I get ya. I watched Netflix dilemma. I immediately deleted my account. I’ve been inactivating it and back and forth for months. Just have had it. So distressed watching the craziness and violence erupting. I’m All about helping spread the word but I guess face to face
Just watched The Social Dilemma documentary and then came here. Probably the most profound documentary I have ever seen. On par with "On Killing" by Grossman as a cautionary tale. Have been discussing these issues with neighbors but we had problems articulating what we were all sensing. The Social Dilemma put words to what we are all feeling and will allow us to establish an action plan. Thanks for posting this video... excellent supplement to the documentary.
On board with you. It puts a thread through all the fragments of awareness, to understand , at least with a rough picture, the enormity of what is happening around us. It comes down to human values, and not costs. A must see!!!

Part of the problem with social media and its incursion into how we think and interact is that no analysis of human thought and interactions, however thorough, can be complete. There is at least one other language of communication that is forever unavailable to conscious awareness and scientific analysis. Three pieces of evidence follow: 1 The transmission of the message of “I am sexy and desirable” from man to woman has never been completely decoded although men have pondered for millennia how to inspire sexual interest in women. Some criteria are known, such as money, various physical characteristics, some forms of assertive behavior; but a complete analysis of how that message is transmitted that does not rely on examples and inference from them has not been written. 2 Imagining more than three linear dimensions is impossible, and doing so would be helpful when trying to understand general relativity. 3 Per rebel eye doctor William H. Bates, in his writings a century ago, when nearsighted children get together to practice his recommended visual retraining exercises to try to cure their nearsightedness, they make better progress as a group than when they practice those exercises alone. The children somehow communicate with each other about how to see differently. Social media engineering must rely on what can be perceived and analyzed; it cannot react to anything else. As such engineering continues to develop and social media continue to change, the neglect of the missing language will induce more and more distortion in how social media are provided to us consumers. Mental-health across society will thereby deteriorate, and professionals not aware of this cause will pout and fuss without making any progress despite being paid to manage the predictable anxiety and depression. The mental-health profession now includes a dramatic refusal to consider the concept that what someone expects someone else to feel (a parent expecting a child to enjoy a gift, for example, or a person of dark skin to have liberal political beliefs) may differ from what that person actually feels. Evidence is that my commentary in the (AAPS) Medical Sentinel winter 2004, in which I proposed that if parents impute beliefs to their children then autism is more likely to occur than otherwise, encountered hate emails and insulting comments on the internet; but it never generated a scholarly refutation. I stand by that theory. Note also that part of the definition of autism in the DSM-V, the recognized standard by which mental illness is diagnosed, mentions inability to get along in a group as a criteria of autism and includes no comments whatever about the possibility that such a group may itself be dysfunctional or oppressive. = = = = = Now on to how groupthink can directly destroy our economy and how social media are complicit in this process. It’s easy to say that Facebook is an autonomous corporation, not owned or controlled by anyone else. It’s also easy to say that Google-RU-vid comprise another autonomous corporation, also not owned or controlled by anyone else. But that assessment is naïve. Corporate stock nowadays tends to be owned by investors, mostly mutual funds or pension funds or union welfare funds, that own stock of many different corporations in many different industries. If a social media corporation decided to overhaul its protocols so that recommendations and other characteristics were to align with Tristan Harris’s suggestions, and somehow that corporation would have increased or at least not decreased profits, then the shift in thought patterns would make consumers less amenable to advertising on social media and elsewhere. That shift in thought patterns would reduce consumption of what other corporations produce, which the social media corporation could not care less about, except that its stockholders will suffer reduced profits from other corporations, so the stockholders will complain nevertheless. Interlocking ownership of corporations, facilitated through mutual funds and other arrangements by which individual ultimate stockholders are not the people responsible for choosing the corporations invested in, thereby induces large corporations to contrive to maximize _all_ consumption and not merely consumption of their own products. “The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.” Here, we note that when vigilance disappears in the context of personally choosing stocks to buy, liberty disappears with it as the coalition of large corporations contrives to maximize consumption overall. This analysis needs to be made public.

I have no doubt these entities are highly protected to prevent such a thing from happening. However, if we were to pre-adventure such an occurrence many people would panic to varying degrees. They would do so because, as the documentary identifies, most people are addicted to social media and/or their devices. Think about it, how many people do you know could honestly put their phone down and not look at one notification for just one day. Ask yourself, honestly, could you? I don't know one single person and the only reason I can say I can is because of my occupation I deal with sometimes weeks without a data connection of any kind. If my occupation were different and I had constant access to the internet I doubt I would be any different. I know I wouldn't be because when I am home I make conscious decisions to make myself put my device away and enjoy the world i.e. people around me. The challenging part of that is I have to talk then into putting their devices away as well. It's really terrible what we've allowed technology to do to us. Maybe, just maybe, Ted Kaczynski was right about technology and just used the wrong methods to bring his message to the public.
I'm at minute 22 and I'm still waiting to hear him draw direct a line between what the AI is doing and the actual people and corporations who wrote the programming for the AI. He seems to be deliberately maintaining that distance. The answer is to have a full understanding of what's been done to us and then to make these tech giants shut it down. Why are we looking elsewhere? I'm clicking off now.

Nothing new: people were distracting themselves with whatever is possible since forever... Going home from bullying peers is RARELY safe, since parents apply violent parenting techniques (verbal or any) every day since... forever... Now there is something “new” to blame for their absence of proper parenting... 🤦🏽♀️ Jumping suicide and selfharm statistics are the result of having even more messed up parents than before. Trying to blame it on anything else IS just the usual way of avoiding responsibility (which is the example being passed from generation to generation...)
"Conspiracy theory" is a highly polarizing and demeaning term, that conveys huge amounts of personal bias; please find a better, less insulting & biased way of referring to incorrect ideas (the 2 terms are not synonymous & good citizens watch their govts, if they care). Regulat citizens are charged everyday w all sorts of REAL conspiracies so please stop being dismissive to those of us who are smart enough to realize our govts are run by those same, exact, daily conspiracy committing beings
If you do not first extinguish the evil influences of RELIGION around the world, this kind of high-minded approach has no chance at all. Religion profits from division and from everything that human degradation causes...it is the 800 lb gorilla in the room but NOT in the discussion. Without addressing that DIRECTLY, it will sabotage and destroy ANY attempts to move humanity towards a better / brilliant future.
