@thug-21 I hate the only option is "ask to leave"- that was only the unfriendly way to say goodbye before. It was great in the other games seeing the gradual difference between goodbye between acquaintances, between friends where they'd hug and between romantic interests where they'd kiss.
I enjoy your summaries so much. They are funny, to the point and relateable. Thank you for having kind of more "analytical" view. It is very refreshing and enjoyable. I don't need another "ooohh I really love that hair"-simmer.
why did I read that last part in a certain person’s voice? ya we all know. But in general I think there’s space for all and I enjoy Carl’s approach a lot.
@@melz6625 I totally agree. I like to watch those simmers too. But they are sometimes just too similar to one another so it can get boring. That's why I'am actually happy to have found this channel. The videos are so good in a different way and so well thought through. Who else can't understand why he hasn't Millions of subs yet :)
@@ElenMira While Carl's website, carls-sims-4-guide.com, has been a great resource since Sims 3, Carl's YT channel is only a year old. Give it time. Many people who consult his site frequently for game info, aren't aware yet that he has a channel here. :)
I like this pack better than I did, but it's missing the negative aspects. This would have been a perfect pack for the Burglar to come back. Or some kind of sinister side story.
I know the gameplay is right up my alley! If only it wasn't so one-sided. 😕 Also after the way EA has neglected the sims community Im not giving them any (more) if my money either.
@@RosheenQuynh It's sup[posed to be a deprived post-industrial neighbourhood. At least before the crunchies & hipsters move in and price everyone out their homes. It would have an increased crime rate.
@@peppermintbutler8205 I knew something was missing! I remember looking at my tasks for an occupation I hadn't used in awhile and wondered what mood I needed to be in again. I thought I had imagined it. They really don't need to make this game any easier. 😅
Man I feel like this is the next big thing they need to fix! It would def be a lot of work on their end but would change the game so much for the better!
Yeah, this has been a common complaint since the beginning of Sims 4's launch; that it was way too easy to amass huge sums of money way too quickly. They really need to make it more challenging to obtain a large home with high-end items, at the moment it doesn't feel very rewarding compared to previous titles.
This is still on a gameplay pack level, not expansion pack level. Theory: they made the trailers shallow on purpose so they could show more things on livestream so people think they actually get something that‘s worth 40 $. Thank you for the overview and your honesty, Carl, it‘s much appreciated!
It's not tho we have never gotten a game pack with this much depth and options. I feel like they tried with this pack and I'm actually very excited to buy it cuz I literally only play off the grid
Carl: "I won't linger here because I wear T-shirts and polos, and nothing else..." Um, you said nothing about pants! 😂 On another note, THANK YOU for mentioning that there is a person that wants to make the neighborhood more industrial. This is absolutely my first time hearing of it (since I didn't watch the livestream) even though I have watched other Game Changers' videos.
This expack would just make me want to do it out of spite for the hipster bullcrap overload in this and past expansions, and how...stereotypically and one-sided...all this is presented. Some of the features look really nice, but I just don't want a smug mechanic in my Sims game.
@@aturchomicz821 definitely not for me. From what I understand there won't be trash in the streets, there won't be crappy versions of non-playable buildings in the set dressing, it sounds like it's literally just smog and coughing sims. I was actually considering spending $40 on this if they had implemented the trash and different buildings in the rest of the main worlds, but I'm definitely not spending $40 just for the smog and hacking sims. The gameplay in the new world doesn't interest me. I'm only interested in the CAS, build items, and what I thought was going to be a small reworking of the other worlds to give them a totally run down and trash filled look. So, I'm back to waiting for a sale.
Honestly tho, the best part about your channel is that you don't do what other annoying youtubers do and say "don't forget to like and subscribe" before you even say anything of substance in the video. As long as you stay humble, honest and unfiltered like this, I'll keep coming back to your videos for a long time
It kind of sucks the expansion packs are almost always limited to one particular world. In The Sims 3, most big changes like ocean swimming, supernatural creatures or house boats weren't limited to one world. You could use them / add them to any world. It makes expansions feel very stand alone and not as if you were added more and more layers to the game.
jfb 7920 but not the community upgrades. Besides once you do something once in the sims 4 , like the upgrades or makers career, players would never revisit it since its the same thing every time. In the other games it was fun to add in other features into a previous world or pack because it was new and exciting. The only sims 4 pack that has this effect is seasons.
