I love this version, as others have said great job covering a male lead singer (Al Wilson) in this song. My impression of is that in your cover of this song it is done from the female perspective, being sung a bit softer and showing some of the lady's compassion towards the snake instead of (what I think is of the typical male singer of this song) from the male perspective of simply criticizing the woman's misguided actions. Bonus points for saying "you knew damn well I was a snake..." as the original lyrics intended instead of the sanitized 60's "darn".

You sang this in my favorite lower range of yours. I felt like I knew this song but don't know any Northern Soul. I didn't remeber Al Wilson singing this. I'll have to do a sesrch and try to figure out who sang the version I remember. I'm sure it'll be an m, oh yeah, I should have known that. You sounded great, Sarah.
