Really Ryan that big slimy boy is the only nickname you could come up with , here's one the Slug OF Darkness or The Slug Lord or The Slug Boss or The Slug Badass come on any other suggestions guys
He killed heretics. And since he didn't have the will to kill his wife... he decide to sacrifice his wife for greater power and run from his past.. he captures and eat heretics, but when he was found out. He killed the guy whole family and then killed him... might just comes with bring an apostle.
I've read Berserk three times by now, I knew the Apostle that killed Pippin seemed familiar but I hadn't realized it was The Count! That's so damn awesome, the fact that Gut's ended up finding the bastard who killed the thiccest boi of the band
@@edwardgaines6561 Well Miura has also yet to confirm whether or not Void is the sage and definitely whether or not Skull Knight is Gaiseric, Skull Knight hasn't even been named in the manga, besides Femto calling him Knight of Skeleton.
@@Esenin472 That and the origin of the Berserker Armor. It just had to end on an even bigger cliffhanger. I'm guessing the next chapter will focus on the Moonlight Boy arrival to Elf Helm or Rickert and the Bakiraka.
i recently re-read the black swordsman arc and the count is interesting when it comes to the series theme of fate. It is said no one has ever turned the Godhand down but at the end the count did. While you may say he didn't do it to protect his daughter, it shows that the chain of causality can be cut
But it still works within causality. Guts can affect causality because he has the brand; he has ascended more than that of human as he now exists in both the astral plane. The count can affect causality because he is an apostle, which strictly affects the astral plane, but I guess since the physical world is merged can also affect that. I guess this can lead to a point that maybe guts can use the behelit and possibly end femto as well, thus ending the story.
There is actually a quote by Void where when the Count remains silent Void says " The Thread of Causality has been severed." I 100% believe that this should show that causality is like watching a general trend as opposed to being aware of everything minutiae of what will happen
If Will pulls the rip cord, Jada's gonna clean up nicely in divorce court. She designed it that way, rubbing it in the Fresh Prince's face. He's stuck.
Fun Fact: The Knight Templar were FORCED to do a FALSE CONFESSION* you see, The Order of the Knights Templar worked also as loaners, they had their own economic department and they were pretty good at it, the King of France approached them, and asked for a Loan to participate in the Third Crusade (although he was a stoch christian its pretty much obvious he was just competing with his English rival Richard the Lionhearted) so, the Knights lend him alot of money so he could transport his army to Palestine, and alot I mean ALOT! when the Third Crusade concluded in a christian defeat, the Knights Templar went back to his home country, France, and thus they continued to do their normal activities as christian law enforcerers and also economic power, they demanded the King of France to pay his debt, debt the King of France was not willing to pay... The King of France was pretty annoyed by these warrior monks, he had the power but he will be frowned upon to condemn holy warriors, so he started to craft an evil scheme, he began a secret hunting of the remnants of the Knights Templar and he tortured them for months, most of the perished and even more confessed false sins just to end their pain and missery. Thus this is why it is said that the Knight Templar worshiped Baphomet, because one knight said so in his confession... but we must know that he was being tortured, and he was FORCED to.... so the tale that the Knight Templar worshiped Baphomet was pretty much false, it was all a plot of the King of France to make them be seen as heretics and guilty just because he didnt want to pay his debt..... such an asshole, right?
That's right, King Phillip the 4th put the Templar's through all that horrific medieval torture cause he wanted their riches. The most successful and influential order of crusaders were destroyed by a greedy piece of shit, not on the battlefield
It's likely where the old adage "If you owe someone 1000$ you have a problem, but If you owe someone 100,000$ THEY have a problem." comes from. All through out time debt either caused murders/wars or forced people into exile onto the frontiers.
Wow, I never knew this. In all places I have read they all said the Templars became pagans after traveling through the Palestines, and began to adopt some of their rituals and religions. This is the first time I read such a thing. Could you tell me where I can find more information about this? Most books, articles, and documentaries that I research are completely biased on the information I mentioned (and so did you).