The purple penguin I wish the smog was thicker and had a stronger effect. I would love it to have a proper haze effect that makes the sims sick and actually makes it worth it to want to live in an eco-friendly town. Regarding the idea of trash and not being everywhere, there is a landfill lot trait that can be placed on various lots to get a trashy neigbourhood in other towns
I think the 'fizzy juice' is kombucha :D. I make kombucha with fruit I grow in my garden in real life and it's actually very tasty! Now, that being said... Even though I am the person this expansion portrays (I take stuff from the dumpster to restore and repurpose it, I grow food, craft, make kombucha, am an activist, live an eco lifestyle in general) I don't really see the appeal in this one BECAUSE I do that in real life. I want TS4 to give me experiences I cannot have in real life. Doing the same stuff I do IRL seems boring to me. I guess that's why I love all the fantasy stuff.
😭😭😭😭😭 I want garbage to appear in the old basegame desert world. And I want candle making to be a separate skill. I want us to be able to combine different ingredients in the fizzy maker. I want to create my own NAP. I want to swim in that marble space water. I want a compost bin. I want to be able to get real parts from recycled stuff, like wood or metal or fabric, together with the bits and pieces, and that they are needed as ingredients to the stuff we can fabricate. I want to be able to fabricate stuff with bits and pieces (and mentioned ingredients) on the children creativity table, like smaller things kids can create. I want the new freelancer career to also include flower arrangements, knitting. I want a food freelancer career too, like the same but with different meals. 😁 I want it to cost money to travel to other cities/worlds.
Yes. This is the sort of gameplay I'd pay $40 for. This would make it an expansion pack in my eyes. I started to forget why I was so disappointed in this pack after watching so many other RU-vidrs talk about how much they love the new hairs, or the build items. And yeah, that's fine, I think they look great, too! But they either get the packs for free, or it's a business expense for them. I have my own business expenses that don't involve buying sims games. I have my own family to take care of, and spending $40 for this pack as is just seems out of the question for me. You totally put this into perspective! There's so much missed potential here!! I'm sorry, I'll stop ranting now! 😬 I just miss the love I used to have for this game 😔
Give the modders time after the expansion comes out. I'm sure some of these things will exist. How sad is it that the modding community is so necessary to make an expensive game like this play the way it should? Also I've had candle making in my game for years. Thanks icemunmun. :)
@@HughLlewellyn I always play modded game so I know the possibilities, I have even created some small mods myself, but I think it's sad that it's not there in the game from the beginning.
I might be in the minority here but I wasn’t too thrilled about the overhaul of gardening with seasons. I liked the grind of gardening. I feel like they made it too easy and now it looks like they did it again with this pack. I have a garden and because it’s so easy to maintain, I actually forget I have it there.
I also dislike the overhaul of the gardening skill with Seasons. I loved the gardening skill until that happened. Every Sim I played had a garden, now I just don't bother and buy what I need form the CL vendors or PC seed packets.
Playalot that’s exactly how I was. They took the joy out of finally getting that spliced plant. Now you can just get the actual seed from a festival, through the phone or rare seed packets. They also don’t produce 10 per harvest any more. I believe it’s down to 5 now. What I did like was the new evolve aspect but that’s about it.
@@LeticiaSPandaMcfly6 Some plants only give one (rare) and others 4 etc so yes, I dislike the lower rate of harvestables on each plant too. Disabling Seasons helps a little but it really was the pre-patch update that killed it for me. tbh I don't think I've spliced a plant since the update either. So it's a definite 'no' from me! :) It some ways I like that you can evolve a plant from a distance but that also feels a bit too easy as well.
Playalot I’m with you 100% on everything you mentioned! It was a bit overkill. Hopefully they make stuff more challenging in the game for however long they decide to keep going with this iteration.
My biggest issue with gardening is before it was based on actual time passing on the lot you were at. Now it’s 5 AM always, so if you play a lot but leave it to play another at 4, you never get the harvestables from all of that gameplay. Visiting a community lot at 5 AM? Nothing to harvest until the next day. I hate that. Never ever getting 10 also is dumb. I wish the gardening hadn’t been messed with in a patch. The meat wall cracks me though. And I might be as excited as Carl for the inventory sort.
I really love what they are doing with this pack/patch, but theres some things that i feel need to be said As much as this free patch and pack is definitely better than we initially believed, it still does not address core issues in the game. Like deep personalites of sims and day to day activities that bolster who are sims are and how they interact with their household. The patch is a good addition, and the pack adds a lot to the communities but revamps to the sims personalities, hobbies, love loves is very much needed. A generations pack is desperately needed as well. Good on Maxis, but we have some ways to go.
