My gel sleeve has no odor although it also doesn’t breath. I was concerned about that but it doesn’t smell . I do have to take it off to dry my leg, because it starts to squish.
Hibiclens soap gets stink gone. It is sold at your pharmacy as a surgical prep type thing. It kills all stink causing bacteria. It’s also fantastic for armpits.
I had my lower left leg crushed by a forklift in 1988. There was no laser surgery back then. I had 6 surgeries and was in a cast for a year and a half. As I get older, the pain is getting worst. Everyone tells me to " cut" it off. Im like" you crazy?". They don't understand. Seeing your videos makes me think I did/ do the right thing by keeping it. Thank you for the videos
Got-ta what ...? As horrific as an appendix loss would be to me .. and the flashing that lost to those that trip on by may seem a little raw .. or is it real. I don't have too feel any way about her or it.
There has to be some kind of deodorant that kills off the yeast that is causing that smell. I was in bodybuilding and athletes use this same rubberized fabric to.lose water weight. Many women will recognize that smell from under their boobs after sweating and not changing right away.. In treatment of elders, it becomes quite the problem with sores that form wherever this yeast overgrowth occurs. We had patients with prosthetics in the clinic I worked in get these friction sores due to yeast based skin degradation. I just do not understand why this problem still has not been solved. So frustrating.
@wandasanders9043 - If we let these things get to us we won't be able to keep our sanity, I have 2 disc pressing on my spinal chord and the pain isn't sweet, worse part about it is that I have to take care of my mother with Alzheimer's and weight.
@@504carl💯 I've been there, done that and got myself all depressed about all the health issues and pain I suffer with, which I already have manic depression as is it. So I learned to just roll with it. Even becoming positive I still have my grouch days when I'm really hurting. I'm about to go to get a benign tumor removed. I'm hoping they don't find out it has anything cancerous because I'm sure they will test it to see regardless. Cancer runs in my family so that would suck! But I'm not going to let it get to my head though.
Is that how you view this? Hopefully you dont develop gastritus as u would be telling us about your nightly blanket sniffing in a short 😅..Offer us a solution.l then ill be impressed.

Dear girl (I’m 73-anyone younger than I is a girl. Sometimes even I am a girl!), may God continue to bless you with life and vitality, and your sense of humor-now THAT’s a priceless possession!
Dated a lady who lost a leg just above the knee and learned what you mentioned quick.... Still loved helping her out where I could and found it amazing how much tech gets put into prosthetics... Plus, learned it's a commitment from my end, as well as knowing when and how to let her do her thing. Love your videos, they are genuine, honest and, personally, kinda nostalgic.
Thank you I'm an amputee myself. It's true do deal with stink. It is more the silicone that smells more then the stump. . But the stump ends up smelling more like the silicone. .
I am so happy I found you ❤️ as of 5 days ago I had a right leg below the knee amputation due to a wreck last month..it's been scary and painful and I never knew you could ask so many questions about one body part! Lol thanks for making this alot less traumatic and inspiring me forward! Thank you for sending so much support and great advice! I appreciate all suggestions!
The more you get use to the new you so to speak you will learn you can still do almost everything that you use to just maybe a little slower and there is nothing that can stop you but yourself basically it's not how hard you get it hit it is how fast you get back up good luck things get better oh and I use degree deodorant to help with the sweat and smell lol good luck and keep kicking ass

She is adorable gorgeous young women have guts and courage and not many around these days I think we should call her gorgeous Good bless you dear 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’m a below amputee since I was a very young child , due to a gun accident. It’s encouraging to see people sharing videos. You’re a very courageous person . Much respect. Cheers 🇨🇦🇨🇦
as a grandmother of grown beautiful children. It always makes me so proud to see young people full of positivity! I’m speechless, gorgeous beautiful and funny.
@@Puglover130 English is not my first language🤭 so yes, I was talking about the beautiful young woman with the prosthetic leg & I assume her name is Jo. Thank you very much for the opportunity to clarify.
