My theory for why all the songs are different genres is broadening children's musical horizons because, remember, MLP is made for kids. If they add a wide variety of different songs with different genres, kids will be exposed to those genres much earlier then they likely otherwise would, giving them an idea of their tastes.
No it's varied because that's how Lauren Faust wanted it. She wanted a show that could appeal to as many people of all ages as possible. That's why even at the start each pony was vastly different so more people could relate to at least one. Also why the show takes on more mature themes, such as dealing with adult day to day life, or the struggles of college life.
i wanna briefly mention that, while the show was *marketed* towards kids, its original audience was actually never just for kids, as stated by Lauren in an interview; it was meant to be enjoyed by everyone of all ages who may inevitably watch the show with the children or younger siblings who would come across the show themselves via Hasbro's marketing The show also aged with its audience, with themes more relevant to kids in season 1, to a mix of junior high/high school struggles present in seasons 4-6, and from there some themes become clearly towards adults (as in things children would NEVER be able to relate to until they're practically past college, e.g. a guy is trying to settle in with a new life with another woman but struggles to get along with her child who does not want to move on from her dad)
@@6-dpegasus425 The children marketing is all Hasbro selling toys. DHX and Lauren made the show relatable to an older audience and one of the reasons Lauren Faust left is because Hasbro wanted to dumb down the show and make it more kiddy-like to which DHX eventually refused to do.
Okay but trixie's song, "tricks up my sleeve" is criminally underrated and I'm still mad that they cut it short in the movie. Most people don't even know there's a full version! The movie cuts it off before it even gets to the best part! I'd love if you reacted to it so it would get some more attention.
@@fnafgurljj0743 well that's because they aren't the dazzlings, those were the sirens in their necklace's From lore hints what I get is the actual three girls got possessed by them, and even though they miss the singing power they're trying to make their own music
Rebecca is the one who sings for Twilight and also voices Sunset. So anything singing between the two of them is Rebecca singing with herself. Fun mindblow.
"The spectrum of genres we've gotten has just been overwhelmingly large" Bear in mind that these are all composed by the same guy too (although the lyrics are usually at least initially written by the episode/movie writer). MLP fans recognize Daniel Ingram for excellent quality, but we don't talk much about how ridiculously versatile he is too.
The dazzlings are so good, not just at singing. they manipulated an entire school including the teachers. even if they did use magic, it still impressive for only 3 people. they almost won against the rain booms as well, if not for sunset. their singing makes them so much better adding onto everything.
"Friendship Through The Ages" is honestly my favorite Equestria Girls song and I'm so happy you reacted to it. It honestly feels like an anthem not just for Equestria Girls but for MLP as a franchise and Bronies as a fandom. It just unfortunately doesn't get as much attention, mainly cause it's from Equestria Girls (And an Equestria Girls short at that.) Also I'm with you, Anything the Dazzlings do is Pure Platinum!(Because Gold isn't good enough) It's such a shame they only have 4 songs.
There is actually 2 more songs by the Dazzlings that idk if youve heard but one is from the movie again called "Under Our Spell" and another is from an extra short called "Find The Magic"
Yes more EQG reactions! i never get tired of watching these, thank you for making our day once again Matthew! the songs in EQG Rainbow Rocks are just the best the Dazzlings never failed to sing a absolute banger villain songs! that's one of the many reasons why the Dazzlings instantly became fan favorites for people in the community!
The main series has more fantasy/action and bigger story arcs. Equestria Girls started out in a similar way, but because of the school setting it eventually became more about smaller scale stories, so it has more shorts and slice of life stuff ^^
I love Friendship Through the Ages a lot. It's a short song but it goes through six genre changes, and each of them pays homage to popular music and styles of the decade it is in! Twilight has 40s, Fluttershy has 50s, Rarity has 60s, Rainbow Dash has 70s, Apple Jack has 80s, and Pinkie has 90s. It's not a perfect recreation of those eras' sounds or styles, but it's still very nice! :D And that high section at the end of the song was of course Rarity!
On your opening comment about MLP songs, I suppose that's a testament to us as a fandom. Even though the series is over and most assume we're gone, we still hang on and love to watch people enjoy the content that pushed us to love it.
Just based on the song (not its effect on people, but the lyrics) I'm siding with the Dazzlings. Allowing yourself to compete with others from time to time is way healthier than everything always having to be harmonious
Friendly competition isn't the same as not being harmonious with people. In fact its more likely to be harmonious because its friendly. there's not the negative emotions around it as its not like a fight and you still care about the person you're "battling", so you are able to feel the positive connection with them.