@@gabrielhawk for a quick review about the topic, you can search the video of "History Matters - The fall of the Knights Templars" there are many more videos about such thing, but you must dig, its true that the Knights Templar were accused for adoring pagan idols, but, those trials were arranged and the Knights Templars were forced to do that confession, wich in truth, they never did adore any pagan Idol, its just that they had the bad fortune of givin a shitty king a big Loan, a Loan that he wasnt willing to pay.... and as a totalist monarchist, he can do what he wanted, so he started hunting templars along all of Europe, thats why the Templars died pretty quickly after the fall of Jerusalem, and only the Spanish and German Teutonic order remained.
Just started reading berserk. The count really was one of the most tragic character I’ve seen yet. Crazy how shonen people even forget this manga, seinen’s like this, Vinland, and vagabond really make characters in around 4 chapters that are more complex than most shonen
Yes, it's a character that you hate at first and then it's kind of felt by him, it's amazing how the work makes humanity seem visible even in villains, which many animes don't do.
I dislike the first half of the Black Swordsman arc, but I actually enjoy the battle against the Slug Count and the way Griffith first appears. Also, it's interesting how the Slug Count is probably the only Nobleman in Berserk who didn't try to rape anyone.
I think the lore in his arch establishes that the Band of the Hawk are in the Abyss or Vortex of Souls to suffer for all eternity. Makes it hurt even worse.
Going back once again to Dark Souls/Berserk connections, some images of the Count look at lot like the robed followers of Aldrich in Dark Souls 3. Especially the dead body where you actually join the Aldrich covenant.
given the fact that dark souls monsters were inspired by the apostles, godhand, and other such monsters of berserk it's not surprising that some of their monsters look similar, since berserk was their inspiration
When Guts was fighting the possessed general the last time, while climbing the tower. It was like he was fighting the monster from the movie "The Thing" Miura definitely took a lot of inspiration from that movie.
i really liked him as a character and as a person because i could understand the pain the the suffering he went through with his wife and love for his daughter he is the only villain i could like and kinda low key didn't want him to die
At least Kentaro Miura knew his history about what a count is instead of making every lord or noble a king. Berserk is fantasy but they got that right.
It's interesting that the counts behelit (unless I missed something) has remained in the story all this time. It's interesting that it was used to introduce the idea that an apostle may sacrifice a second time to escape defeat, and I wonder if Miura abandoned this concept, or intended to reuse it
My brother gifted me the first three volumes of Berserk in a deluxe edition for Christmas. I read through the entire thing in like a day, and I absolutely love the Count. His Apostle form design is so iconic.
Looking back on it all, Corkus was avenged at the start of the manga, Pippin was avenged with the death of the count and Judaeo was avenged by Casca during the Eclipse itself.
I always thought this guy would be like a wall of muscle with no bones like a slug is 99% muscle in real life , this made him seem extra powerful to me reading the manga, also the way he effortlessly smashed through metres of stone in the castle was pretty crazy
Bro, I literally liked and subscribed, just because of the ending part telling me to subscribe. 😂 The video was awesome. The story of the Count is honestly one of my favorites in the series. Gonna watch more videos
When I think about all the similar aspects from both Berserk and Dark Souls... The Count always radiated the same energy as "Alrdich, Devourer of Gods" from Dark Souls 3: -Sluggish Body Style -Fallen from grace origin backstory -Both are "Originally" Highly Ranked individuals within their religious cliques -Each has a soft spot for mortal(s), The Count with his Daughter... and Aldrich with Anri and Horace of Asorta -Both have developed a taste for devouring flesh, Mortal or Godlike
how do you have sympathy for literal sadistic monster? oh no he wanted to save his daughter. who cares hes a mass murderer and rapist just like 90% of the apostles. good riddance
@@icantfeelshitatall6285 well, you cant blame the person for symphatisizing to a demon who was once a human being, but snapped due to there lack of will. I mean, if behelit existed in our world then some of us could potentially become an apostle/demons because, well, some are mentally weak that they give in to their inner darkness or f*cked up desires.