@@namaste_charlei weve already known that. The studio was shut down after they finished most of the sims 3 and the creator left. Ea reinstated the studio to make the rest of the sims 3 dlc and work on the sims 4 Its not the same people
@@christopherdelacruz9728 I iterate this because there are a lot of people that still think Maxis exists. Many will deny that Maxis is gone. The spirit of it definitely is no longer there.
You are a legend in the sims community along side a few others you are the person I normally get all my sims info from so yeah you deserve everything good that has/will happen.
Thank you for that summary! I have to say the live stream made me understand why it’s an expansion and not a game pack. This whole idea is not my cup of tea (which is totally fine) but I am happy that this can be integrated in day to day gameplay - if you like playing environmentally conscious. It still feels like this pack “fixes” things that are already in game, but I guess it’s better to have off-the-Grid being fixed in a pack than not at all?! I might pick this up when it’s on sale for the new world and the new hobbies.
I think the updates are great and it looks like this expansion pack has more to offer than what we could see in the trailer. But...6 years until we got some of these updates?
Exactly my gripe about it. These changes coming in the patch should have been included in base game from day 1! And here we all are, losing our minds with excitement that EA has granted us these great boons. It's like we all have Stockholm Syndrome and we're fawning over EA tossing us tiny scraps. It makes me feel so conflicted. I'm like Grrrrrrr... OH THANK YOU MASTER... but grrrrrrr.
Does it make me a bad person if I don’t want to care about the environment in a game? *conflicted face*. Ps! I think that juice is supposed to be kombucha 🤮
I don't think so. I already try to care about the environment and all in real life; I really don't want to play it in a game, too. It's too overwhelming when I have to deal with it in a game I'm playing to escape that whole thing for a while.
BooDotBoo you can turn it off, or not buy the pack.... I look forward to playing passively as well as actively. Like I wanna just play my sims like normal and see how it affects the world. I appreciate that gameplay affects the world around you
16:01 poor Thomas J indeed. Thanks for that My Girl reference, i appreciate it as much as I do your sims content. Great and wonderfully witty breakdown of the livestream, Carl. Thank you
SOOOOOO... Is there anything to do in this pack? It seems most of the features are just aesthetic and like adding a different coat of paint to the same ol' game...
The first pack I know for sure I'm not gonna buy. Environmentalism is a good thing - irl. In a game? No thanks, I play for the things I can't do irl, like having alien babies or whatever. We coulda worked as the Grim Reaper, and this is what we got? Insane.
Yeah totaly. If they want to do more realistic things, then this is also not the way to do it. I feel like they don't know what environmentalism entails at all.
From what I've seen in the livestream and other Game Changer videos, this pack just looks like a building pack to me... :/ Like it feels like this pack is aimed more towards the builders in this community tbh.. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.. There's a lot of cool Build&Buy items in this pack. I'm sure lot of people can use to these items to build all types of lots. However, for someone like me who isn't a builder, I'm personally having a hard time finding the value in this pack.. I don't see a lot of gameplay and stuff to do in live mode, you know? And the items that do offer some gameplay, I just see myself using them once and then never touching them again. It would've been great if they added more skills and traits (especially negative ones) in this pack or something idk.. I want to love this pack, I really do, but the more things I see from this pack the more I don't want it. Like I'm more excited for the patch update than I am for this pack.. :( Anyways, thank you for the video! I like how you made even a summary video entertaining to watch!
This pack still feels like they’re wanting people to pay for a PSA on saving the environment. Like I don’t want to buy a pack where the main concept is Sims asking if I want to hear about the environment.
Yeah, I'm generally environmentally friendly in real life and I'm turned off by the fact they're only letting you play as a hippie. They could have at least done a "polluter" trait that hated eco friendly stuff instead of the samey Recyler and Eco Friendly traits (I heard 4 traits in another summary)
I'm definitely gonna wait for a sale on this one. There's certainly some gameplay stuff that interests me, but there's also a lot of stuff I don't really care about. And I'm also someone who spends a lot of time and effort in both cas and build/buy, and most of the items coming with this pack aren't things I see myself using. Much as I'd love those piercings right away... I'll restrain myself until it's at least 50% off
I know right! My family is paying $7000 for a 2 bedroom house. It's not all bad because the mother is an author and makes great money. But the bill system as it is doesn't make any sense (to me)
Lady Yana Number 1 For now it goes by how espensive items you have in the house. I got tired of living in my own sim house and lived in the city where rent stay the same and does not go up
Thanks Carl! I love your videos , tutorials, ect.! I had to Edit when you started talking about the meat! I am literally crying because I'm laughing so hard! ✌❤🙏
Not having trashy neighborhoods other than the expansion neighborhood is a really big letdown. I got super excited thinking that there were going to be noticeable visual changes in the other neighborhoods. Especially because the expansions that I tend to buy are expansions that have gameplay changes that affect the game as a whole rather than something more specific. Now, I'm not really sure if I want to pick this up right away or just wait. Thanks for this video though, Carl. Very informative!