@@sillyface6950 yeah very fair, been a while since ive seen the movie but from what i remember the dazzlings were less focused on competition and more focused on causing infighting and arguments
My favourite EG song is definitely 'Shine Like Rainbows', the harmonies just make you melt. Though if you want to listen to this, you have to listen to the album version, as it hits harder.
FRIENDSHIP CARRIES ON THROUGH THE AGES- I HAVENT LISTENED TO THAT IN YEARS IT USED TO BE MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE CUZ IT REMINDED ME TO CHERISH WHAT I HAVE WHILE I HAD IT AND MADE ME CRY EVERY TIME
0:54 That's actually Sci-Twi, the Twilight of that current World, which means if the other Twilight crossed through the worlds, there would be a lot of confusion (although that is what happened at the end of one of the movies if I recall correctly)
U should totally react to that song when twilight gets trapped by tempest, my bad I forgot what I was called. Upon typing this I have remembered that it's called open up your eyes
Fun fact: when the "Other Side" video was first released it i kinda gave people the impression that it's suggestive you may not have seen it that way Mathew but if you observe closely enough you'll understand why people thought that, because the poses that Rarity made while wearing that jumpsuit is one of the reasons why.
The Sirens have one last song and its called Find the Magic. It's a sad but hopeful song especially if you watch themusic video. I cant recall if you've listened to this one yet but The Magic Inside of You is a really great one and its sung by Lena Hall!
This show literally made my childhood- honestly you should react to some my little pony songs (from the G4 show) there are a lot of those and they still hold up today :) The last song in this video actually made me cry when I first saw it, it’s probably because I grew up watching these characters and it sort of felt like an ending
pinkie was holding a Ukulele in that scene because that music video is a mix up of different scenes from different episodes and that scene was from something else, pinkie plays the drums in most songs
With equestria girls there is more than just the movies. A lot of the songs that seem to contain a whole story (if not all of them) are probably one of the shorts. So everything within those videos is the whole context, and so its different from movies songs where most of the context is probably within the dialogue of the film rather than the songs.
Friendship is Magic and Equestria Girls music tend to have god-tier harmonies. All the singers work great together, and I've never heard so many unique voices work well together. There's a tendency for each character to have their own unique musical styles and sometimes singing roles. This is most notable with Fluttershy. She's very shy, and they represent that by putting her as backup vocals most of the time, rarely giving her the spotlight (as she is not comfortable in the spotlight). She still provides a ton of value to the cast's singing even from the background though - most of the time she is the one doing all those beautiful higher pitched harmonies that you keep noticing. In any MLP song, every singer is essential for making the song work. All the harmonies made by overlapping unique melodies work extremely well, and because they are different melodies, depth would be lost even if you removed one voice. The music doesn't include the entire cast for the sake of invluding the cast. The music is written around every voice that is involved, and every piece is important.
battle of the bands is my personal favorite equestria girls song. it's so catchy. i do have it in a playlist and casually listen to it haha. it's so weird hardly anyone has reacted to that one, though!
Battle of the bands also has an older demo version of the song that was replaced by this one for the movie but its still pretty fire if you want to listen to it just search battle of the bands demo on youtube
Fun fact: At the end of Rise Up! you can see that almost everyone got different types of A's, and tbh they all lined up with my expectations Sci Twi got an A++ Sunset and Rarity got an A+ Flutters and Pinkie got an A And RD and AJ got an A-
I would definitely recommend you to react to Songs from Centaur World. Some are more silly than others, some are absolute bangers and just... ugh, they are amazing
Short story, there are two Twilights, the pony one who ducks in during the first couple films and then an actual human one introduced in the third. She's the one wearing glasses, and she's more of a scientist
some of my all time favorite eqg songs are: right there in front of me, acadeca, legend you are meant to be, and tricks up my sleeve :) idk how popular those are but u should give 'em a listen sometime
If theres another thing thats absolutely stunning about MLP and EG other than the music, its the outfits. Rarity is an amazing dressmaker honestly, and the amount of sparkle is just awesome
I kept waiting for Matthew to mention the whole through the ages thing. Where they were not only singing in different genre's but different time periods.