You are passing on great information. My orthopedic surgeon had to take half of my foot, he did say it might be the same as yours. Stay brave and strong. You are an inspiration. Thanks
I'm glad you try to relate to your sister's situation. Why don't you talk to your sister directly about it? I'm sure she will appreciate it a lot if you show interest in what life as an amputee means to her. Probably even more so than when you get the info from a stranger on the internet, whose situation, solutions and coping are probably a bit or a lot different to your sister's. You can also ask your sister how she wishes people would treat and help her. "Just ask for help if you need anything" is a very passive offer and leaves it to the other person to reach out to you when things are already rough. Asking "how can I help you / what do you need / what needs to change/improve to make things easier for you?" is much more helpful to people with a disability or chronic or mental illness and gives you the chance to directly help and leave a positive impact.
Thank you for saying this! This is fantastic advice for everyone in general. People don't realize how hard it is to actually ask for help. This opens the conversation up and shows you really care what the person actually needs.❤
Same leg, same equipment and I don't have the smell anymore. I rub antiperspirant after I wash it before bed. It's dry, doesn't smell and helps the gel liner stay in place.
Of course !!! No difference with a healthy foot ! It's not a disability issue but a hygiene issue faced by every person. Armpits and feet ...i use cologne after shower , alcohol 60% = face after shaving, armpits and feet before putting on socks . My oldest sneakers still smell good this way ..
I wash my husband's every day with baby wash. You have to wash your liner everyday. We also use products from the amputee store. We were told never use deodorant.
@@dagneytaggart7707 I was wondering that, too. One of my friends swears by it for a normal deodorant. I would think an antiperspirant would work also combined with hair removal. But you'd have to be careful about abrading skin with hair removal.
@@quinquiry People sweat at different rates. Don't assume if someone has a problem they are not being hygienic. Now that I am older, health issues cause my feet to sweat more and for the first time in my life I get stinky feet in the summer even if I'm keeping on top of it. (I rotate my shoes if they are not sandals.) One of my relatives never wore socks when we were young for this reason. I now understand the cotton soggy sock is miserable. I used to bowl with a woman who would be dripping wet from sweating at the end of the evening. This was a winter league so some of us started of with a fleece or jacket layer. At the end I would be pleasantly warm. Not a huge sweat like her.
@@magicmyst206 I wouldn't think looks matter when you're an amputee. People who've gone through amputation can suffer from post traumatic stress disorders, depression and even self stigmatization.
I use that exact same locking pin-style liner for my prosthetic, and I’ve never had to deal with it smelling bad. I wear a Swiftwick stump sock underneath, and use spray antiperspirant right before donning the prosthetic. One thing is for sure tho….. the feeling of relief/satisfaction/etc that I feel when I get to peel the liner off my stump at the end of the day is fucking amazing.
Many don’t know there are all kinds of different struggles amputees navigate. My hat is off to you all for the constant steady pace of life. What grace you possess💕
I had a Right leg BTK amputation 1.6 years ago. Your blocks of instruction and the details are so very informative I've got a U.S. ARMY service-connectioned disability. I PERSEVERED through 9 surgeries and 3 ankle fusions and after 17 years of excruciatingly pain I opted for the amputation. My prosthetic leg is one of the best things that ever happened to me. Thank you soooo much for these videos.
Borick acid is strong enough to kill bacteria and weak enough not to damage or irritate the skin. I use it in my footwhear in powdered form, at the end of the day my feet are wet due to perspirstion, but no odour.
My feet smells when I wear my work boots that doesn't breathe. Not be embarrassed or ashamed about your legs smelling. I think you are doing a great job of letting people know how everything is for a person with a prosthetic. Keep up the hard work 💪 alot of people are not as mobile as you are.

This lady deserves our admiration for having so much humor in the face of adversity when most of us complain about trivial and irrelevant stuff. We all should take lessons from her to make our lives meaningful.
Have you tried LUME ? You are such a reminder to not be too serious about oneself. We need to find humor and joy despite our problems. Thank you for being such a great example to the rest of us! 😂❤
@@imtheevilqweneif it’s scented you may be allergic. A lot of people use the unscented cuz the scented ones can cause that. Not sure if that’s the case for you. From what I read there’s not much in it. Mainly natural ingredients unless it’s scented.
