Hello and thank you for another lovely video celebrating beautiful books. These are such sweet and colourful editions of these classic stories. My copies of Jane Austen are a setl from the Folio Society which I am reluctant to haul around and read for fear of damaging them. Something like these above I can see wearing out as they are read and reread making them beloved copies. I'm attracted by the bright colours, the lovely patterns and the delightful images of the characters ... and the authors and the illustrator herself. Also, French flaps are fun. Cheers!

Yes, I'm always torn with paperbacks - they are so much more affordable and portable, but having been a collector for a long time I know that they have pretty limited shelf life (anything over 30 years old pretty much falls apart if you try to read it). But I could definitely do a selection of beautiful paperbacks - any suggestions for the focus - children's books? classics? fantasy (vintage fantasy cover designs are incredible)?

And thank you for that perspective (about book collecting) you’re right paperbacks are not built for durability; I’ve just always loved paperbacks for the reasons you mentioned. I’ve been binging your videos (I just recently found your channel).

Hi, could you give some info on how the paper quality is? It looks a bit like a mediocre quality that would get foxing very easily

Yes, you are right. These books have delightful cover designs, but internally they are pretty standard cheap paperbacks. You can avoid/minimize any foxing if you keep your library cool and dry, but for most paperbacks in my library I just accept they are usually relatively fragile. Penguin rarely use acid-free paper in their collections, so I’d expect some page tanning, although probably not in the first 10 years or so.

It's the complete first book 'Anne of Green Gables', but it doesn't include the sequels (Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island, etc - there are 6 books in total). The one to be careful of is Little Women because this one is the UK edition, which is only half of the US edition (the UK usually follows the original publication style of two volumes, 'Little Women' and 'Good Wives', while the US typically puts them into a single volume). Oh excellent question - I can't believe I forgot to mention that! It's the Eileen Hall translation of 1956 - this is the most common translation that the majority of kids have probably grown up with (and - shockingly - one of the most recent!). It also has a limited number of internal line drawings by Cecil Leslie.

Yes, they are unabridged. Although Little Women is the British version, not the American version (in Britain, Little Women and Good Wives are published in two volumes, while in the US they are typically bound together in an omnibus edition called Little Women - it’s a little confusing!).
