absolutely. that sort of female jazz singer style that plays with and flexes the vocal idiosyncrasies of the individual singer is really one of the globally unique/noteworthy cultural products of the 20th century, a real authentically american vocal tradition that lana is calling on way back then even. she’s still making songs in that style to varying degrees on each album and even the highly produced pop tracks act as a sort of necessary balance against the careening old hollywood vibey swan songs with all sorts of wacky old school vocal runs … not so clearly melodic as todays standards of pop music but her songwriting is clearly very vocally driven. ive noticed those tend to be the songs that lana wrote herself you can usually tell - the couple of vocally driven tracks written for the vocal’s rather than a snappy melody that’ll stick in your head and stay in the radio charts, closer to the formula of swan songs of my grandmother’s era 100 years ago than the pop producer formula tracks engineered in a lab by jack antonoff and his elves to maximize dopamine release to your synapses at the precise moment the bridge begins - half kidding lol. jokes aside tho theyre not the big album singles or music video fodder but im always pleased to hear her return to form with that old school americana jazz singer ethos. bring back more music that accentuates individual vocal quirks and as you said the soul of the singer that is revealed in its own individual character, the music driven by rhe vocal performance - 100% appropriate for the likes of lana.

Actually Gaga had dropped bob which was Gaga’s manager and Lanas mentor, bob himself talks about how he has no hard feelings and he loves Gaga but she bailed on him and never gave him a penny for it which led him to becoming poor, he also said that he thinks Lana wouldn’t write that ever about Gaga but I mean this video and that song says otherwise, Lana and Bob both would openly talk about how weird and mysterious it was that Gaga got huge so fast
