Could we all agree in term of how much MANNY has developed his own Talking Head Video Parts of his Reviews. How much more conviniend and resolut he has become. GREAT Video, and SO GOOD Presentationpart while the Talking Head Portions of the Video, Manny. RESPECT !!!
Hi! Which raw converter did you use? Neither Capture One or Lightroom are able to work with the raw files from the Sony A7R 5 at the moment, very annoying as I bought the camera yesterday and wanted to use it immediately...
I have the A1 and the A7RV. After shooting with the A7RV for about three weeks, I agree that the automatic white balance and the manual white balance presets are more accurate on the A7RV than those of the A1. Focus tracking in video mode is a bit better too, although the A1 tends to nail eye autofocus more, while the A7RV keeps the body in focus most of the time.
@@diegopalma5123 The skin tones have a more natural look than the A1 under the same lighting conditions. I shot a dance rehearsal and the dancers skin tones ranged from very pale to slightly tanned. All of them looked good without over warm look the A1 produces.
I can do the same thing with my CHEAPER A74..... don't need to spend $5,500.00 for slow reading sensor. no thank you. Canon R3 still has superior focus engine without a parasitic extra "chip"... Sony is still behind. I'm buying an extra A1 with that money. Manny admits Sony's EVF suck. Sony users used to make fun of the flippy screen...now they praise it. donkeys
Audio and background music so good ! Mesmerising! Best review of the A7R5. Skin tones is the most important thing for me and you're the only one covers it. No one else on RU-vid I guess can perceive subtleties. Bravo
i think I'll have to wait for Sony A1 Ultra or something, i have a feeling Sony is holding back. great camera review, i just think there is more to come, Sony A1 has it all, just need a refresh update XD
All these camera companies have been holding back for decades. How do you think they milk ever drop out of the consumer and make a killing? Canon announced a 75mpixel camera in 2016 or something I think it was. They sit on the tech and trickle a little every year. And many fall for it and get the latest and greatest at the highest price. While a year later its 30% less.
That white balance fix might make me jump from my A7R3, where I often have a greenish tint. Don’t need the 60mp, but the tones? That would be wonderful.
The greater color is definitely important, I shoot real estate but I always had to adjust the white balance manually when I shoot every room, and the low res screen of the Sony does not help. I hope this camera can help with not just portrait but also real estate photography. How I wish this camera also gives us downsampled 4k 60fps. But, we can't have everything right, at least not from a non-flagship camera.
Very nice video. Good points on every aspect. BTW The music in the background was giving me vibes that something is terribly wrong, It did not much the video that much.
Around 7:20, when the focus box is white, but then turns green - Is the white not in focus ? Green is ? Do I need to wait until it turns green to ensure focus is on ?
thanks for the perspective. When shooting with OCF I always lock WB to 5600. I don't have to remember, I have all settings appropriate for Portrait Studio shooting on Preset #1. I have my presets using the PAL acronym, Portrait - 1, Action - 2, Landscape -3. I can always change the WB it in Post but helps for reviewing images on camera.
Nah I’ll pass. So basically auto white balance and AI pretty much the same camera lol. I’ll stick with my A7r3 until those features become standard throughout the line. It’s like iOS 16 finally catching up to android customizations when it’s years old. I use to work at circuit city years ago and Sony was always knows for milking it. A1 flagship but doesn’t include this technology or better white balance. Clunky deep menus 500 page ebook. I already have two degrees not looking for a masters in Sony. 😭✌️
Are 60mp portraits more beautiful than 33mp portraits? Does 60mp provide a kind of medium format look? Trying to decide whether to upgrade from A74 to A7R5 for portraits. Thank you.
Omg you did SO MUCH coverage on this camera, sucks they cut your time short but the information you shared just WOW! Thanks for always being so informative!
Just rented the A7R5 to try to replace my Canon. Sooo disappointed to see no more eye autofocus!!! WTH??? I like to shoot in small spot with half press then rear button gives me eye and you can no longer do that. 😢
It seems pretty mid to me for that price. Only 4 fps in silent mode, with the old sensor and 4k60 is pixel binned and cropped. The 61 MP is a nice big number but the detail difference wont' be noticeable over a 45 MP camera (heck even a 20 MP R6 image upscaled from raw will compete with a 45 MP... I've tested hundreds of images using the same lenses). The new LCD is really the only cool new feature. Even the AF seems a bit jumpy for my liking (according to Fro).
Of course, typical comments whenever a new camera comes out. People would obviously say that it isn't a huge upgrade in order to justify their ego of wanting to still believe that their old gears remain the best, so they make conclusive judgements based on pure speculations made online only and not even trying the camera itself in actuality first. 6 months later and you'll see some users who have already owned the camera for months, saying that it's one of the best camera upgrades they've had in years.
Would Crop Mode help in faster shutter speeds because of less pixels. I am probably using the wrong question but when you mentioned that you miss the flash and shooting speed of the A1 by putting in a crop mode or using an APSC lens might improve the performance. On the flash part not being as fast as the A1 that is why it wasn't implemented by Sony. Great video as always. The camera industry is improving all of the time with great innovations unfortunately this market is shrinking. I do notice that the Asian market is rivaling North America and Europe with purchasing cameras. Last question: If the Panasonic S5II had Phase Detect would you try it out? Cheers!
Another fantastic video. Your work is so good that I can't tell the difference from A7iii to whatever latest and greatest. Slap a great lens on and they all look the same.
literally. i think Manny spoke about this in a recent video but its really about the minute differences at this point. especially between camera brands. and you really gotta know how to make the most out of your gear.
