The Snake, the Farmer and the Heron is an old African folktale from the Hausa tribe, told throughout the northern regions of Nigeria and the southern areas of the Niger. It gained even greater popularity after being featured in 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene.
It’s a story about how water doesn’t flow uphill-about how kindness doesn't always beget kindness.
This is a retelling in my own words.

Thank you so much! 48 Laws of Power is great. I think you'd like The Laws of Human Nature even more. It's great. I don't have social media. I do post new stories fairly regularly to wordandsorcery.com, though. I just finished Ivan Tsarevich and the Gray Wolf yesterday, and Jack and the Beanstalk last week. There are more obscure African folktales there, too. And stories from all around the world.
