Can't believe most of the skyscrapers in New York are close to 100 years old, even the subway system is more than a 100 years old, and all of the infrastructure is still being used today in 21st century. You have to give props to the Engineers who designed and constructed the city more than 100 years ago, their legacy is still in function today. But, New York does need a massive upgrade, in fact, most cities in America have outdated infrastructure, compared to Dubai, Singapore, Tokyo, etc.., American cities do not have have the modern edge that those cities have.

Dubai's layout is garbage. They went way to fast with expanding and just threw al the high rise next to the highway that runs literally through the city for quick accessibility. No one walks. There's no culture.

100% agreed. I always loved seeing the skyline as a kid (which included the twin towers), but now the skyline is nowhere near the same. I see it every morning and I’m shocked by how much has changed even in the last 5 years. While I’m sure I’ll grow accustom to it, it’s strange walking in the city now since the newer construction has made it feel less “authentic”... it’s difficult to explain but I’m happy to see that there are updated facilities and a renewed sense of growth following 9/11. It’s true that the city never sleeps but who would’ve guessed it would be getting such a massive growth spurt!

A major reason you don't see more is the engineering issues of irrigation at those hights as well as the fact that roots split and disintegrate concrete.

@@noahstevens3060 I can't imagine irrigation being too big of an issue since the plumbing would already be up there for the building itself. Putting a few trees on the roof/outside of a building does not make it green. Especially one hundreds of meters tall made up of millions of tons of steel, glass and concrete (some of the most polluting materials and associated industries). If you want to see more green buildings in New York you’re not going to find them in the form of skyscrapers.

While it's vastly beyond my paygrade, 111W57 has my complete approval, I'm so sick of skyscrabers just being giant glass greenhouses, I genuinely would prefer to look at buildings in a more classical style.
@georgesealy4706
@georgesealy4706 5 лет назад
Yeah, but I have to think that baby is going to sway, at least some. I worked in NYC for a long time. It gets very windy as it sweeps across the NJ meadowlands and Hudson River. I don't think I would enjoy being on the top floors of 111W57 no matter how elegant the living is. You gotta feel it move every once in a while.
@op4000exe
@op4000exe 5 лет назад
@@georgesealy4706 I personally have no idea, I will admit it looks a bit too thin, but honestly I've never been to NYC, and propably never will. I'd just personally like some more asthetically pleasing skyscrabers, that go well with more being present. Most skyscrabers are beautiful if they're on their own, but almost any city in which a skyscraber is built, will be a city with more being built, so if the ruling system of the city set certain requirements for similarities (not identical buildings, just superficial similarities, so they don't seem to come from completely different places), I'd imagine it'd make the city more beautiful over all.