Duke is correct. A7iii is such a beast even today. Side by side I'd like to see who can tell the difference. I'm happy with my iii and iv. Plus my CCs are already too high.
Having limited camera time and still making such an informative, visually complete video: it blows you out of the water. That's why I really like watching your video content and I hope you don't switch to insta format fever. In the end, I can only say one thing: THANK YOU!
I love that Sony makes many launches of new cameras so that they finally lower the price of the one that my budget does not allow me to buy, I am sorry I have years to buy a sony camera but they are very expensive for me.
Just have to ball up on manual focus and adjusting white balance. literallyyyyyyyyyyyy even a 10yr old sony mirroless camera has the adjustaments. Go high iq bro . Ball up broster. ball big.
At this point cameras can’t even get any better. Personally I’d buy an A7RIV and call it a day. Don’t be a slave to new items because these companies will bleed you dry. These fancy words Sony are making RU-vidrs say to try get it to sell - really mean nothing. In no way am I hating on Manny though I’ve loved his videos for years.. just my opinion.
I totally agree. Cameras like a7v or new Hasselblad are not really worth that much more money. Difference between those and let's say Sony a7r III is minimal and without reviewing the photo on 120 inch 8k TV it's not visible anyway
Well its true if your comparing 1 version to the next version. The differences is only big if you’re comparing things that are older. Like anything else. For me .. i have been using the r2 since launch and nv buy any camera. It has been 7 years. I will be upgrading to this r5 alongside with my r2. I think its a big upgrade. If you already have r3 or r4… obviously there are lesser reason for the upgrade. Unless you just rich and like having the latest gear alll the time.
I just fell in love with the style of your videos nowdays, im amazed, enjoying brols on big tv screen with highend sony headset, keep going manny 👍 great job !!!
Thanks for a great review! I'm starting a photography business and I'm stuck between the A7iv and the A7RV. I have a budget of $5,000.00. Getting the A7iv will allow me to get the GM 35mm f1.4 and GM 70-200mm f2.8 lens as well, but some of the features of the A7RV are making it difficult to know which way to go. As someone with ADHD as well, the white balance is a concern, but I'd only be able to get one GM lens for now going with the A7RV. Any recommendations would be great! I'll probably be doing mostly studio starting off. Thanks in advance!
The better SOOC skin tones are because you are shooting JPEG rather than RAW. I’ve been trying to tell portrait photographers this for years but everyone is so obsessed with RAW. SOOC JPEGs have been great on modern Canon and Sony (and of course Fuji) cameras for years now. Get your WB and exposure right before you take the photo, like a pro photographer should, and you won’t need to shoot RAW and manipulate skin tones, colors and white balance for 20 minutes. Fuji cameras are a prime example of not needing to shoot RAW. The SOOC JPEGs are fantastic.
@@darriusholt if you’re a professional photographer, it’s your job and your responsibility to get the shot right or else you are doing a disservice to your client. Don’t be one of those lazy “I’ll just fix it in post”guys. Besides, portrait photographers have control over their lighting in studio. And if you don’t know what white balance and exposure settings you should be using outside, you should probably spend more time honing your skills rather then buying new gear.
@@michaelbell75 there’s a big difference between photographers that get the look they want in the moment, and photographers that create the look they want in post.
Ergonomics: I think we can all agrre the A7R-ergo sucks, regardless of flip screen. Hence why Manny didn't even think of mentioning it. I am so tired of using such a junky ergo body, i am done and switching back. Don't get me wrong, its probably fine for Hollywood actor size hands. But anything other than mini, micro size hands, forget about it.
Every new camera is the Best camera ever, at this point. Just last week it was the A7VI, week before that it was the R3 or R5 or R5s or R6II or the Z9 or the.......nevermind lol
My man....thank you for this review. I've tried watching others and it's just guys outside shooting landscape or a leaf. I love nature too. But let's see some portraits! Thank you for showing that. Also, bad ass my dude, had a main light, a fill light, a rim light, a background light, and a Optical Spot snoot all going on at the same time. Awesome shot. If you ever need angel wings hit my wife and I up. Kayla Douglas Artistry
Do you think some of the AF options will get ported to the A1? Seems kind of crazy that their most expensive body that takes the best of stills and video would have inferior AF options compared to the A7RV?
I wonder if anyone would recommend getting an a7r series just for photo, i already have an a7s3. If not I'm getting a xt5 fuji, but I'm worrying it's cropped frames are as good in very low light..
Thank you very much, great video! I love my sony A1 and the lens selection but frankly their lack of substantial/meaningful firmware updates is embarrassing! Even for their "Flagship camera". Focus breathing compensation came out with A7SIII (OCT 2020) and still not available for the A1!!!! So I don't see the new focus stacking (A7RV) making its way to other models. Also $1200 for a CF express type A is disgusting!!!
FINALLY!!! Freaking FINALLY!! I’ve watched what felt like hours of videos to find the early adopter pros to compare or AT LEAST talk about the resolution of the A1 and the A7Rv. Yeah we know all the specs and changes that’s obvious and a bit gimmicky. How does it actually look tho. So geez manny I just found you but thanks for taking the time to do this vid! Super helpful and your portraits are bad ass!!
i worked with canon r5 and r7 and they both were disasters especially the face detection and eye autofocus. it would focus on either half the time and the other half some other random thing and bounce around sporatically. sony a7r4 blew away canon it was a night and day difference and the sony a7r5 is suppose to improve upon the r4 it'll blow away canon's r5 and r7 easy
Personally feel that the A1 is looking wayyyy overpriced in comparison. I mean, the A7iv blows me away and is a smidge of the price. Let alone this beast!
