Another clue about Malcolm is that he never changed clothes. He is always in the same outfit. When he is in the sweatshirt, it is the sweatshirt that he puts on at the very beginning of the movie. He never takes his trench coat off because it was covering up his bloodstained shirt. Also, when he wants to be somewhere, he is just there. The basement door was blocked off but he wanted to be in the basement, so he was just there. He needed to find Cole to talk to him about the recording, so he just shows up, in all of Philadelphia, at the exact location that Cole was at.
great movie - top 5 of all time - and not because of the "twist ending", but because of the story-themes. check out: Whale Rider, Spitefire Grill, Smoke Signals, 12 yrs a Slave, Zodiac, Snowtown, The Hunt (Danish one with eng, subtitles)............... for "new" stuff, older - 70's stuff, The Deer Hunter, Magic, Day of the Jackel, The Lathe of Heaven, Rollerball, 10 Rillington Place, Soylent Green, Breaker Morant, Gallipoli, Ghandi, etc........... as for older - you have my 30 or list for BW 40/50's stuff. 2-cents.
I agree. I have a hard time seeing new posts claiming "First viewing" of this, Alien, The Thing, Hereditary etc... It's so unreal that people are that out of touch.
I am soon to be 73 years old and now the result I have seen a lot of movies in my life. Having said that, I consider the scene in the car where Cole reveals his secret, to be one of the most extraordinary pieces of acting I have ever seen.
@@thomasmartin8227 Same. I always like to say... The Sixth Sense isn't very scary. The scariest thing about The Sixth Sense is how hard it makes me cry.
If I remember right, Bruce Willis won an award for the movie, but once he was on stage, he was very regretful in accepting it, because of Haley Joel Osment's performance, and felt that he deserved the award instead of himself, and said so to the crowd.
And Moonlighting is now on HULU!!!! :D He was also in a cheesy comedy called Hudson Hawk. It's a funny, goofy movie that's enjoyable if you don't try to take it seriously.
I'm impressed that you picked up on Bruce Willis' character being dead as early as you did. Most of us in the theater didn't know until the reveal near the end. There was a collective reaction when he saw the ring on the floor was his. We were all shocked and surprised and then almost everyone said, "Oh... that explains. the..." Excellent movie and an excellent review.
The movie IS basically "babies first plot twist". Bruce getting shot is the "Chekhov's gun" of the movie. It's way too overt and out the gate to not have meaning later on especially since the whole damned movie is about a kid who sees dead people.
As far as Haley Joel Osment movies go, Secondhand Lions is one of the most underrated movies I have ever seen. So damn good! And he stands toe to toe to the superb acting talents of Robert Duval and Michael Caine
"Unbreakable" and "Split" are two stand-alone movies that are tied together in a third movie, "Glass." So it's sort of a trilogy. A lot of people don't like "Glass," but I thought it was a fine finish to the story. The three movies together form M. Night Shyamalan's unique take on the superhero genre.
@@GeorgeTropicana LOL the only reason to see The Happening is to laugh at how bad it is. I still remember seeing the lion scene first on youtube and commenting on how unintentionally hilarious it was. Unbreakable is for sure a good movie but i do find it a bit slow and Bruce Willis is pretty much just playing the same character in the way he acts, with the soft speaking and all. This is nitpicking though, Unbreakable is great.
That was amazing how you pieced together the part about the mother poisoning the girl. I've seen around 10 videos of people seeing this movie for the first time and you're the only one who figured it out before watching the girl's video.
You've correctly guessed Munchausen by proxy AND figured out the twist ending ahead of the reveal?! You're intellectually in another league as far as movie reactions are concerned. Sheesh...
@@VerowakReacts Be that as it may, that doesn't explain how you've deduced the twist ahead of the curve; most people have their minds blown when the wedding ring rolls. I just get the impression you're somewhat more perceptive and clever than average. If I stumble upon some other interesting reaction of yours, I'm perfectly willing to bolster or weaken that impression xP.
