The Sonic Unleashed Day Stages are MEDIOCRE....

To be fair, i actually like the inclusion of the limited boost in SD Unleashed. It encourages you to figure out the best times to use it in the levels on order to get those good times for the S ranks you talked about. I also really like the inclusion of the action chains, i wish those were in all the boost games, it fits so well with the gameplay style

Sonic Unleashed for the Wii was actually my first exposure to Unleashed since I didn’t have an Xbox 360 at the time. Fast forward to today, I still vastly prefer the Xbox 360 version of Unleashed, but the Wii version holds a special place in my heart. I do still like it for what it is. Sonic Unleashed for the Wii has some pretty cool ideas such as exploring different parts of the locations compared to the HD game. Like as mentioned in the video, exploring the ice temple and catacombs of Cool Edge in Wii compared to running across glaciers in 360. And while the stage layouts in Wii are a downgrade compared to 360, I do think they are still well designed for how Sonic controls on the Wii game. Both the day and night stages. Although the missions can be tedious and would’ve been far better as bonus content than mandatory. And having the sun and moon medals be end of stage bonuses and not mandatory to complete the game are also a nice change. Overall, Sonic Unleashed for the Wii isn’t as good compared to its 360 counterpart, but it’s by no means a bad game either. At least in my opinion. And I’m glad it exists.

The wii levels lack most of the insane spectacle of the hd version, obviously, since its a wii game, but the gameplay (excluding jungle joyride, they did that level dirty) i find way more engaging, and it absolutely makes up for it for me. In the hd version, peak as it is, the gameplay eventually just boils down to press the button at the time like a rhythm game a lot of (but not all) the time. Thats why one of my hottest takes is that rooftop run is one of the weaker levels in that game, as it is particularly guilty of this. Unwiished is much more steering based, hence the open level design and it has much less automation and way more 3d in it. I wouldnt go as far as to call them better, but most are (in my opinion) on par with the hd version. And in not even good at the game, having only played with the motion controls that it was designed around

Sonic Unleashed is for sure a great Game and I really enjoyed the Game. The Day Stages are really good and the stages make you react to stuff really quick. The difficulty in the Day Stages are really good and I really like how Unleashed does its Day Stages by getting ideas from the real World. My favorite Day Stage in Unleashed is Rooftop Run and I love Rooftop Run so much, and I always replay Rooftop Run all the time. While always Great video MrNeedleMouse)

That being said, 3 things: 1: The Unwiished version was made with the intent of being played on weaker software, so directly comparing them is a bit unfair. 2: The boost is a tool that you should use when you see a straight line or if you know the level layout. For example you can use it for quick turns in the really big rooms. 3: Yeah the missions sucked and they should've added Skyscraper Scamper and Savanah Citadel.

I fell for the bait but jokes aside both versions have their upsides. Given the hardware restrictions, SD did a good job in still trying make it like the HD. I finished both versions and I agree that SD version has its level design flaws but the progression is faster. SD still has the easier Eggmanland tho so props to SD for that.

I don't agree at all tbh. The limited boosts in Unleashed force you to manage your boosts and think more carefully about when and how to boost, whereas in Unleashed SD you pretty much keep the boost button held at all times and just have to react to obstacles as they come. Unwiished also has much more interesting 3D design. A lot of the 3D sections in Unleashed HD are just hallways or awkward platforming. Not only does Unwiished have more 3D, its also more interesting, as it focuses more on steering Since through the levels and trying to aim your boosts at dash pads to mutliply your speed. And while he's slippery, you can use the drift to accurately steer him, unlike the overly loose drift in HD. And idk what you're waffling about with shortcuts, Unwiishd has TONS of unique shortcuts when you pay attention to the level design And I would take a couple of extra side missions over the awful medal collecting in Unleashed HD any day of the week.

Nice, thanks for this, couldn’t agree more! I honestly think these stages are the best sonic stages ever made! I like them more than the stages in both adventure games! Despite being more automated with the boost, they are actually more challenging and exhilarating! Of course, we know which version I am talking about! I even like the werehog stages more than the treasure hunting and mech stages! They just have a more puzzle like structure and feel more fleshed out.

Hey Needle mouse I have a question: How did the Tornado get out of Cyberspace. We saw it get sucked in, and suddenly at the end of the game, it's there. Unused fourth island, freeing the Tornado. You'd give it metal bolts.

What i like about Unwiieashed is the action chain and little details like when u boost, Sonic goes into a spinball and when u go on water, Sonic surf on the water tho. Plus I think the werehog in Wii is much shorter compared to hd. Controls, while hd is better, still I actual like the motive controls from wii cuz usually i pretended to be a boxer when roaming through werehog stages lol. How tho for stages and especially Eggmanland, easily HD takes it no contest.