@@icantfeelshitatall6285 if evil and just have weights and values on any moral scale..just mathematically speaking, no amount of evil/injustice committed in a FINITE lifespan can justify INFINITE punishment. Some of the best characters in fiction are those who commit great evils but live to endure the weight of their actions and grow from it.
A little something I notice which may or may not be true: the Count's Apostle appearance and the soul coil coming from the Vortex may have inspired some creature designs in Dead Space 2, namely the Tormentor and Tripods.
I had the first 3 volumes of berserk for a whole year before actually going on to by the rest so I would go back and read all 3 books multiple times over that year so slug boi has a special place in my arc maybe it’s just nostalgia but the whole scene when guts puck the count and Theresia where sent to another dimension and has there interactions with the god hand is one of my favorite in the series knowing what it means in hindsight being guts first interaction with Griffith since the eclipse
@Broly The Sarcastic Savage Yeah it's not a good choice but the idea that if you get a behelit then you will have no choice but to use it because it's fate for it to happen isn't true you can chose not to agree and maybe they make the options feel that you don't have a choice but you do. Also the fact that it was a bad guy that first showed us that there are choices that can be made is interesting it wasn't someone pure of hart or strong or good it was someone who we would say is evil who made the choice.
3:25 that was just french king’s propaganda to get rid of knight templar, because of that time french king having really bad times about economy And he had shit ton of debt ( espacially to templar knights) when he got rid of templar knights he had both confiscated their property and most of his debt were settled ( because there was no one left to lend)
I would love to see a video on apostles that show up throughout different parts on the story. Like how the apostle that bit off guts' ar is later seen under griffiths rule as a battering ram, or how you can see many other familiar apostles during the eclipse
I don’t think people seem to understand this, but the apostles are still human at heart. They were just given immense power at the peak of their despair/anger, and while afterward they are obviously much more powerful than regular humans, they still act like narcissistic super powered humans would. They still have people they care about (if they didn’t sacrifice them all), they have likes and dislikes, they just have a new outlook on life as they know it.
honestly i dont mind more of these apostle origin stories, despite being the cruel monsters of berserk things like this shows how they were once human that were pushed into despair and became monsters in order to rid themselves of their living nightmares they gave up being human to get rid of all the pain a human is capable of feeling
@Mr. Faith that got me interested ,do you have any wiki or article that i can read ? that goea rounda that, i looked up a bit about how they were executed for heresy at the stake but i cant find why .Thank you
Personally one of my absolute favorite apostles other than immortal zod and the ferry from the Lost children ark I don't know why I enjoy this character so much to be honest maybe it's because he's part of my favorite Arc in the entire series maybe it's because I enjoy the way guts has a mental breakdown after fighting him. I enjoy how he is really the first apostle we ever see I enjoy how he is the entire reason that guts goes back to try and get Costco again there's just a lot of things that connect to this character that make me like him a lot.
I remember finding the slug count boring in my first read through (but after I saw the 98 anime) Now a days having read through twice, I also get nostalgia thinking back to him. And of course we are treated with stunning visuals by Miura. It was a good start. In fact if berserk started right at the golden age arc, I doubt so many ppl would watch. We want to see how the world goes bad as shown in slug count
I love the art, how the author depicts the apostles, and I thought to myself isn't that the demon that splits pippin into halve, you confirmed it thank you
Dude, the Templers did not really worship Baphometh. It's fanfiction put in circulation by their accuser the king of France who _coincidently_ owed them a large sum of money. No historian takes these wild accusations seriously and even many people of the time didn't. Let me guess Assassin's Creed or something... Absolute bruh moment.
