Doug Goodrich's update and overview of the Sling High Wing is truly enlightening! Drawing parallels to the modern Cessna 182 and even comparing it to the Van's RV-15 adds an intriguing perspective to its capabilities. 👍

Looks great. I’m glad you were able to get pictures of big people in the plane, too. That’s helpful! How does the shoulder room and headroom compare to the TSi?

Just a musings but if you are using an electric AC I wonder if you could use some lithium prismatic cells as a counterweight and also provide some power to the AC unit at the same time.

I had a similar thought. That way the counterweights become a useful load.

Doug, if you chose not to have the parachute, I would guess that the rear air condition balance wouldn’t be an issue, right? Great video. This definitely helped me make a final decision on building the high wing. Although I prefer the low wing, I think the high wing is better for ease of entry and exit, especially as I get older.

Tino, the HW has less balance issues than the TSi so it's really not an issue. Improving the ease of entry is one of the main reasons Sling developed the HW. We are looking forward to working with you on the HW project.

From what I have been told, the 916 is just a 915 with the manifold pressure increase to get more takeoff horsepower. Therefore it likely wont weight much different.

I think you'll find also that the HW takes longer Roget airborne because it is heavier (1050Kgs vs 950Kgs) and of course for some of the legs that the 3 Ship flew they were "overloaded" to 1350Kgs.

Doug, thanks for the great video. I really appreciate the insights on the Rotax 916 iS being a possible future option. I live in Arizona and split time between locations in Sonora Mexico and Arizona USA. I envision a lot of flying that would occasionally involve being just above, over, or slightly in canyons. One concern I've always had is that if you have 3 passengers and you're flying a bit low and slow and you encounter some nasty thermal activity when flying near canyons... well it would be nice to have more headroom above 135hp to goose the plane a bit and climb out of the situation with confidence. I understand that a MAX Power of 165hp would only be available for a matter of minutes (< 5?), but it would be nice to have that 165hp to help you climb out of harms way for 2 or 3 minutes in lieu of just 141hp. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but that's the only reservation I've had about a 4 place HW w/ just a smaller 4 cylinder powerplant. 135hp is awesome all day long.. but that extra 30hp available for just a few minutes, especially with passengers and some equipment on board, is comforting. BTW, I am in the Albany NY area at least twice a year... I'll have to visit you all sometime. Ok, heading over to your website to view that HW price sheet!

I don’t know why he didn’t mention the exact solution to your problem and what everyone else on planet earth wants to know. How to order the plane with the much better built Edgeperformance engine. Like Duh, It’s a match made in heaven, the 916 nonsense is just more stress on an old Rotax design.

I'm about 5 years out from wanting to start my build. It's probably too early to get on the list, but this is the airplane I'm going to build. Hopefully by then the 916 will be established and the weight and balance on the HW will be well understood. How far out do you reserve slots for the build assist?

The Build Assist is not the issue. We will find the time to get another build through. The HW is developing a pretty long waiting list. The spot in line is only $5k and fully refundable. If you are a few years out, I wouldn't wait too long.

I’m also looking to build this with the 916 engine. Saw rotax testing it in Austria, it’s going to be a sweet engine. Engine is coming soon. I’m told there’s about 2-3 year wait for the sling hw kit. $5k refundable deposit to get in line.

Please update us on what the build community comes up with on air conditioning in the TSI! This is the main differentiating factor between the TSI and DA40 for my particular use case and I would love to fly a sling.

Will do. There are several solutions being looked at or actively developed in the Sling community. It's not a matter of if, but when there will be an air conditioning solution for the Sling.

Why not just add a Bigger engine like a UL powerd engine instead of adding lead weights?

Just thinking over you extra weight needed Why not add a dual battery setup or even add in a some extra storage for tools that won’t be removed Be pity lose some useful load without adding any useful gains
