Very nice presentation of your hunt. Those of us who watch your videos have a little idea how much preparation and thought went into the details of this adventure. I remember the bit you did on arrow speed vs poundage at the finger and the choice you made on the bow you used here. Such a pure and honest traditional archery channel. i always watch your videos i appriciate the time and skill you put in to making them i have always been so undecided about my feelings on hunting i guess i am to used to buying my meat from supermarkets where no thought goes in to where my meat comes from i think like many it feels easier and guilt free . even though i know it is a worse fait for the animals at a slaughter house . i think i would like it more if i got to hunt and eat my own food . bow hunting of any kind is illegal here in england even for vermin . i have just booked my first traditional bow lesson at a local club with my daughter but i think it is a good sklill to learn and bonding over a shared interest is good to there are so many videos on youtube about what bow to get could you recommend a good first recurve bow and what lb should be good for beginner up to intermidiate use . many thanks ian
@peterjuulsgaard
@peterjuulsgaard 2 года назад
To get started I would chose something light, like 35 pounds or so. Get a mentor to help make the arrows fit the bow, which are some of the most important things, to get the good experience from the start. Pick forexamble a Samick Sage which are a take down bow. That means you can change the limbs to heavier poundage as you progress. Bodnik Bows have Nice take down models as well, it all depends on your budget. Thanks for watching the videoes, and good luck on the journey.

No it should not make a difference wether your broadhead turns up side down, or horizontal. But for some folks it makes a difference because of what they see, looking down the arrow, aiming

@peterjuulsgaard
@peterjuulsgaard 2 года назад
@@jimlahey5623 wether a gun is more precise depends on the shot distance. This Bull was shot at 14 meters in the right spot. With a rifle you could do it at 200 meters. The reaction is the same wether you are using a gun or arrow. Big game are running 150 meters in seconds, before they are collapsing. On the other hand! This Bull have had 8 good years of life living free among it’s own species. Not like a cow in the slaughter house, which have lived in captivity the whole life.
@jimlahey5623

@@peterjuulsgaard ye, you are right. Do you think 60lbs is just enough for hunting for game like deer or hog? Do you increase power of bow to some point?
@peterjuulsgaard
@peterjuulsgaard 2 года назад
60 pounds can shoot most animals out there. I was using 50 pounds on this video. However! Arrow weight is more important, along with shot placement of course. Type of broadhead and arrow is also a factor, that comes before pounds. Deer would be no problem with 60 pounds
@SwissFiveNine
@SwissFiveNine 2 года назад
Hi Peter. I don't want to be a spoilsport, but what exactly is the sense hunting on your trip to South Africa and what is just commerce? What's the appeal of shooting a wild animal at a waterhole from a camouflaged location? I have followed your videos with interest. But what you deliver here as an archer is just pathetic. Hopefully the meat will sting your throat if you were able to export it from South Africa. It's a shame, I thought you weremore responsible, more empathetic, more connected to nature, but that... no thanks. Greetings from the heart of Europe to those who have higher ethical standards than shooting down an animal at a waterhole to order.
@peterjuulsgaard
@peterjuulsgaard 2 года назад
I am respecting your oppinion. But I cant really see any difference in ethics. It would probably have looked better with a rifle at 200 meters, or a Compoundbow at 70 meters but not at the water, right? I dont know? We are slaugthering million of cow’s and pigs all the time. We where eating some of the meat down there, and it actually tasted very good. I am not feeling more sorry for cute, nor beautiful animals, than I do for regular farm animals. But I’m always following the law’s of the country or place I’m in, and I do what I can to make the kill as clean and quick as possible. Thank you for watching