I’m 62. When I was 18, I worked the summer before college at a Rax Roast Beef restaurant. They had me dress as “Beefy The Cow.” I had to wear a suit like the characters at Disneyworkd. This was in June, July and August. I stood on the sidewalk just out from the parking lot and waved at people to remind them of our grand opening. I was permitted inside every 20 minutes to get something to drink. But they didn’t realize I also needed to change my clothes I wore under that suit because they were drenched. So I had to bring several changes of clothing to swap out into in the bathroom. I worked 3 months like that. Before I left for college, I trained another person to take my place. They only lasted one day. They said no way were they going to stay inside that suit sweating like that. So I was the one and only Beefy The Cow for that restaurant. I understand what this young lady is talking about. PS I’m vegan now. 😊
Is it like with a broken limb, the smell you get underneath the cast, or some other type of smell? Sorry, don't mean to be nosy or disrespectful, just curious.
@@martaleszkiewicz5115 😂 its not 6 weeks in a cast rank no. That is eye watering. It can change from day to day depending on how busy/active one has been. Sometimes it will just about have a fruity smell to it. It can remind me of weird smelling peaches. It’s not a pleasant smell though. I guess the smell could be different for everyone. I imagine diet would effect the smell of ones sweat, which has stagnated in a hot sweaty environment all day. You could try glad wrapping your foot inside a sneaker to try to replicate it, I would think that should do it. Have a great day. Being an amputee saved me from a lifetime on crutches, I love my smelly stump it works hard and keeps me active.
@tinyhouseranch I’ve never heard of a thigh to chin brace. I looked it up on google && it showed a picture of a brace above the knee connecting right at the rib cage. What does the chin have to do with it? Not disrespecting just curious
You’re brilliant, girl. I’m a mom of a child with non typical limb, and she didn’t have such readily available information in her young girlhood. But times have changed- and I’m so appreciative of you and every single content creator who offers their perspective on this topic. Sending you ❤!
Just somehow stumbled into your page I love your attitude It can be one of the best parts of social media when other people help each other understand things or not feel alone and you're bluntness... Is sometimes really needed
As a composite engineer....small 3/32 or 1/16 multiple drilled holes on a pitch of 1/4" in that black cup would allow air in to the space of that rubber sock. If the sock was similarly pieced it could create an air path to cool...allow flow...reduce or remove the stale air.
As a licensed massage therapist, I often worked on a young mom, who made prosthetics. You should tell your techniques to a person like her. I had another client whose husband lost a leg after infection following a strike to his leg playing softball!! His prosthesis fit so badly. He was traumatized and never wanted to go in for another one. I hooked up the two people and she made him a great prosthesis! The two families became friends because they discovered they lived near each other. The woman making the prosthetics let them keep the appointment, even though a storm had shut power down and her door was locked when they arrived for the first appointment. I once massaged the prosthetist on a day our massage clinic was empty because the power was out. She had her phone for music and I had candles, including a row of tea lights down the hall. 🫶🏼🙌🏼
Yeah no. The reason these sleeves WORK is BECAUSE they don't have open air spaces, they essentially seal to our leg/skin, allowing the weight of the prosthetic to grip over the entire surface. You could drill all sorts of holes in the hard surface socket, but that is only going to weaken the carbon fiber and still not really cool off anything because there is ALWAYS a layer of silicone or other rubbery liner next to our akin. Any holes in the silicone liner will also cause friction & allow skin to Newell into the holes causing issues & breakdown. The concept is good if you don't know WHY these liners are made the way they are to do the job they do.
I just wanted to take a second to tell you how much I love your attitude, it is most infectious. I'm just love how raw you are and how you choose to carry yourself. 🙏
I never would have even considered this! Thank you for keeping it real and explaining things that most of us have no idea about. Your attitude is wonderful!!
Does it work on your stump sock? It would be terrible if the Lume deo made her leg not stick to the rubber like sock and it came loose. She specifically said to make her leg stick to her.....get it? I'm sure shes tried everything.
