tbf the thing about it, is that we see the morality in recent actions and i have been noticing it mroe and more, like we say never forget about holocaust, the 9\11 and alot of other things, but then people read about let's say the mongols, (early) russians, persians, roman genocides/attrocities and most people (including me) "oh, peopel were ruthless back then" and move on, it's quite funny how aggitated people can get over the history over the last 100 years but then have no strong feelings about the history that precided it, quite an interesting phenomenon imo
@@pedronabais1456 According to Dan Carlin his Chinese-American history professor got realy triggerd by his admiration for mongol tactics. To him the Mongols were still the people who genocided his ancestors.
@ImmersedInHistory I mean the Han Chinese have a long history of beating the crap out of the cultural groups around them. The current status in Nepal, and the western provinces with the Uighars isn't new.
I love how there's more comments worried about the state of the comments than actual contentious comments at all. The sign of a really solid community, hats off
I wish there were less of the "oh boy this comment section is gonna be rough huh" style comments. They don't add anything to the conversation, and it's like a third of the first "page fold" of comments I see.
Talking about any subject with two passionate groups on either side rarely ends well. I feel like this issue is exacerbated by people in the outside without full knowledge of what’s going on.
People don't seem to understand that this war is a culmination of 70 odd years of cyclical violence, it wasn't unprovoked as many on the right claim and, attacks by Hamas on civilians can't just be blown off with a glib "what did you expect?" as many idiots on the left are saying
That's why you instead take a look at historical facts and make an appropriate judgement - in this case, of a settler-colonial project that ethnically cleansed a people from a territory, stole their land, later occupied them, and most recently imposed an apartheid regime on them, with all the expected resulting outcome of bouts of violence from all sides.
@@bungalowjuice7225it's almost a copy paste at this point. Most of them talk about Israelis stealing land completely ignoring the fact that those lands were taken following a major conflict like the 1948 War and 6 Day War.
The way you present history is so refreshing. You stick right to the facts. The verifiable dates of events, and are very clear when you give non-verifiable opinions, but back those opinions up with convincing evidence.
Your intro is the most sober and rational take I've seen in the last 6 days of discussing the Israeli-Arab 'issue'. The brutal, bloody reality is what Hamas did was beyond reprehensible, and we are now seeing Israel abandon all forms of restraint. I will not be surprised if after several years have passed, Israel as a collective looks back at the likely biblical, bloody outcome of what's going to happen to Gaza with a mixture of resignation and revulsion at what they ended up doing in order to deal with the "Hamas problem." We're already entering day 7, and it is not looking pretty.
What really is interesting albeit shocking is comparing it to what you see in Ukraine. Artillery, MLRS, and mortar strikes have nothing on minute to minute JDAM strikes. Terrifying what air superiority holds for powers.
1:27 there are very few Palestinian Christians and most are clustered in the Christian quarter of Jerusalem even then the Muslim Palestinians don't treat them well
Wired fact this war is one of the reasons for the A10's main gun. It was said the Israeli fighters destroyed tanks eith their 30mm cannons by hitting the roofs of tanks.
Hey, i really appreciate you going out of your way to make this video Its very refreshing to listen someone who doesn't see history as mere black and white events talk about it Even if it makes me feel uneasy at times
The sad reality is that 99.5% of people who are ultra obsessed about the wars in the area don't actually understand anything about them and are just picking sides like its a football game.
@@HistoryofEverythingChannel Keep doing what you are doing: sticking to facts, not using emotional language and calmly explaining what is your opinion and what is fact and why you think this. This was a respectful video, good work mate. I love the videos taking the piss out of russian/soviet military , but I understand given what's happening why you make more sombre videos like this. 👍
Excellent synopsis and a quality presentation as I've come to expect from this channel. Bonus points awarded for finding yet another instance of the Russian Navy sucking!
The algorithm randomly pushed your content for me to find. Probably because i watch lazerpig, perun, and animarchy. Well im very glad it did. Looking forward to seeing more. 🤙🏻
It's crazy how similar the situation is to that of Kosovo, particularly right now. The Ottoman Empire screws everything and everyone up, different groups of people fight over land in the aftermath after the Ottomans, the groups do terrible stuff to each other in turn over and over, one group takes it WAYYYYY too far and then gets bombed. One notable recurring theme is that revenge through atrocities and genocide does not get you sympathy, it usually just gets you more bombs. You can't say your enemies are monsters if you become an even worse monster yourself
@@moritamikamikara3879 If the Ottomans didn't exist and ruin everyone's lives and join the side of Germany, the British wouldn't have to get involved. And the Britain excuse doesn't work for the Balkans either. Call a spade a spade, the Ottoman Empire was one of the most evil and suffering-inducing empires in history. Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated because of strife in the Balkans that was started by the Ottomans, which is still impacting us to this day with the wars in Ukraine and Israel.
Alright, I’m back from being hit by a bus and ready to enjoy another comment sec- I mean video. Either way it’s nice to see you branching out and I wish you all the best with it.
What you said about doing it wrong, if you never felt sick when reading (learning) about history is a really good statement. Sometimes it's quiet hard to not get fecking depressiv while studding, good thing the russian navy was a thing. That lightened the mood a bit. (Not sure how much russian navy is left, when you read this, probably not much, at this rate)
@@HistoryofEverythingChannel looking forward to it. Quick question, if you don't mind. While this might qualify as a spoiler of sorts and while you might want to wait until your video on this particular topic comes out, who do you believe won the Yom Kippur War in a strictly military sense?
@@HistoryofEverythingChannel interesting. I'm glad to see that we're in agreement in regards to this particular sentiment. I've honestly never understood why anyone could actually believe that Egypt (everybody is in agreement that Syria definitely lost the war, after all) "won" the Yom Kippur War. Anyways, I look forward to your upcoming videos on the ongoing Arab-Israeli Conflict. Have a great day!