Both are different games, while one is based on good reflexes and encourages replayability with shortcuts and hidden medals, the other does so with a more intelligent playing style (since you must manage your boost, not use it all the time) and amount of rings, to be honest, I think both can be very good options, but without a doubt, they are not the same game, therefore, there are 2 types of entertaining formulas

as for my opinion on the games day stages, I actually prefer the types of alternate paths in the wii version compared to the HD, as well as the strategic boost rather than the type that was memed to be "hold X to win"

I havent play hd unleashed yet :(, but from what i have played of unwiished, (and while i am almost sure hd version is better) it is very fun! Also there is a light speed dash in unwiished, what are you on about?? Looks at 8:13, the blue aura in front of sonic

Honestly, I heavily disagree. The daytime stages from Unwiished are some of my favorites in the series. The segmented boosts force you to actually strategize when and where to use your boosts for maximum efficiency, the levels still have loads of alternate paths that cut down the seconds on your run, and encourage you to explore the stages to look for more, and are hinted at pretty well, before or after the paths end. I also find that the stages can be a lot less frustrating than the HD version can be, especially in the late game (I absolutely hate HD Eggmanland, but Wii EggmanLand, specifically the day stage, is probably my favorite). There's also lots of small optimizations you can make outside of your boosts, tiny little shortcuts that require good knowledge of how the game works in order to pull off. Also, because of the limited emphasis on platforming in the Day stages, the main challenge of them is to go as fast as possible, which is a lot more fun in my opinion. Also, I never really noticed the more open stages, and I don't get why that's a bad thing? It's mainly to accommodate the drift, which is about as wide as the HD version. I do agree that the mission structure is a bit shit, and Savannah Citadel and Skyscraper Scamper being gone blows, but I think that what is here can reach the same highs as the HD version (although not as often), but never reaches the same lows for me. They're more consistent overall, and that's what I value in a good Sonic level, if they can reach that balance between fun, challenge, speed, and spectacle. My main complaint is that these stages can also share the issue of having collectables on the main path and easy to grab, the drift could be tighter, the control scheme could've been a lot better (light-dash, homing attack, and boost, all on shaking the controller is ridiculous), and there should've been Savannah Citadel and Skyscraper Scamper. Overall, the HD stages can be really good, but they can also absolutely suck the life out of me, while the Wii stages are consistently fun. It's simply incredible how much they were able to get out of the Wii in 2008.

Sounds to me like you haven't gotten the style of UnWiished to click in your head. UnWiished is going for more of an arcade-y time trial vibe with it's level design rather than being a more platform-y affair like HD. The game lives and dies by the boost, significantly moreso than the HD version. Lots of shortcuts rely on boost, corner cutting relies on boost and any dash pad can be milked for extra speed by boosting over it so segmenting the boost out into individual doses that require clever play to restock efficiently rather than a continuous stream that's always being refilled by the act of plowing through the environment makes boost management a significantly more important affair. The layout is set up such that if you're playing quickly and smoothly, you'll always have boost in reserve and having all that boost in reserve means you'll have access to bigger, better shortcuts. You're supposed to be hammering on that boost, hitting rings, getting beefy action chains and doing it all quickly and stylishly so that your bar is always topped off. The missions also put emphasis onto these skills in order to clear the levels quickly. The fact that you're upset about running into enemies because you have to ration out your boost or saying the stage is too wide and you keep missing shortcuts and springs or saying you HAVE to go slow to clear some missions tells me that you haven't picked up on what UnWiished is putting down and while it's valid to be upset at Skyscraper Scamper and Savanna Citadel being cut, I think you're using it as a jumping off point to dislike the rest of what the game offers. Also where's Unwiished Eggmanland?

People (especially Sonic fans) need to come to their senses, if they think the peak point of Sonic franchise are Unleashed's daytime stages (also the boost formula used in Sonic games since Unleashed is everything but new, because it was utilized first in Sonic Rush as far as I know)

I used to play Unleashed as a kid like crazy. However I could almost never complete any levels, part of the reason being a skill issue, but primarily because the levels were just confusing and difficult for me. Now I could really beat a stage with ease cuz ive played them so much lol. I hope SEGA, one day can maybe remaster Unleashed. PS: We dont talk about werehog stages.....

In truth the 3D boost games were never my thing. The older I get the less I ever find myself wanting to re-visit them. 'Course I'm an Adventure whore, that is definitive Sonic the Hedgehog for me. As for Unleashed specifically, it's probably my favorite 3D boost game, in part because of the werehog actually. Buuuuuuut it's still a game I only go back to once in a blue moon. Since it's release I've beaten the game 3 times. Once on the wii version and twice the HD version.

In my personal hot take, I genuinely loved the wii version including the day time levels (despite there being no animation, I'm not here to complain, I just enjoy the gameplay in general I'm grateful). I've personally tried the ps3 and xbox versions but I found no appeal in them because of the fact the controls are too complex, along with the levels (and this is coming from a person who mostly uses a playstation controller on everything...). Yeah the wii is easy, for a disabled person who has difficulty with keeping up with speed. But I personally enjoy things where they're accessible, and simple to use as long as I'm having fun! While I do appreciate the playstations cutscenes (which gives it an amazing charm that I enjoy), I personally cannot progress through when the levels are too difficult to even complete, which kills the mood for me.