@@leannaugustus193Not necessarily. I’ve known people who are crazy insightful and catch on to almost everything when they watch movies. Some people have more of an analytical mind when they watch things while others just go with the flow and don’t overthink it.
@vestin² I concur 100% I love how brilliant this film is on so many levels, so seeing the notification that she was taking it on made me instantly happy. Conversely, when I see that a great film like ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST is being reacted to by some shmoo, I get a sense of dread. Nice comment, and very nicely done Verowak.
Cole talking in the beginning about how he's going to see Malcolm again, then at the end how he's not going to see him again. We're supposed to think that's 'see' in the sense of seeing a psychiatrist, but in retrospect it's 'seeing' a ghost. Malcolm's unfinished business and devotion to helping kids drew him to haunt the Vincent-like Cole, and Cole's gift allowed him to see that there was something different about this one. Like the others, he still didn't know he was dead, but he wanted to help and talk, instead of hurting Cole. Once he warmed to the idea of having an adult, a psychiatrist, even a dead one, wanting to help, Cole wanted that help, to the point of pinning his hopes on Malcolm and crying when Malcolm talked about leaving. Even though Cole knew what he was the whole time. This attitude toward Malcolm prepared him for Malcolm's outlandish suggestion regarding the other ghosts. And that changed his life. Returning the favor, Cole worked within Malcolm's delusion that he was still alive and gave him the way to talk across the void to his wife, who didn't have the 6th sense and couldn't hear him like Cole could. And that healed Malcolm, allowing him in the end to finally move on, both items of his unfinished business completed: Helping Cole, and telling his wife she was never second.
I think the scene in the car where Cole tells his mom about seeing dead people has a few very specific elements in it: 1. When he first tells him mom that he sees ghosts, her first reaction (just like Bruce Willis's, ironically) is to think he's experiencing serious mental problems. 2. When he tells her about her mother seeing her dance, that's not something that would convince her of anything. The grandmother could easily have told Cole that story while she was still alive. 3. But then he hits you with an answer to a question the mom asked the grandmother AT HER GRAVE, and there's no possible way Cole could have known that unless he's telling the truth. The Sixth Sense is a fantastic movie. I was lucky enough to have seen it in theaters when it first came out, and you can't possibly imagine how big a shock that final twist was at the time. And for a "scary" movie to have so much emotion in it is just icing on the cake.
My other theory is the ghosts are always around him because he can see them and they KNOW he can see them. Also, they rage and hurt 'because' nobody listens to them, nobody can, they have 'nobody' to talk to ... until now.
Bruce Willis was in the ABC tv hit show Moonlighting opposite Cybill Sheperd. I liked the episodes I could watch, but couldn't watch most of them as I was getting 4 to 6 hours of homework every night.
"Little did I know" reminds me instantly of one of my favorite movies. Stranger Than Fiction, staring Will Ferrel. Its an absolutely brilliant movie if you havent seen it.@VerowakReacts
Bruce Willis and Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan made a bunch of films together. You should check out Unbreakable - Split - and Glass (in that order, it will make a lot of sense to you why eventually).
@@47imaginethat seems to be the case with a shit load of reactions with Vero idk maybe she seen enough pop culture reference and sub consciously knew but I don't think she had seen it before and knew it like her phone number or somethjng.. Idk could be wrong
WOW! I've watched this movie a couple times and watched reactions probably 20 times. I ALWAYS wondered what the deal was with the closeup on that doorknob. Thanks for filling me in!
@@VerowakReacts Well, they may have made up a fake name for the movie. I'm sure the Pine-Sol company wouldn't want their product associated with poisoning kids.
The ex patient in the bathroom is a dear friend - an unrecognisable Donnie Whalberg from "New Kids..." I work in the Music Industry here in London and have worked with NKOTB several times over the years... I didn't recognise him at all. He was totally immersed in that role. A stellar performance. 😳😁🇬🇧
I recognized Donnie Wahlberg from "Band of Brothers" lol Such a different role. I knew he was from NKOTB but that was before my time so I never really knew the band
iirc, Donnie Wahlberg wanted to do the scene fully nude but got shot down by the studio because it would have messed with the rating they were aiming for.
