If you like this movie and our channel, please subscribe: goo.gl/0qDmXe | The movie has two acts, the first taking place in the exotic locale of the Himalayas and the second occurring in Los Angeles, California. While the first act takes place in an undisclosed Himalayan country (presumably bordering India) the actors portraying the locals speak Japanese. The movie starts with a scientific expedition intent on collecting botanical samples, led by Dr. Frank Parrish (Paul Langton) and encounters difficulties when the wife of the expedition's chief guide is kidnapped. The guide, a sherpa named Subra (played by Teru Shimada), seizes the expedition's guns and takes control of the team when he is unable to convince Parrish to pursue the Yeti and save his wife. Parrish, a man of science, is skeptical of the Yeti's existence, put is forced to participate in Subra's march. Along with his fellow westerner (a photographer named Peter Wells, played by Leslie Denison), Parrish awaits his opportunity to overthrow the renegade sherpa. However, as the team draws closer to the Yeti, evidence emerges that begins to change Parrish's opinion regarding the creature's existence (such as the tell-tale "giant footprints"). Finally, the team makes contact with the snow creature, who hurls stones at them from atop his mountain refuge.
The expedition tracks the creature to his cave, where they encounter the creature, along with two other Yeti's - a female and young one. The team also discover Subra's wife, who is guarded jealously by the snow creature. Parrish forcibly prevents the enraged Subra from shooting the Yeti, reasoning that the creature is more valuable for science alive. This delays the capture long enough to enable the creature to create a cave-in (presumably to keep his family safe from the humans). However, the cave-in works against the Yeti, killing the female and young Yetis and knocking the snow creature himself unconscious. The cave-in also enables Parrish and Wells to take control of the sherpa's guns. Having regained control over the expedition, and successfully capturing a live Yeti, Parrish declares that he is intent upon bringing the creature to the U.S. where it will be studied.
The Yeti is eventually sedated and placed in a telephone booth-sized freezer. Trapped inside this icebox, the Yeti is transported to Bombay to be flown to California. In an odd geographic twist, the return flight heads west from India to California (via TWA) -- beginning the second act. Upon reaching Los Angeles, Parrish is greeted by reporters who have been made aware of the creature's existence. A U.S. Customs official informs Parrish that the admission of this creature to the U.S. has been made difficult by a newspaper article published by Peter Wells that refers to the creature using the term "man". The issue is raised whether the snow-creature is actually human and the officials decide to keep the creature in quarantine until an anthropologist can determine the question of the creature's humanity. It is during this delay at the airport's customs station that the snow creature manages to escape the ice box (which was apparently meant to confine him temporarily only). The snow creature roams the city, terrorizing a woman and finding refuge in the cool temperature of the city's sewers as well as meat-lockers (where it can also feed).
The police, aided by Parrish, manage to track the Yeti through the sewer system and, where the creature is caught in a roap mesh and grabbed by 5 men. As the creature resists it starts to choke one of the men through the mesh. One of the men shoots the creature once who then stops choking the man. There's a pause after the choked man had been released and then the man with the gun decides to shoot the rare creature with two more slugs just for good measure. Thus, one of the greatest finds of all time is dead.
---
Directed and produced by W. Lee Wilder, written by Myles Wilder, Paul Langton as Frank Parrish, Leslie Denison as Peter Wells, Taru Shimada as Subra, Rollin Moriyana as Leva
and Robert Kino as Inspector Karma.

This movie brings back such fond memories of childhood! Remember when there was only 3 channels on tv? On Saturday afternoon was the Creature Feature where we all watched Creature from the black lagoon, Snow Beast, Frankenstein and so many more!!! I would rather watch these than half the crap they try to pass off as entertainment these days!! My Aunt helped build the movie sets for a lot of these movies too! It really was movie magic back then!!
@elizabethgaspodnetich4322

@Jerry Polverino May Aunt lived in LA, Ca most of her adult life, all 90 years of it! She had a studio just around the Paramont building, but don't test me on that because it has been one hell of a long time ago!! When I got older I helped her in a few commercial sets. She did more than a few of those too. The last one I worked on with her was for a cigarette commercial so that should tell you something about how long it's been!!!!

@Jerry Polverino LOL!n Could you imagine how damaged our little brains would have been if they could use the special effects they have today in one of the movies we watched back in the early 60's or so?? Would have scared me right out of my little mind!! I remember all the channels too! CBS,NBC and ABC and once in a while there was a PBS station we could get if you played with the antenna just right!

mary smith - 😳 Me, too! In addition to everything else, I haven’t been able go outdoors at all for the last 2 weeks. We have several large wildfires burning in Colorado and we’re shrouded in heavy smoke, regardless of wind direction (much worse for those in California, of course). We’re having symptoms even indoors. Some of the fires are expected to burn until the snow puts them out in November. It’s so extremely hot and dry that more fires are an unnerving possibility. What next? Godzilla? Giant spiders? An alien spacecraft landing? Hang in there! ❤️

I thought I heard the leader of the Sherpa speaking Japanese, but I couldn't believe that they would resort to that. Japanese was not that unrecognizable to people outside of Asia after WW2, it would be ridiculous to think that the Sherpas speak it among themselves.

I guess the budget didn't allow for real Nepalese or Tibetan actors, though. The "natives" are speaking Japanese (as mentioned above). I guess at that time the makers of the film figured few people would catch on so they ran with it. None the less its still fun to watch for nostalgic sake alone. Thanks for the post.

Teru Shimada as the rather nasty Sherpa. Shimada came here in the early 30's and had a very successful career into the 70's. The cave they took refuge in wasn't in the far flung Himalayas, but in Bronson Canyon, just behind the hill where the Hollywood sign is located, The location has been used in literally hundreds of film and TV productions... Of course all of the Sherpas are speaking Japanese...Most likely all American citizens from LA.

Can’t we just enjoy something without bragging about how we might find it better than what’s popular. Congrats, you watched a 60 year old movie it doesn’t make you Jesus Christ. Pretending like this sci-fi b movie churned out on a shoestring budget in a month with antiquated ideas about the “natives” is better than a modern movie because it’s older is just being ignorant.

You know, they are always so negative about unknown things in these old movies. I would think in real life they would want to know more of the details of that mysterious thing they might have seen, not just blow it off and say go back to sleep. If I was going to climb a high mountain and do a ton of hiking I really don’t think I would be carrying a case of whiskey with me. There is an old story I saw on some documentary of someone climbing Himalayas where one evening the guy was feeling like he was being watched and kept watching back down the hillside. Then after gazing down the mountain watching for any movement a large boulder not very far away ( what he thought was a boulder ) just kind of got up and started running away down the hill.

While I enjoy watching the oldies, I have to point out that if these various sites were bothered by the "dislikes," then both 'like' and 'dislike' should be removed. Why should only those who "like" things have a say? Gives a false picture to those who put things on RU-vid, and shows a serious lack of maturity of those who make childish comments on the people who simply dislike certain things.
