Totally. You can just feel this groove in early 70s playing through the large sound system in the Kingston block party and everyone just felling it. Epic rhythm
Johnny Too Bad - The Slickers Walking down the road With your pistol in your waist, Johnny you're too bad. Walking down the road With your ratchet in your waist, Johnny you're too bad. You're just robbing and you're stabbing and you're looting and you're shooting Now you're too bad. You're just robbing and you're stabbing and you're looting and you're shooting Now you're too bad. One of these days when you hear a voice say come Where you gonna run to One of these days when you hear a voice say come Where you gonna run to You're gonna run to the rock for rescue There will be no rock You're gonna run to the rock for rescue There will be no rock Walking down the road With your pistol in your waist, Johnny you're too bad. Love this Was 9yrs old when this came out. Was visiting relatives in Kingston. Coming from rural Jamaica (Santa Cruz) going to Kingston was an event. Matinee at Carib then pattie at Tastee. MI did ah forget, custard too.
Pure magic. 2:50 Jamaican brothers sure can lay down a sweet groove. It’s clearly spiritual (non religious) if you play it loud, dance and let it take you in
And i am still running down the road , but i will slow down when Someone needs a Rock , maybe We can find a new Rock together . Thanks , Timbro 😎 420 and Peace .
I know this tune back in the 70s I never heard this in ages. But today 5/12/2022 this tune pop up in my head. I'm now 56 it's been years since I haven't dream of this
I particularly love this song because it applies to the current situation that the youth in Uganda are faced with! Everyone condemns them for being bad behaved without asking Why!? Many have been killed in mob Justice when caught pettythiefing, etc! Many form the majority of Prison inmates! It's very disheartening!
they you can have too much of a good thing ,this is one of the good things and maybe they are wrong about it. Rare these days really and you can listen to it again ,never get's to be anything but a good song and record
The UK has hands down produced and recognized the most extensive list of the most far reaching and impactful music through an endless list of men and women who's interest, practice and talent. The UK has had such a wide variety of music ranging from early british rock trough acid to heavy metal to puink to new wave to industrial , techno, house, trance, garage, trip hop , jungle , break beat, drum n bass and powerhouse electronica such as Chemical Brothers and UInderworld. PLus a liost of the best Dj's on earth goldie, ltj bukem , sasha , digweed, seamn, carl cox just to name a few. As if tht wasn't enough the also DISCOVERED JIME HENDRIX. That says it all. There is no one above Hendrix no one not Lennon not Ozzy, Not even Marley. Oh BTW Jaimca isn'yt Haiti with a ll do love and respect. Jaimaca isn't Cuba. It was a UK colony just like the US was. Can 't be coincidence Any way this is just my opinion. Don't trip on my typos you can corrrect them if you'd lie . opps if you'd like
I dig the UK. I descend from there, have family there and visit regularly. My fave bands are from the UK. But to say attribute this artist or reggae/ska music to the UK because Jamaica was a colony years before is a major league stretch. The UK’s great claim to fame is it’s citizens being great early fans of so many great African based music and rhythms. Whether it was blues and soul from America that helped spawn the Stones, Cream and more or reggae and ska from Jamaica that helped spawn punk and 2 tone bands like the Clash, Specials and more, UK citizens had an ear for quality regardless of skin tone unlike many in America who needed to see and hear largely white copies of the same music before they embraced the originators. Again for the record, I love the UK, it’s people and it’s amazing musical legacy to the world. I just want to say your thesis is flawed.
@@deeg8849 You misinterpreted or perhaps I wasn't clear. The English language is unique. A blend of some latin from its time as a Roman territory that moved on to Anglo Saxon Jute Germanic conquered by Norman old French as well as Norse in a nutshell anyway. That's why I mentioned Haiti and the Spanish Colonies. I'm fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and an English Speaker and it's very complex to explain in such a limited platform but the Jamaican accent is as much a part of ska rock steady reggae as it's 1 2 accent on the 3 4 beat. You could argue the reason that I think this way is because I speak English but I've lived outside the US in Colombia, Brasil and Mexico for more years than I've lived in the US speaking English. I don't speak English. I speak Spanish. I don't intend to explain because it's again beyond this platforms lengths limit. So it's not a theory therefore it can't be flawed. It's my opinion which IS NOT SUBJECT TO YOUR OR ANYONE'S JUDGEMENT. I DO NOT SPEAK FOR YOU DO I? NO I DON'T. NOW TELL ME WHAT COMES NEXT? THAT'S RIGHT GOOD MAN. YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR ME. SHOULD I DRILL DOWN AND SAY THAT INCLUDES THINKING, EATING, BREATHING, SLEEPING, WORKING, SURFING if u surf that is, LIKING, HATING, LOVING, LIVING and what follows living......oh now I remember DYING...but hell you can do that last one if you really want to assert your "My theory is flawed." remark because I ain't having it. I trust you're decent enough to recognize your error in judgement. Opinions are everyone's right because they are Subjective not Objective. What I asserted IS objective unless you assert that I have no right to Experience the world through myself. Don't feel hurt just in case my bad I should ask I hope you don't feel offended or that I'm being aggressive. I wasn't offended I just ain't having Anyone telling me which way the water flows, what time it is or to fuck up my coffee or tea by adding milk or sugar. I know that's really popular but damn dude I like the taste of coffee and tea and milk maybe I'm a purest. Someone told me that once although I don't know what that means but..... kind of sounds cool. I wouldn't mind knowing exactly how your thought process went that led you to your "my Theory is flawed." Conclusion. Is my coffee black tea no sugar and. just plain milk please theory flawed too? No. That's your answer it has to be. So why should my opinion regarding English adding that special something to music. There is a very deep reason why English is the most powerful. That's not being racist or whatever it's based on accuracy efficiency and frequency. It conducts thoughts better just like copper conducts electricity better than other material. Is that why it sounds so good? That's subjective but go listen to reggae in Spanish or Portuguese or any other language and tell me it sounds just as good. It's a unusual thing when two things mix and become as good or better than it's components which again is subjective. Let's go Brandon! Cuidate Dee peace
Original Jamaican band that grew up in the hot carribean ghettos and are rooted they're noting to do with England in terms of production they just listned to ska they didn't own it
This song's lyrics are more valid in Uganda today than they were in the 70's America, or elsewhere in the World! Bad laws that contradict Holy Books teachings, etc, are leading our youth to destructive paths and we jump into the conclusion to condemn them without analyzing why!