There’s SO MANY amazing songs from the Friendship is Magic series, as well as the cinematic movie that I don’t think you’ve done yet! I’d love to see you react to more of those ✨
Rise up has low stakes because it's a stand alone short, and those do tend to be way more slice of life-y than the movies and specials. Also, sunset isn't really studying throughout the music video because although she doesn't look as stereotypically nerdy as twilight, she is absolutely just as big of a nerd, so she already knew the material. In the last shot you can even see that with the exception of rarity (who's also really smart) twilight and sunset are the only ones who got an A+
My song suggestions from MLP Equestria girls: - Music to my Ears - ACADECA - The Midnight in me - Dance Magic - Shake Things Up - Find the Magic - True Original
There's a song featuring Sunset Shimmer solo you should check out called My Past is not Today. Heavy on the redemption theme. Rebecca Shoichet voices the character and sings for her, and I especially love her voice!
If you haven’t done it already another song by the Dazzlings is Welcome to the Show! It’s one of my absolute favorites and the harmonies are really good!
please, please, PLEASE listen to Right There in Front of Me! it’s the end credits song to Friendship Games, and i genuinely think it’s one of the most underrated and under appreciated MLP songs, both for Equestria Girls and for the main series.
I don't remember which Dazzlings songs you haven't listened to, but the full list is: Battle (of the Bands) Under Our Spell Welcome to the Show (with Main 6) Find the Magic
You could react to the dazzlimgs, find the magic and then also to the animatic version that has an alternative demo of the song, that let's you hear it in a less children's show way. Both are fantastic, I recommend watching the final version first and then the animatic afterwards to not spoil it.😊
If you wanna listen to some more Rainbooms (the mane 7) songs, here's a list of really good ones: Hope shines eternal Shine like rainbows Get the show on the road Good vibes Legend you were meant to be As for the Dazzlings (the sirens), another song that you haven't listened to yet is Find the Magic. They sing about trying to adjust to ordinary human life after being defeated, and it's really nice to see their less-villainy side. You should check out both the official music video and the animatic.
Tfw he didn't even notice the visual reference to Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band or the one to Bohemian Rhapsody, or how the visuals were changing through different time periods of music as well as genres.
so so much seconding all the comments telling you about midnight in me and we will stand for everfree! they're so good! also "what more is out there" (i can't remember if you already did that one specifically though haha)
13:13 Not sure why these were the clips selected for the music video but in the original scene for this song, Pinkie Pie is playing the drums and they are performing on stage.
I love your reactions. You should react to MLP fandom songs. There is a creator by the name JYC Row who makes amazing songs. The few i would recommend are Final Eclipse, Aqasha, Goddess of Destruction, Dialga's Legend and Tempora's Requiem. No famdom makes better music than the MLP fandom. I believe he is still hidden as a creator and being seen by out would take him to the next lvl.
YESSSS. JYC ROW, PRINCEWHATEVERER, 4EVERFREEBRONY. Final eclipse, together against the sisters, elemental, solidarity, ghost in the sun, so many I can’t even name them all.
hey! Maybe you could also listen to the demo versions of mlp songs that didn't make it to the final cut , some of them are very different from the final version and that's really interesting (luna's future, invisible and free the magic for exemple )
the first song you reacted to (i just started the video so idk the rest) it isn't from any of the movies, hasbro just released music videos and shorts for the funsies, so that's why is so trivial in comparision w the plot of the movies
would absolutely LOVE for mathew to react to every equestria girls movies end credits songs !! “A Friend for Life”, “Shine Like Rainbows”, “Right There in Front of Me”, and “Hope Shines Eternal” are all so elevated in vocals and harmonies, I think he would really love them ! :)
You should listen to Spikes solo Changling can Change from MLPFim I curious to see your reaction to Spike singing since he never really had a part in any of the songs
I know you've been listening to songs from musicals, so if you loved Micheal in the bathroom from be more chill, you should check out the Percy Jackson and the lightning thief musical, particularly the tree on the hill, it's the same actor! (George Salazar) : )
I'd love to see you reacting to : -Let it Rain (Sunset Shimmer) -Find the magic (The Dazzlings) -My little pony girls Credits (Unreleased song) -Friend for life (Equestria Girls) They're so underrated, no one ever asked for these songs but they're amazing!!!
Well, I can say personally that it never stopped surprising me. Like the DBZ fight in season 4, or how the lesson of the final season is somehow that some people are beyond redemption.