@@LuckySmurf That's absolutely right! We discussed it when he was here in London at the time. Personally, I'm glad he didn't. I appreciate the commitment but the scene didn't need it - his acting carried it. 🙂 I think him losing so much size and being really quite frail helped too. Now I'm just waiting for Josh Hartnett's "Trap". 😁 Our Entertainment Agency will be doing a lot of the European promotion for that one. I've cheekily already asked him the twist 🙄... All I got back was to brace myself 😂😂
"I SEE A RED DOOR AND I WANT TO PAINT IT BLACK!!!".... lol I hope Vero... Knows The connection..she made.. by accident or not... That Was Great... 🎶😆🎶 Stones...... LOL🤔😁
Michael Caine graciously acknowledged his fellow nominees when he won his Oscar for Cider House Rules. The last he mentioned was Haley Joel Osment. Michael told Haley, "When I saw you, I thought, 'Well, that's me out of it.'"
You make it awfully hard to NOT watch your reactions. I watched all of your Band of Brother's videos and got addicted by your response, your understanding, your tears, laughter and smile. I surrendered and subscribed. I am just an Army vet who could not resist.
I love listening and trying to understand people. Everyone goes through different experiences, and I just want to better understand people. Band of Brothers was such an exceptional experience!
@@VerowakReacts To understand the why's and what's of WWII, one must study and understand WWI. I am a History Teacher and if you have ANY questions before or after a reaction on the subject, I would be happy to help. I also served 8 years in the Army and lived in Germany for 2 years. I have been to 13 European Countries. Hint of advice. If it's made by Hollywood, it usually is not accurate.
Pretty hard to top this for any of The Sixth Sense reactions. No one has ever caught the plot twist at that time -- that was insane! And you were so in tune with the story the whole way and no one has ever done that either to that degree. That was special. The best reaction channel, you'd definitely be nominated
According to Night, Red signifies "anything in the real world that has been tainted by the other world" and "to connote really explosively emotional moments and situations"; the carpet at the birthday party; the red balloon, which locates a ghost, but pops when Cole is hurt; Malcom's doorknob; the volume numbers on his tape recorder; sleeping Anna's shawl. For some of the time it's used, I see it as a symbol of sanctuary or as an attempt to confound the dead; the door to the church; Cole's sweater/tent, etc.
It's great to see someone with real emotion and feelings watch this. Some videos have someone like Mr, Spock sit there and try to analyze and rationalize every aspect of the movie like it's a science project or pick it apart like some dry documentary on the origins of the hammer.
Re: Bruce Willis Rom Coms before Die Hard, you are probably thinking of a TV show called Moonlighting. It was on for 5 seasons. He had hair through most of it. As I recall he played a private detective opposite Cybill Shepard. I forget what her role was but there was a lot of snarky banter between them.
Such a great show! Shepard was an actress who got swindled by her accountant, so one of the only investments she had left was her stake in this small detective agency. To preserve her investment, she goes to meet and manage the firm. It's in good hands with Willis' character.
@acecombatter6620 it's a comedy, Bruce is definitely in it, snarky jokes, and he sings, he is a cat burglar that times his heists by singing songs. Somewhere between over the top lame and hilarious
Verowak, I've been suggesting to reactors to watch "Magnolia" over & over again. It's such a fantastic movie! Directed by the great P. T. Anderson, who also directed 'Boogie Nights', 'Punch Drunk Love', 'There Will Be Blood' & others. It's one of my fave movies of all time. It also has a great soundtrack by Aimee Mann. PLEEEZ watch it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Great reaction, I hope one day you get to react to Secondhand Lions (2003 Haley Joel Osment) and Unbreakable (2000 Bruce Willis) both wonderful movies and both underrated in my opinion =)
Loved watching this again with you - you almost had it unlike most people. There's a great comedian Nate Bargatze (Netflix is a Joke) segment where he talks about this movie - pretty funny.
