Tried a pair in walmart a couple months back and if you like bass they will blow your minds. It is really a enjoyable experience and i hope to buy a pair one day.
I own a pair. There so fun to have, and if you want to listen to music instead of laugh at it you can turn the bass slider down XD. They're great for gaming, that extra base is awesome for car sounds and gunshots when you want to feel like you're in an action movie.
I've actually had my pair since they launched like 5 years ago lmao and they've never stopped being my main pair of headphones! Bearing in mind I'm a sound design student so I have plenty of headphones but they are truly fun and great headphones for just enjoying music :)
That crusher demo made my speakers make sounds I've never heard before, I was thinking "okay, these'll be a bit bassier than the XB1000 demo" I was not expecting THAT much extra bass

i have the xb900n, bluetooth headphones for a decent bit of cash with very little soundstage, very heavy bass, and shitty noise canceling (my ears hurt the first few days of using them).
@@KptnAutismus I had those, then I got the 910N. They have slightly less bass, but the noise canceling is way better and they’re comfy. Hopefully the next model is the best of both worlds.
Note on the skullcandy pair, recently repaired my sister's pair. The bass motor things touch some of the cabling inside. This EATS UP the cables entirely. Had to resolder half the things. Why is there like 10 cables inside in a rats nest? Why are they not organized? I don't know, but it puts a real limit on lifespan of the things.
I’ve owned a older generation of Crushers, these bastards just died after two months. Got a replacement, they were dead after 3. Never bothered to get a new pair.
@@RescueRacoon96 i have the anc model and it seems to be better there ive actually been using them for about 2 years fine. i am not doubting you have these issues but i also dont use the bass slider too much (almost always off) so maybe its just that keeping them alive.
I've used my pair almost every day for the past 3 years and till now I don't have a issue with them, and I've thrown them across and had them fall off a million times by accident never had a single issue with them and I owned the OG pair for 6 years same story
Used to own the crushers shown in the video, actually worked well for me til I got the crusher evo, basically its the way better version of the 2016 crushers, they go way lower than the old pair. also are way louder on the headphone cable too and not just the bass im talking bout