I love your videos. You say what I think but no one else says. And you make me laugh. I'm not interested in the gameplay aspect of this pack. I find it boring. But I thought I might buy it for the CAS and Build items. Nope. All the furniture and clothes are from the "rags" part of rags to riches. They could have thrown in a few nice items for those who aren't into the rags lifestyle. Not enough difference between the new traits and aspirations either. This expansion will be the first one I've passed on since I started playing Sims.
I never know when the live stream is and probably watch the VOD later. I look forward to the videos like this (that you make) that cut down the fluff and give the info we (or I) want
Combining SimCity with The Sims is what it sounds like to me. I love this idea. I look forward to you playing one of your vampires a week after release
Tbh as someone who doesn't care about the environment all that much, I am looking forward to pretending I do in a game lol. This pack is definitely a hit or miss but for those that are into it this pack will be a lot of fun.
rewatching this for a little challenge i'm doing & i do love your little jabs. "which i am calling a nap...which is what i wanted to take when he went into CAS" LOL
The Hydroponic rack reminds me of the Sims 2's Slacker Career reward. It was weird back then, because even if it was a reward for the SLACKER career, the plants in it would still die of neglect.
I’m really glad they didn’t add nectar making in this pack like I heard some people say they were doing. I’m not sure if we’ll even get nectar making back since we got this fizzy drink stuff, but I’d really like to see it return in a pack that makes sense for it to be in. Hopefully we can get another world like champs les sims in a game pack or something with nectar making.
Thank you for making this video. It really helped to put what they are offering into perspective. I'm kind of glad the other neighborhoods won't be trashy! And I love the "meat" wall.
Well I am a console player I am NOT a fan of that new feature. I've learned my controls, they are not that hard. I don't need them poping up the control reminders like I'm some noob. It's insulting really. If you need the controls you pressed down on the left joy stick the controls are there. This really upsets me. I don't need more crap popping up on my screen. Who asked for this?!
My complaint is unwarranted. You can turn that crap off in the game menu options. HUZZAH for the patch! Also if you're on console look for a few BIG sales, I got Get Together for 50%!
I'm a console player as well! Tomorrow is actually my birthday, and I'm quite disappointed that THIS is the pack that comes out on my birthday lol but I'll definitely check out the sales and maybe just get a different one(or two, depending on the sale lol) as my bday present to myself lol
if fizzy lifting drinks isn't an easter egg i'll be surprised. hopefully the power and water bills will be much higher than we expect, after all if we do gardening, washing and science stuff in our houses for example thats alot of power and water! throw in pet baths, hot day sprinklers, saunas and winterfest (christmas) light decorations those bills will hopefully shoot up... hopefully. though the materials thing does sound pretty interesting, i wonder if they will have an impact on energy usage along side seasons? i mean they'v hinted at alot of cross pack interactions what with degrees influencing stuff, power, skill objects like the rocket and such all doing environmental stuff so defo willing to dip toes into this one and see how deep it goes
I completely agree with you about the money situation because I know on my game without cheating all my money is 999,999 and unfortunatelythere is nothing that I need to spend the money on that I cannot make at least for anyting buildable and I have so many satisfaction points again without cheatingI could probably have an orchard of money treats if I wanted them but I would give all the money just for a way to defend against vampires without having to have a cheat or to be in spell caster
The absolute best thing about the first time I watched this video was right in the middle of your delighted announcement of the inventory changes, you said "I am genuinely excited about this..." and it cut to a bra ad with a closeup shot of a woman's chest. 🤣
I was just thinkin that too (you make the best summaries) & also had thought the death by bees/my girl comment 😂🤣 you had me laughin really hard there lol Also wanted to ask if you had or would do a video on the bug box/insect farm like you did for bees (literally cant find a single one on youtube) please & thank you 😊
I like that the candle making isn’t a separate skill. We already have an awesome mod for that. And I’m hoping it gets updated to work seamlessly together with the pack.
I think it’s fair that you can’t just fully trash other worlds. That would probably involve A LOT of work and basically rebuilding every other world.... I do like this pack. It still feels like a true expansion and I like the extra challenge to take care of the environment on top of regular gameplay...
