A whiteboard video on the slave trade and the conditions of enslaved people carried to the Americas.
My students use the following textbook, some of whose units I have intended to summarize with these videos:
Alavosus, Laura, editor. Social Studies Alive! America's Past. Palo Alto: TCI, 2010.
The whiteboard designs and spoken commentary are all my own.

Very nice video to education society on history that is constantly trying to be erased no matter how sad as the video stated. sometimes we need to be sad to learn and not try to change or weaponize history to be able to respond in intellect instead of emotion and false narratives by polarizing factions in America. God bless+

If needed, use the trancript to save time on a computer, laptop or maybe tablet by clicking a button with 3 dots near the save button. Then click open transcript, if you do not see it, then your devic e is not capable of doing this.

Who were the main profiteers of the sale of salves? Who financed the slave trade? Who owned the ships that transported the slaves? Aren't these important questions about the history of the slave trade?

in the trade triangle, Europeans brought their cargo to sell, which made profit to finance the journey through the middle passage and then they made more profit by selling them in the Americas, the main profiteers were the owners of the ships as they would get most of the money.

We can choose to view slavery in a modern context or we can measure it in its own. Slavery for 1000’s of years has always been a component of commerce and America should not feel guilty that it was a proponent. Progressive thinking is only possible when abundance allows time for reflection edged on with new science. In a 100 years that we eat animals may be looked back on with equal disgust and guilt.. Context is everything.

Slavery has also been a topic of "the evils of the world" for 1000s of years. It's mentioned Biblically (ex: Exodus). But to scoot a bit closer to this timeline mentioned in the video: Denmark banned importing slaves in the late 1700s. England - not too far behind (1807). AND it's mentioned in the letters and proposals of America's Founding Fathers *before* America ever became an independent nation, and a continued conversation thereafter. AND YET, America persisted in this practice; Not because they were obtuse, pleading innocence, claiming: "Who knew this was wrong?! It's just what was always done!", but instead, out of depravity. It was what was preferred, despite; a cognitive dissonance in play. All while those - in the SAME moments in time - knew were wrong practices. So this isn't "modern-defined bad", this was an "always bad" POV by those of moral conscience.