Sad what's happening with Bruce Willis condition, also Haley Joel Osment imo should have won an Oscar still think this is the best performance by a young/child actor.
When this came out, it was rumored that it was the best ending twist ever, so everyone wanted to go before it was given away. I can tell you that in the theatre, at the end of the car scene the in the theatre it was mass sobbing because it was from every girl in there lol, then came the realization scene and it got quiet. Then when the scene with him talking to his wode at then end, more sobs, just not as loud. Then, as the credits started to roll, people applauded.. I knew I had made the right decision by going before the ending was ruined for me that's for sure.
I believe that Walberg's character had the same ability as cole. He could see dead people, but he didn't have Bruce at an early age to help him deal with it and inderstand. Eventually it was to late and he had gone crazy by then. And finally snapped, and that's why he shot Bruce. Cole started having the same ability so bruce, After his death and without his knowledge, went to help cole and then he be at peace and could move on to the other world. I tell you this one movie is 1 of the few that really caught me off guard at the end.I did not see it that Bruce's character was dead until they showed it. Haley was up for the best actor Oscar and I think should have won and he didn't.He would have been the youngest actor to ever win.An oscar had he won.
In the DVD commentary, M. Night Shyamalan said that every time a ghost interacts with the physical world, that object is red. The doorknob, Cole's red sweater, the red blanket fort, everything.
You picked up on him being dead a little too early but still got some emotion out of you the problem between the marriage was supposed to be because he was spending too much time at focus on work it's not his relationship that's why he threatened to walk away to put more time in focus on his relationship
Wow! Never have I seen someone call the twist of this movie. You are remarkable. Okay, we knew that already. Fascinating. And yea, this movie is a masterpiece.
Wow, not many guess the reveal ahead of time, very sharp :). This is billed as a scary movie (and it certainly has its moments) but really it's quite beautiful I think. Rarely a dry eye by the end.
I definitely was not expecting it to be so emotional. No one ever mentioned that about this movie, only that it was amazing and "I see dead people" lol
This was a first watch?..... I only ask because you kept calling things right before they happened..... the poisoning by the mother...... Malcolm being dead..... the restaurant scene right before it showed the restaurant scene..... maybe you're just super perceptive LOL
I remember seeing this movie in theaters, and the collective gasps when the ending was reveal. There hadn't been a big horror movie reveal like that in so long , and people didn't see it coming. This is still one of my favorite movies and my heart still breaks every time we get to the car scene. There are so many things that we pick up on after rewatch(es). Like the fact that the wife wasn't able to let go because she felt his presence everywhere. She was in deep depression, So the fact that he is moving on means she will be able to move on, too. Same with the grandmother. You finally realize that the grandmother was unable to move on until she let her daughter know about the dance recital. But Cole wasn't able to tell his mom his secret, so his grandmother couldn't move on. You are one of the only reactors who picked up on the little sister getting sick as well.
Seeing it in theatres would have been amazing, especially since a twist wasn't expected! I love movies that let you see so many knew things on a rewatch like this one :D
I first saw Bruce Willis in Moonlighting with Cybil Shepperd. (who was in Taxi Driver and The Last Picture Show) Moonlighting was very good late 80's TV show. I cannot watch a reaction of this without a box of Kleenex. 75% of this movie is flat out heartbreaking because of the performances of the cast. Especially if it hits the reactor in the heartstrings as well. And you figured it out right before the reveal. But that's ok. Your reactions are some of my favorites. Strange how 12 angry Men and the 6th Sense, 2 of the greatest movies I've ever seen were tied. Good fortune.
No matter how often you watch this movie, you always think that it's the best movie you've ever seen - even if you've seen better in other genres. It will never grow old. Always watchable. Willis proved that he could actually ACT. Haley Joel Osment is probably the finest 'child' actor ever (I thought he was brilliant when he was even younger in Forest Gump). Thank you for posting.
For some great, comedic, pre-Die-Hard Bruce Willis, I'd like to recommend you watch some episodes of his television series Moonlighting (1985-1989) with Cybill Shepherd.
