The way its head moves while eating is comical to begin with, add the fancy violin music at the end and it is hilarious. I went from feeling like “this thing is terrifying” to “this thing is ridiculous, I love it”

They’re not Spiders, or Scorpions, but in a category of their own. When my brother was in the army, they used to follow the troops shadows when they where marching, which made it look like they where chasing them! I’ve seen one of these things kill a Tarantula in a tank in seconds! Nasty little things, but a marvel of nature.

They aren’t spiders nor scorpions, they’re solifugae! They’re arachnids, though, so they’re related!!!!.

Although intimidating, they actually keep away many common household pests, especially if you live in a dry desert environment.

Yeah these little guys are so fast. It's for sure the fastest moving land insect I have ever seen. One came charging on my bed before I was about to go to sleep. I smacked it. It played dead for ten minutes. I was sad after I found out they are not poisonous because I thought I killed it. But I took off and now its somewhere in my room. Hunting moths or whatever it eats. I live in high desert and its moth season and the moths have been waking me up but now that I have a micro cheetah in my room I think I'll be able to get some sleep if I can get over the fact it looks like a little monster.

Their mouths are oddly vertebrate-ish, they even chew...
@colbyelisabeth

Most Arachnids "chew" it's just too small to see happening with most of them
@brianisme6498
@brianisme6498 4 года назад
Colby Elisabeth what about spiders? Don’t they suck the liquid out the digested fluids of their prey and not chew
@colbyelisabeth
@colbyelisabeth 4 года назад
@@brianisme6498 that's why I put "chew" in quotes. It's not like a spider just bites once and that's it, they bite it and definitely bite in a few other places but yes spiders may be the one exception to that motion in all *eleven orders of arachnid. It's all about breaking the exoskeleton to get inside so a spider has much sharper teeth, look at all of the other arachnids and you'll see the same motion as in this video and it's not chewing and doesn't need to be compared to vertebrates as if vertebrates are the standard of what all animals do

These little dudes are awesome! They have no venom but if you put one up against a tarantula, even one slightly smaller than the spider, the solifugae will usually win and eat the spider. They are little killers! Here in Cape Town South Africa we don't get the big ones but we get small grey ones that look like they have feathers. They are super fast and will eat anything up to twice their size! Further North they get bigger and bigger and are called red romans or sun spiders.

They got banned in fighting contests between soldiers on the African front during WW2. They were just too good.

South Eastern Washington, here. Near the dunes in the Pasco area we have plenty of "Sun Spiders" .... they used to infest the former Coinstar regional office.

From Wikipedia: "Malleolus (plural: malleoli) is a fan-shaped chemoreceptor or racquet organ, an array of which are carried in pairs on the ventral or undersides of Solpugidae. They are the counterpart of pectines in scorpions, and modified walking limbs in the uropygids and amblypygids. Most species have 5 pairs of malleoli on the ventral surface of the fourth pair of legs of both sexes, while juveniles and other species have 2-3 pairs." As mentioned above, scorpions have organs called pectins, but these are not located on their legs. Instead they are their own appendages.