"Honey,I'm home"The count said happily entering the house."Hey honey, how was work?"His wife asked, covered with a blanket visibly hiding something. "It was alright" the count said "Caught a couple of heretics today, the boss is thinking of giving me a raise, you know.Maybe after that I can take you on that trip you wante...Who are the men below our bed?"He asked viciously ripping of the blanket of her "God damn it Susie, we talked about this.I swear this is the last fucking time"He said "But honey you don't get it, they're here to fix the bed"(laugh track)the wife said. The count continoued "I've had enough,I'm calling our group of five lawyers"."No honey stop you don't ge"She said trying to stop him(fade to black,ad break)
Wait..he possessed Zondark via ear? 8:50 It really looks like the slug thing is going into his mouth? At least that what I thought My favorite part about the count is his extra mouth. It just does it for me. The creep factor just wouldn’t be as high without that extra mouth
When I rewatched the eclipse after reading the first 3 manga volumes the first thing I noticed was the count killing pippin, I recognize those nipple eyes anywhere
Sooooo the Templars were tortured until they “confessed”. All the money in my account to all the money in your account, that they really weren’t worshipping a goat. Torture doesn’t work.
the templars didnt worship baphomet, that, between other false accusations, was an excuse used by the king of france in order to get rid of a huge debt in gold that he had with the templar order´s bank, the last head of the templars confessed under torture, but then retracted, he was sentenced to be burned alive, and he retracted a second time, he got killed because he did not admit the accusation
Templars ware accused of king Philip IV, but it was only a plot to seize and confiscate their fortune. Pretty sure there is 0 proof that the Templar Knights worshipped giant goat man. Under torture everyone will confess to stop the pain, they described baphomet as a giant cat, 3 heads and so on :)
no wonder he anyoing in the game that chould be same said for the snake guy i love how he made a big inpact in the story it was bit surpricing to hear how he become like this i didnt even noticehim at first
You're confusing the Slug Count with the apostle "Vlad Tepes" from "Berserk: The Prototype" (from 1988). You'd be easily forgiven for confusing them since the episodes with the Snake Baron + Slug Count are basically a longer remake of that prototype episode, the one in which Guts sports his infamous "pirate" look, with the eye-patch, long sideburns and all... The chara-design of the Count in his human form is almost the same as Vlad's human form, but, unpopular opinion, I actually like Vlad's apostle form more.
While reading Berserk I can recommend listening to "Candlemass" (or other similar bands e.g. "Bell Witch"). Epic doom-metal is the perfect Berserk-sound-track \m/
Just passed this part yesterday for the 3rd time and I noticed that the count could have sacrificed Guys to the god hand if his despair and wish was for revenge, but since it was for not dying the sacrifice had to be his daugther. Also, I always thought that the behelit had to touch the owner's blood to activate but the first time it activates with the cpunt this doesn't happen
Sometimes I gotta wonder if freemasonry is embedded in all of berserk. It’s just so blatantly done well it makes me not care And can we discuss why Femto’s chest looks like two chics about to kiss? Was that on purpose or just me seeing things Edit: also, I love when you make video like these!! Monster manuals are my favorite. Could you make more videos about Slan? She’s just so hott
THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!! We don't know if the Knights Templar rly worshipped anything other than what they proclaimed before getting tortured for years. What we do know is that the King of France (Philip IV) had debt to pay back to them, and the Knights were EXTREMELY WEALTHY. He basically destroyed the Knights and dishonored them, made them "confess" via torture because it was convenient for him. It's important to remember that the Knight's grand master Jacques de Molay retracted his statements, he was burnt to death after spending close to seven years imprisoned. The Knights Templar were basically ACCUSED of "worshipping false idols", most certainly for monetary and other gains.
Just started reading Berserk and did anyone notice that the Zondark controlled by the count moves kinda like the parasites in Parasyte? Guess that’s where Parasyte got it from
