In this video I talk through the ski boot that I'll be using this winter Provided by Sole Bootlab Chamonix (www.solesportslabs.com/)
I run a three ski boot quiver that works for the type of skiing I do around Chamonix which ranges from resort skiing, ski touring to ski mountaineering. I talk about some of the modifications that I make and also the liners I will be using.

For the ankle closure on your technica Peaks, Patriot Foot Beds makes a “liner sleeve” which compresses that ankle area for better hold. Works well.

Want to echo the recommendation for Sole! I have very high volume potato feet. I was laughed out of every ski shop in Cham when they saw my feet. The lads at Sole hooked me up with a touring boot (stretched and modded) that I love and is quite light too. Big up for Sole!!!

Loving your collab with Ronin. I run Jono’s 98’s, 108’s and a pair of 122’s which will be getting their first outing next couple of weeks. All Ronin’s absolutely charge. Looking forward to that video. Great content as ever.

Interested in how your Raide test goes. A video review of installation and impressions would be great. I just love my ZGTP boots but also have +1deg and then a spoiler taped onto the back of the liner. The boots need more forward lean options for sure.

Love the channel Dave - between the technical/informative videos like this it would be amazing to also just get some vlogs of you out on the mountain around Cham… “off the back of Grand Montets” type stuff… remarkable how few decent day to day “good” ski vloggers there are in Europe in comparison to the guys in the US - would be great to just watch you ski too!

I’d love to do more vlog style videos of days out in the mountains here. One of the problems for me is finding the time to actually edit during my busy season. That’s why I want to get my numbers up so I can hopefully get some sponsorship to pay an editor!

Same Tecnica boots, but Peak carbon. I am using the Cochise 130 for pure freeriding. Great trio. I added a wrap liner (Intuition) for my zero G tour pro for more warmth this fall to ski at 7300m. So far used this liner as well here is the Alps. It's warmer but also holds better downhill than the original liner. Downside is that it offers less movement liberty uphill. I have to try your proposal of using the 0G liner into the Peak. Issues with the Peak for me : (i) the ski/walk mode lever is quite far from the boot when in walk mode, a bit risky to break it when walking/climbing in rock (happens often in spring). (ii) the front buckle has a too short cable (for my large front foot), when locked in the first notch it's too tight for a confortable uphill (getting better after 30-60min, warmer I guess).

Great video! Take it you’re using the CAST setup for freeriding this winter? Would be interested to hear what that’s like, thinking of adding that to my QST 106s. This series is awesome so far, exactly what I’ve been waiting for. Can’t wait to see you build the custom skis!

Thanks! Yeah I have the cast setup on my new skis and will likely get another pair and put quiver killers in to swap them around. Seems like a super solid setup so I’m excited to try them out!

Hi Dave, I have the Zero G Pro Tour and the Zipfit liner since last season and it was the absolute game changer for me. I have very small and thin Feet and ankles and it is really hard for me to find a good fit in basically every shoe, but particularly ski boots. That said the fit withe the Technica and the Liner (We even stuffed more cork fill in) is incredible - now it is the first time that a touring boot really feels like a ski boot should feel. I also tried Intuition liners for example, but nothing came close. So I highly recommend that liner, especially if you have rather small and thin feet. Even if it has a hefty price tag.

It seems like Tecnica and Nordica are really nailing it with boots, I own the Zero G but not the Pro model, it goes down on stiffness but up in confort and no cold feet on this one!

I have a similar foot but with a high arch. Wide forefoot and really low volume heel and ankle. Sounds like we did very similar things going for a low volume boot except I went with an Atomic Hawx Ultra XTD 120 (98 last). I felt atomics had the narrowest heel pockets. I then heat formed the forefoot area hoping that Atomic's claims on the heat moldability of their polyurethane were all true. There are aspects to this boot I don't like and I would love to get the Dynafit Tigard 130. I just worry about the heel pocket of a higher volume boot and the heat moldability of the grilamid. Need to put one on at some point.

I've just switched from a Scarpa NTN (telemark) boot with tech-bindings to a Technica touring-boot. Needs more adjusting for my toes, but way more control whilst skiing!