Whether you like Israel or not, it's kinda wild to think about how a lot of those men who fought in the 6-day war had survived the holocaust and moved, bought land, and created new lives for themselves just to have to defend their rights to exist again and again
No matter what side you’re on in history… being on the receiving end sucks. And it’s easy to interpret what may have been a complex and violent accident/operation as specifically personal
That first part of the disclaimer is probably something we won’t even know the true extent of for maybe a generation. May there be mercy for the civilians of Israel and Palestine.
Those verses at the beginning of the video are a cool addition. Kinda cool to provide the religious perspective of the opposing sides. Love the channel too
Honestly the way I prefer to look at this conflict is just from the pure military perspective. Ignoring all the absurdly ugly politics much like when looking at the Invasion of Iraq, the six day war was a military master stroke on seizing and holding aerial supremacy. The sheer efficiency of the IDF ground crews is quite frankly so shocking it deserves to be studied in the same way the US military studied the logistics of the Ringling brothers
Would you say that the environment of the area being mostly desert as opposed to more forested contributed to contol of the air being so pivotal and effective for the Israelites once the enemy air forces were defeated? It seems like ground forces had a much harder time.
It is in no way prophetic. It's words that can be interpreted broadly and are not that affected by age like stating a definitv time, or naming the enemies. The lack of specificity makes it able to put of non fitting times to "it just didn't happen jet". Also it basically did already happen with the crusades so i applying it today is redundant and shows the lack of specificity.
@@Alex_Vir 40 years after those words were spoken the city was besieged, destroyed, and the a hundreds of year old temple was pulled apart brick by brick (to get the melted gold as described by Josephus ).. Matthew 24 "Do you see all these things?" he asked. "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.".
This must be a wonderous time to be an australian. HoE, Perun, the hollow men, Randy Feltface, Clark and Dawe until recently... Austrialian scholars are deeply involved with quantum physics... the scholarship and comedy coming out of Oz is simply first rate.
I will say that it is impressive that Israel managed to win this war 1:3. It was also probably the best time for Palestinians to have asked for sovereignty, and accept the land that Israel would have given up. Which most likely would have been the Gaza Strip and all of the West Bank except Jerusalem. This war is quite interesting, and it continued on a small scale until 1970 along the Israel- Egypt border.
I'm new here, but I'll be back. Completely unbiased view of an extremely partisan topic. And kudos to the rest of you guys in the comments that are so chill. Much love, all of you
>retreated straight into the enemy front lines Now, I've heard of retreating being called, "advancing in the opposite direction", but this is something else entirely.
Well you said it wasn't going to end well. That is was going to be biblical. Sadly, you were spot on, as current events will testify. What an epically sad story.
I really like your videos, but with your voice sorta trailing off often, they're hard to understand without me needing to raise the volume a scary amount. I don't think it's a mic issue though. Could you maybe speak up with a more assertive tone of voice? I hope I'm not coming off insulting.
The Six day war and the Yom Kippur war that followed it are the two main wars that led me to believe that Russian made equipment of war is not a good as the Russians hyped it up to be. But I never said it as much until after learning about Russia's first year of full scale invasion of Ukraine because it's always unwise to underestimate people that are determined to go to war with the country you live in someday. But now I LOL.
Listen with headphones before you upload to see if there is music that completely pops your ear drums it’s mixed so out of balance with the narration. 🙏
Jordan got the short end of the stick getting hustled by Egypt and Syria, probably even the English officers in the Jordian Legion, still, they knew better.
“The line between good and evil runs through every human heart”. That is not to say that we cannot judge where the justice lies in a conflict, or that *on balance* the actions and intents of the participants do not matter. Only that the people involved are human. I do not have to argue that every participant in a cause is a saint in order to support the cause…. and more than I have to argue that ever supporter is evil in order to reject it.
As an American...the idea that any group has any "blood right" to any plot of land anywhere on earth is anathema to the foundations of my culture. Its shocking that so many American seem to miss this point.
@@Ubique2927 Having lived long enough after it to see the evils of Manifest Destiny and reevaluate Greeley et. al. in the light of the founding documents, yes, blood right is incompatible with who America says it is.
" that no weird cult considers to be holy." Considering the majority of the world is religious in some form or another, it seems like the 'weird' one here is you mate.
@@internetzenmaster8952Maybe. I'm fine with being weird as long as the place I live doesn't get bombed to smithereens in the name of some magic sky wizard.
One issue i have in this current conflict that i hope i share with others is that my opinion don't fit the boxes. I researched this stuff and continually do, and as such I find both majority/loud groups to be flatly wrong, and that my Take on the situation as a result would likely insult 2 groups that never researched more than the feed told them. I find the lack of critical thinking in this conflict to be alarming as no matter what "group" you associate yourself with you have been fed bullshit by your more vocal people. I often feel like everyone in the world is stupid or insane and I am left to watch the world burn down for the most stupidest of reason...no I ain't advocating conspiracy theory,s I am saying I am sick of pro participation trash pushing things like "Hamas never did X" when Hamas has absolutely wanted pepole to know they did that or "Isreal is not doing Y" without ever checked if that claim is true or the context or anything. While of course sitting at home doing nothing or sending cash to a black hole they hope leads to the right place.
You did a fantastic job, in regards to this conflict being a amateur historian I knew there was gonna be religious bloodshed Many of my friends blindly are choosing sides and making reasons but no matter how you cut it there’s clear technological differences and numbers, and this land has been the most highly contested piece of real estate ever. Both sides are going to do some bad stuff in my book…
