Wow, they really slowed it down, i like it tbh, but it's missing the energy the old performances had. Wonder if they'll pull out Just Eyes And Mouth soon so we can hear how much they've changed it too.
@@pastywhiteboy9393 it's probably around the same tempo, I should've phrased my original comment better. It's much more quiet, calming even. I miss the chaotic energy of thom going crazy on the sustainer guitar during the "solo" sections. It's missing that at the very least.
Love this song to death! I like this Wall of Eyes version but man that other version from 2022 is so much funkier with thom on the telecaster (or was he on bass i dont remember...)
I think they're testing different versions to see which one sounds better, or probably just making different versions to play in different shows as Radiohead did with True Love Waits
prefer the old one but it would still be cool if they could put them together to make a better song. Does anyone else here prefer this version? just curious
First listen ever. Nhhhgh! I can catch them in August, but I'd rather have this type of venue than open air festivals and daylight. And they just churn out songs like it requires no effort.
@@kurtidiotequemoron my plan is throwing flowers with a card on it and I’ll write something sweet and perhaps also a question and then my e-mailadres but they’ll probably ignore it lol
I went to their Glasgow show last night and told my nephew who was also there that I would ask Johnny for his plectrum but needless to say I didn't bother lol
I agree but also disagree. Thom gets bored with repetition of his songs and the version we get on lps is often already stale to him and drained of vitality. He's always needed a producer who will force him into a corner and catch the moment of a song when it is in the inspirational stage... but he's always done the opposite and procrastinated over songs for years. BUT... Very often the recorded, deconstructed versions catch up with me down the road and I suddenly love them. And that is because by that time I have lived with the song for years as Thom had when he recorded it and find myself where he was then: where the deconstructed studio take is suddenly new and fresh. In some ways we are jsut behind the curve... the band took the whole journey, we are just getting snapshots.
Hmm I kinda like both equally for different reasons. I think this one is more interesting and fleshed out, but I miss the energy and weird guitar solos from the older one.
@@MicahBuzanANIMATIONI feel you dude ,they are both great. IMO This one is more structured and the original was a bit more chaotic. Dude yea! I miss that weird guitar solo it was like his guitar was talking
That's literally all Thom's music, including Radiohead. But the good thing is all the versions of various songs still exist, even if only in live form. Think of it less as 'losing' a version you liked and more like gaining a new version. People obssess too much about studio recordings being definitive but it doesn't matter. Thom has no idea really what to do with his music. As a longtime listener i've known that for many years. He has himself given examples such as Nigel Godrich pinpointing the core of a great song out of a 10 minute early dirge of Harrowdown Hill. Thom doesn't know what will land with anyone but himself. And then of couse he will get totally bored or dissatisfied with a song himself and dismantle it and reconstruct it.
@@Chinaboatman 100% agree, if you asked me what my favorite Radiohead songs were I'd have to mention the specific versions I like, whether from the recorded version, live version, or live version that differed era by era. What makes this different for me is that I've never heard an unreleased Radiohead song take a downgrade from one early live version to the next, though.
