I truly feel awful for kids growing up now and not getting to experience the fun of having all your friends over for a Saturday of snacks and split screen games. We were doing that all the time.
Look I'm not a kid by any means, but I play with my younger cousins in that way using for example, Minecraft, or Among Us (not anymore but in 2020 lol) etc, there are lots of games that can still be played in Couch Co-op mode, but most people our age (asuming you're an adult too) don't know those games because they're for kids.
I played "The New Tetris" on N64 the other night. My girlfriend walks in and asks if she could try the game, I handed her the extra controller and we ended up playing for over two hours against each other and we had a lot of fun. There is just something special playing in the same room together.
Yeah but what companies fail to realize is that split-screen actually helps sells systems and games more as it gives the original consumer the ability to showoff their purchase to friends and family and if they like the game enough will most likely go on to buy their own system and copy of the game so that they can play together from home. A lot of the game I've played were introduced to me from someone who asked if I wanted to split screen with them while the games that I played that were not split screen capable or co-op are very few in number. Split-screen is not just a consumer convenience it is also a marketing tool. So not only are these companies greedy, they're also very stupid.
@@Pen_Slinger This is a great point that I completely forgot about. I think companies have put all their eggs into digital marketing and social media, which might have more reach but still aren't the same as playing a game with someone via split-screen and realising you like it (and then buying it etc). That was exactly how I found Halo in the first place.
Bring back and make the following standard to help keep games value and independence. - P2P - Doesn't need corporate servers and can play with trusted friends - LAN/ADHOC - Doesn't require to be online - Split screen - as described in the video - offline bots - Multiplayer available anytime when no players around.
Number 1, freaking love your videos. Number 2, being a dad, and a husband, and all of my family loves to play video games, couch co-op is key mainly for memory making, and plus i have no time to play solo anymore. Its much more fullfilling to play co-op. The new UFO50 was amazing for this BTW!
switches are game changers man! 100000% get one! I I've plaid so many co-op games on the train and on planes with friends and we literally just used the 1 switch and the two joy sticks to play and it was a ton of fun! Also the comfort of playing handheld is so convenient. I get a ten minute game sesh in every time I go the the bathroom lol
@@ExtraMintyy Hades 1 & 2 are a lot of fun. Breath of the wild is a MUST. I’m currently playing the original ff7 and it’s blowing me away especially since it’s been out since 97! If you like scary games and studio Ghibli I’d recommend little nightmares
100% agree on this, I miss it constantly on big budget games and it has become a strong point for indies and NIntendo it seems. If you can afford a Switch, go for it - tons of good first party stuff and some solid indies that have local coop.
There's nothing more that I want than to be able to play games co-op with my partner next to me on the couch. Everything you see nowadays is online multiplayer only. I'm annoyed 😒 Edited to say, I'm glad you mentioned It Takes Two! It's one of the only games in my recent memory that I've been able to play with my partner.
Aaaaaabsolutely worth getting a Switch. You can play FF1-XII on the go. Sooo many SNK fighters, and the new MvC all on the go, as well as Pokemon and all their first party titles. Secretly, the Switch Lite is the best of their current batch of consoles if you really enjoy handheld ergonomics, but I recommend being indulgent for an OLED Switch as well for docked multiplayer at home :)
I remember back in the day going to a friends house to play titles like left for dead 1 and 2, world at war zombies and also world at war campaign was sick af too. Sadly we will never have that ever again. But the advantages of online gaming is that you can connect with anyone in the world.
Don't forget about that 3d Sony TV that used two headsets with different polarized lenses so it could overlay the split screens over each other. Both players got full screen. That didn't go anywhere..
I'm a bit late but i believe the next nintendo console should be releasing around next year sometime, so keep that in mind before buying a switch but honestly looking at it in retrospect, the switches catalogue is nothing short of amazing. (Though i rarely ever play mine nowadays, but thats just me being lazy)
Corporate publishers mandated *500 LIVE SERVICE* games, almost all the big flops have been live service games. Games live or die on player count are totally or half useless once the corporate servers switch off.
Remember - you are loved! Jesus loved you and gave his life so that you could be free because of Him! He died for our sins so that we can be reconnected with our Creator God. He wants us all to repent of our sins and receive a new life in Him! A life of strength, faith, and the ability to truly love others as God has loved us. He wants us to follow Him, and let Him be the Lord of our lives. Why is that part important? Because through Christ we will be given the power to overcome sin in our lives today. Christ offers this blessing to all who choose to believe in Him, trust Him and follow Him xx He will never leave you nor forsake you xxx
They don’t have to be, thanks to updates they’ll just add it “later”. Plus, people will still buy it anyway. Whereas before the game had to perfect on release since it was physical media.
i also feel that the removal of couch co-op style gameplay was another reason behind the lacking reason of owning consoles. consoles were to be the most accessible home option for many gamers, and when they removed that staple of console gaming then ofc gaming became “lonely”. only feeling more targeted per consumer since they literally have no choice (like you mentioned), but to spend a hunk of money to just play ONE GAME. the inclusion of cross platforming helps, but it’s not the same.
my only complaint with Couch Co-Op back in the day was in a lot of games the playfield would be split into 4 windows and with our small low res crt TVs back in the day it was hard to tell what was going on .i liked the smash bros games and other fighting games because they didn't have this issue maybe it would have been more fun on a big tv .
Devs can't even make a complete, finished game anymore, its no surprise theres no couch co-op. That, and always online/online connected consoles and the endless monetization.
The only company who still cares about split-screen and couch co-op at this point is Nintendo. when my nephew comes over to play games together it’s always the Switch we end up playing on
we never had this on pc, the only couch co-op games are party games nowadays I'm surprised when a game has split screen support on playstation multiplayer in general is much less social and inconvenient in cod lobbies don't work like they used to so you can't keep playing with the same group most games don't have voice chat and text chat is limited even mmos are now built to be played solo instead of as a group
There are a heap of indie games fully embracing couch co-op, including ourselves. Nothing like playing games with your friends and family on the same couch :)
Recently played Earth Defense Force 6 on PC with split screen campaign co-op using Steam's remote play together. Me and my brother had a good time despite not being in the same room.