The Sony factory that made the headphones was probably the former Sendai Technology Center in Tagajo, a coastal suburb of Sendai (north of Fukushima), where employees had to construct makeshift rafts to escape the flooding from the tsunami in March 2011. The factory re-opened in 2012 as the Sony Storage Media Manufacturing Corp. but headphone production seems to have moved to Oita, in Kyushu (southwest Japan), according to a Sony Corporation list of manufacturing operations in March 2021.
@@epergne Yeah, that sounds about right, even 20 years ago most Sony products weren't made in Japan (at least of those Sony products sold overseas). I guess that means it would've probably been a flooding incident unrelated to the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami (of course, Thailand itself was affected by the December 2004 tsunami but only the part of the country along the Indian Ocean southwest of Bangkok).
I'm not an audiophile or anything. I found your videos randomly and I have to say you are one of the funniest people on this website. I've listened to crushers once in person. They're amazing. They're even better than the freakish ears make it seem when you can FEEL the bass. It's such a unique headphone experience
I had a pair of crushers in my angsty highschool days, right around when twenty one pilots' Blurryface came out. Loved em literally to death while I was pencil pushing at an internship with a manufacturing company. I later got some DT770s (big ohm ones, no amp), and currently have SRH840s, and they destroy the sound quality of the Crushers.
I had the old version of the SC Crushes, and I used them extensively while in high school. Funny thing is I'm a metalhead and you'd think I'd like treble over bass but no. They made music sound so much punchier, and of course, I didn't have the slider even half way up. I never tried the new ones but I bet they're just too much for most music. And yes they snap at the head band.
I have the bluetooth ones and if the slider is all the way down, theyre still pretty warm but the sound is actually quite enjoyable. I also find them reasonably comfortable and they didnt break in all the years Ive had them. Theyre just as much fun as my HD650, although in a different way.
The new ones have a constant weird sheet metal wobbling sound to them no matter what setting you have the slider on. Its best to just crank it up as high as you can stand and put on some Sleaford Mods.
Had to let go of these almost a decade ago due to financial difficulties, still miss them - they’re absolutely fun, and the “monster truck tire” pads are truly amazing. They looked utterly ridiculous on my small head, my friends had a great laugh!
What's even crazier is that, even if they ARE actually capable of playing 2 Hz, the vast majority of audio engineers will roll off anything below 20 Hz because all it will do is muddy up the audio signal with stuff we can't hear. So it's almost entirely useless to have anything below 20 Hz because all of that stuff is eliminated during mixing.
Having the ability to go to 2 hz also means the 20 hz is more easily replaced by the headphones, Kind of like how we can't hear headphones with 35khz but the headphones still sound brighter
yeah, i remember the time i bought a subwoofer rated down to 18Hz at ±3dB I tried running a 20Hz test tone on it and it sounded like a truck was idling on the street outside, rather than a tone. i think it's just a way for them to brag about the low end response
@@bjarkebech i mean, that’s kinda accurate to those low frequencies. Once the frequency gets low enough, you can hear the wave going up and down, and it sounds similar to an engine.
@@bjarkebech Yeah, below 20 Hz is when it becomes less of a tone and more of a rumble. Going that low can be useful in some cases, like a movie with an Earthquake scene, but usually the sound engineer will manually synthesize the low frequencies to get the desired rumble effect.
I remember trying these on at a Best Buy years and years ago, probably around 2010 or so. They were absolutely so freaking comfortable, and I wanted to buy them, but I couldn't afford it at the time. A real shame, I didn't think they'd just be gone like that a few years later.
I used to love skullcandy headphones as a kid, and I can confirm, they are built about as sturdy as a dried up twig. Every pair of their earphones I've owned has had one side just give up on life and the headphones snapped at the headband in only a few weeks. Horrible.
my wired buds always lasted really long until my dog or my nephew got ahold of them...and I still have my pair of over ear headphones and considering what they have been through they've been troopers
Forum necromancy here. I believe you, but I haven't personally experienced that with any Skullcandy headphones. What I have experienced though, is the headphone fabric slipping out of the plastic near the end of its life. Definitely not helpful it you're rough with your headphones.
Jesus. I have the Skullcandy Crusher Evos and theyre holding up likr a champ. Sad to hear theyre actually not all of a brilliant company, still gotta love that big bass tho xD If Wade says that the evos havent got as much bass as the crusher wireless, i wonder how stupid the older crushers sound lmao.
I bought XB500 from a yard sale with a bunch of others great headphones, and I underestimated them by far. I thought that they look like cheap plastic headphones you get for a bunch of bucks at any normal store. I was shocked when I found out what I got. I paid 25 euros for the XB500, Philips X2, Teufel Massive and AudioTechnica MSR-7 as a packet. Still one of the best trades I made till today!
I had a pair of crushers in highschool and loved them because they had "big stinky bass" they are a FUN pair of headphones, but they fit really tight. I'm much more content with my sennheisers now, they sound FANTASTIC, I almost cry listening to them because of detailed and wonderful they are for watching movies and listening to R&B

I was listening to this on Shokz Openrun Pros, which relies on bone conduction to transmit audio to the wearer's ears, and when the Skull Crusher demo came on, my headset was vibrating like all hell broke loose and I had to resist so hard from laughing my ass off since I was in a public place.
I still have my XB-700. The "leather" on cushions is flaking, Jack works.. sometimes.. but i can't throw them away. They were too good in their prime. Lovely series.