The peak carbon is heavier and felt less elastic so went for this model instead.

Finally. Found someone with the same setup. I have the Doberman but went with the M. Did an atomic minc pro foam. And will have the cast put in soon. How do you find the S flex? Is it to much? Makes me nervous now I shoold of gone for that. But again I’m only 175cm and 150lbs so you might have some mass on me.

Nice video! Still using the zeroG tour Pro for every situation, but I'm getting curious about using the cochise liner. Undoubtedly it could be better for downhill, but what about walking mode? Do you feel any difference with the stock liner?
@DaveSearle
@DaveSearle 7 месяцев назад
For sure the stock liner is a little easier to tour with but if I’m looking for that freedom of movement then I’d take the peak boot. I think the Cochise liner makes a lot of sense if you are using the boots a lot but perhaps it’s not for everyone

Hi Dave- great content! Crazy question, but does SOLE BootLab have the ability /technology to virtually scan feet? I would imagine there is some type of technology out there in some capacity. I live in US and am about 6 hours from any local backcountry ski shops. Thank you

I watched a video from a ski pro advising you only need a molded footbed/arch support if you have weak feet/pronation issues etc which I don't. So after some time trying boots on in store i ordered the Salomon s/pro mv 120, i have wide feet and these felt great. I notice you said that you put your liners in the microwave for 20 seconds then walked around in them, these boots have a custom 4d pro liner, so would you recommend doing that myself for a more 'custom' mold? Thanks in advance
@DaveSearle
@DaveSearle 7 месяцев назад
Hopefully you have the right size! The 4d liner needs cooking in a different way from the purple zipfit liner I’m talking about in this video. This liner is filled with cork and oil so putting it in the mircowave softens the oil so the material becomes viscous. The 4d liner is made of foam so needs more heating to actually mould to your foot. As for footbeds did you see my video on this? Most people will benefit from a properly stabilised foot for skiing for a number of reasons. That’s the general consensus within ski boot fitters. There are a few flat earthers out there though.

Dave - how did you address sizing between your boots? Did you upsize for the two touring models?
@DaveSearle
@DaveSearle 5 месяцев назад
I upsized for the zg peak from 25.5 to 26.5. They are a smaller shell size anyway and I wanted some more space for climbing ice and for warmth.

I have exactly that same foot. 11 1/16" heel to toe and 110 wide at the forefoot. Low arch, low volume. What do you think of the Tecnica Mach1 130 HV or the Atomic Hawx Magna 130 for this foot? With a cork custom foot bed.

Hi, first of all, awesome review! I'm 185 cm tall and weigh 185 kg. I'll be skiing on Black Crows Navis Freebird skis (102 mm) with Dynafit Rotation bindings. Do you think the Zero G Peak would still be adequate for me, or would it be too light to drive my skis, and should I stick with the Zero G Tour Pro?
@DaveSearle
@DaveSearle 5 месяцев назад
I’d say that the tour pro would be a much better option for you. The peak is quite soft and I bet you’d notice that more than I do.

Not tried them but just got my hands on the atomic hawx ultra xtd 130 boa and been trying those out as an alternative that I can fit in all my bindings plus I was curious about the boa. Might talk about them in the future.

Which pair (of the 2 Tercnica) would you take on the haute route? Also, what’s your experience on the downhill with the Peak? Thanks!
@DaveSearle
@DaveSearle 4 месяца назад
I’d choose the peak for the haute route as the up is more than the down and the downs aren’t that challenging. I find the peak a lot harder to ski well in compared to the tour pro but it is still able to drive 95mm uf skis well.

@Benzknees
@Benzknees 7 месяцев назад
The GFT is the touring liner & it's been out since 2021. Great heel hold & performance by all counts, but it weighs 577g versus 236g for the Zero G stock liner. A better inbetween option are Intuition liners, either the tour wrap or tour tongue liners, which should be warmer & more comfortable than those others, whilst still offering good downhill performance.
@DaveSearle

they have updated the GFT for this season.
