Going down the "Gang of Four" route as Speer is interesting because slowly you start to feel less like you're playing Speer, the leader, and more like you're playing as Schmidt until randomly you get annoyed at Speer, despite technically playing as him.

The lyrics describe Germans wanting to love Germany and feel nationalism but being unable to because of the nation's crimes in the past. Given Helmut's character in TNO, it's perfect

I hated HOI4 for its game mechanics, but the alt-hist modding for HOI has never been more compelling than now. I therefore follow it purely through channels like this and the Wiki, while not having to actually play HOI4 :D
Out of all Paradox game the only one I can barely comprehend is CK3. However, after I played a HOI4 tutorial and started as a Russian warlord in TNO everything was rather smooth. I guess that's because the game is so strongly narrative driven that it doesn't allow you to do most of the usual things you do in Paradox game and fuck everything up.
@@warhammerist4597 I haven't played it, only CK2, and I found that to be really one of the "easiest" to follow of the ones of its time (with Vicky2 being the hardest, but that's just me). I love the first three HoI games, don't get me wrong, and I'd love to be able to get along with HoI4. MAYBE I'll try it your way sometime and surrender to the narrative play :)

@@maude7420 The Three Arrows were historically used by leftist anti-fascist groups though, and Willy Brandt himself was a member of the left-wing faction of the SPD in our timeline. The Slave Revolt certainly has a strong socialist undercurrent, even as a big tent, and it's not an adversary of socialism at all. It's a United Front of the most radical anti-fascist resistance groups out there, coalescing into one huge uprising after the Gang of Four lit the fire of reform, and time will tell what direction we can pull it towards if additional content is added for them.

Even in-game the Armeeverband "Freies Europa" (Slave Revolt state) is classified as Social Democrat rather than Authoritarian Socialist. A method of ideological measure here could be Komi Republic - where all the AuthSocs and one LibSoc are in leftist political bloc while SocDems are in centrist/liberal bloc alongside ConDems, LibDems and AuthDems. It's also a mirror of what happened in real life - Brandt was a chancellor of liberal Bundesrepublik Deutschland in OTL - rather than authoritarian-socialist Deutsche Demokratische Republik. The OPs point still stands - Slave Revolt liberal and not communist (or rather, authoritarian-socialist).