Man… I TRIED TO LIKE LUME. I bought all scents at once, of there cream odor blocker stuff…. And again… I TRIED really hard to like it, even trying it on multiple times to see if I could get past the stench…. But I couldn’t. lol. I’m sorry guys… but LUME… straight up smells like a pre teen mid puberty’s 2 week old ripe (3x worn in a row) stanky schweaty football socks, that have been left to fester and stay continually moist, approaching moldy, next to a mega damp shower towel that’s kept those confusingly wet yet crusty, to continue to marinate in bacteria heaven. LOL. So LUME has a base/undertone scent of 👆🏼 that nasty nonsense with an odd twist of Lavender (or whatever the other scents are). I can best explain it as if the straight up made a scent that comes from someone already trying to mask a grotesque foul stench already, but there lavender didn’t do the trick, it just mixed with the rotten odor lol
@@NoliNothisPermitereTeTerereMy wife and I have noticed a subtle odor that quickly dissipated, but nothing that in any way compared to what you described. 😬
CBD is a great suggestion you don't hear too often for these types of thing! They usually recommend it for anxiety but awesome to know it helps here too
Seems like YT keeps removing my replies about the cream and sweat sock. Nordic Goddess 1:1 500mg cbd cream and the sock are used after applying the cbd cream. I wear a silicone sleeve and the sock provides a layer of comfort and also collects the perspiration. The name brand is Swiftwick. Be sure to measure your stump for correct size. 😁
On one of the cut scenes from Anchorman, when describing the panther cologne , someone says . "it smells like the inside of a fake leg!". Having a prosthetic leg for over 35 years now, I felt that. Still laugh about it to this day cause those who know, KNOW!
😂 This made me smile. The closest thing I've ever experienced that might be similar, is when I broke my arm as a kid. By the time they were ready to remove the cast, the smell was unbearable! Bless you for sharing. This is one of those things that nobody would ever know about otherwise. 👍
This is just brave. I'm not an amputee and I don't know anyone who is and I have literally no clues why she's in my feed, but I have so much respect for her putting the facts out for others who need the community and the understanding. It's hard to get in front of a camera and display yourself so candidly.
Dude your energy is what gets me, I watch your videos whenever my body/mind wants to give excuses. You should be a life coach, Kudos to your will & positivity, stay strong!!!
I don’t know if you’ve ever tried a deodorant stone. What they are is a mineral stone that when wet will release some of those minerals. They do not prevent sweat, but they prevent the bacteria which causes those bad smells. Your sweat does not smell. What does is the byproduct of those bacteria feeding on your sweat. I’ve been using a deodorant stone for over 10 years and it’s barely used. despite the fact that I use it daily and I do not have a problem with odors anymore. I do hope that helps you because I’ve recommended it to others who have lost limbs and dealt with the same issue and it worked for them. It may not work for everyone. Bless you and thanks for being real about your issue
After 36yrs, of living with a BK amputation, I'v learned to live with it. I still worked (retired) and I still ride my Road King almost daily. Loved the video. 🇺🇸😎
I worked in prosthetic product returns department and quality control, and we accepted returned liners after up to 6 months of use. I can confirm the truth of this video 💯.
I hope you take this with the good natured humor intended. A job working in a prosthetic return department is an episode of "Dirty Jobs" if there ever was one.

Hi, Jo! Thanks for your posts! I'm a double amputee, and wear the same kind of sleeves as you. I had the same trouble with sweating, and in fact had heat rash problems as well. The Prosthetist recommended that I try prosthetic sock liners under the sleeve (right next to the skin), and it made a huge difference. The sock gets only a little damp, and is (of course) easily washed, and the sleeve is usually dry when I remove it. You've probably tried this already, but I thought I'd mention it, just in case.

My daughter wears a prosthesis, too. I used an alcohol spray of cherry almond scent I have purchased from Sally’s Beauty Supply. Other times, I handwashing it and let it air dry. With medical technology these days, you would think they would make something breathable for the skin.🤔💕
