It's great to see that you're uploading videos again! While my coach introduced the step out, I couldn't figure out why I was getting so little separation. As it turns out, I was making the exact mistake you mentioned in the video. I'm looking forward to trying this out in practice. Would it be possible for you to make a video about doing the step out when looking to make a pass?
Gonna film 3 point ball protection soon. You might have a small lunge. Work on lunging left and right away from a defender instead of backward. keep your hips near the surface and lunge for distance. I’ll try to get some video for that.
fronting as long as the other players press the perimeter well. As a defender, you don't want the center to be able to snap directly into your chest. Anticipate the snap, rotate your shoulders and let the snap energy slide across your chest rather than push directly backward. Keep your hands out of the water to show the ref you aren't pulling back.
This actually incorrect, one leg needs to be down to get lift. To get separation you do need to jump over your hips, but should not lose balance by pointing both legs horizontally.
We don't use "lift" when talking about movements in water anymore. "Compression" and "drag" are appropriate terms and better explain how forces are applied. The video does include the transition to to a vertical lunge so I'm not sure if you got to the part where the bottom leg opens up underneath the body? We've worked on this movement with collegiate and professional players and balance usually isn't an issue after 10-15 reps. This isn't an easy skill but a little bit of practice will improve the motion pretty quickly