So. I turned it down some for the Skullcandy headphones. I'm listening on my Soundcore Spirit X2 which are already a little overly bassy without using it's extra bass profile but are, at least to my ear, pretty decent lower mid tier as I got them for about $70 a year ago. When those Skullcandys went off I almost dropped my phone trying to take the bud out while turning it down. All I'm saying is I nearly threw the bud on the floor from fear
For me I just immediately laughed at the pure destruction of sound then proceeded to mute the video. Like I don't wanna spend the money on anything Skullcandy, but I really want a pair of crushers just so I can experience headphones that sound like they give you a minor TBI when you use them.
@@Speedojesus Go for the Crusher Evos if you do! Even more bass, you actually get highs and mids (it's a *very* flavoured sound, but you can get 'em!), USC-C for charging, Tile so you don't lose 'em when they vibrate off your head and out da window, significantly stronger as well!
I got the Crusher Evos after watching DankPods' video on Crushers. They work both wirelessly, or wired with mic using the cable they come with, or wired without mic using any old random aux cable. (The included cable is just an aux cable that has a mic a few inches from one end of it.) Speaking as an audiophile, the treble is definitely kind of rough compared to my nice IEMs. But the bass is insane. It doesn't sound like these recorded clips of it though -- it's just so much bass that it's causing clipping in the mics in the ears-on-a-stand. The closest analogy I can think of to describe the sound is if you strapped subwoofers to your head. There's a bass slider though, with all the way up being almost nothing but bass, and all the way down being about normal sounding. Around 1/8 to 1/4 of the way up is a good sweet spot if you want a bunch of bass but not so much it eats everything else. Also, if you have an equalizer, lowering 100 Hz (or the nearest slider you have to 100) improves the bass in my opinion, removing some lower midbass that can sound bloated and letting you turn that bass slider higher to get more deep rumbly subwoofer bass. While you're at it, lowering 8 kHz (8000 Hz) by around 3 dB (3 notches on most equalizers) helps if you find the highs grating.
Same, I had it playing through my tower speakers in my apartment and have never reached for the pause button so fast, the HD600's sounding beautiful, then raw unbridled shaking...
Woah, I had my Sony XB-700's that I imported from Japan JUST crap out on me yesterday after having them for over 12ish years. I pawned them off to my fiance cause she loved how fun they sound, and they finally hit the bucket. I used them for many many years, but it literally felt like I was wearing monster truck tires. The pads had the entire leather stripped off from the amount of wear lmao.
repair them. good phones are build well and often even have replacement parts available. If they're done anyway, can't make it worse, so might as well give it a try.

Shouldn't they slowly show signs of aging? The only way headphones can die suddenly are blasting music in it, setting them in a backpack and putting a heavy math textbook on top of them (Yes, I did that on accident in 2012), or chewing on the wires (yes, I did that also). Moral of the story, pretty much anything electronic that I own will have a short lifespan.
I had the XB500s around 2010, it was crazy. Basically strapping a subwoofer on your head, but still retaining clarity. I was told the 1000s were ... twice as crazy. A friend found a pair a few years ago (how he got them is still a mystery), but i never had a chance to try them. These were so comfortable though, damn.
the XB1000s are over 500$ on ebay here in the US. Dayum. Glad you show these lovely sets off to us as otherwise i would likely never get to experience them, while not much of a audio guy myself. I find these videos so cool and informative.

the Crushers make me laugh every time I hear them like what the heck even I don't have a pair but I have a gaming headset with a similar concept to it so it's like double the bass and it's amazing (though mine do not sound like that when actually listening to things, not sure if the Crushers are even more insane or if the ears just pick it up strange)
Hey! I just wanna say that I think they did bring em back but under the MDR-Z7, its another 70mm speaker driver and they look more modern and updated. Might be worth a lookin into.
My old roommate had a pair of these on his computer in the living room. I remember playing Undertale for the first time with them and it was a blast. Unfortunately one of the headphones came off of the headband eventually and they became a hassle to use, but ultra comfy, super bassy, but not dumb bassy.
I wasn't going to head your warning but did anyway, glad I did, I forgot how insane the crushers were and I almost lost my new earbuds haha. Who in their right mind wants to listen to that? these Sony's have a nice bass range and being that you managed to score yours from Japan is good news for me as I have friends in the region who might (if im lucky) know where to find some.
I've had my XB-1000 for years. I've had two of them. (Still have them) The first time I saw them I laughed, then I put them on... The Best (especially for that price). Silly indeed, but so comfortable and bassy, yet clear.
I forever-borrowed a pair of these from one of my friends and I loved them to death. I was a huge dubstep fan, so they fit my style perfectly. And it cannot be stressed enough how comfortable they are. I sadly don't have them anymore. They got lost in a move five years ago, and I've been looking for a new pair ever since.
I remember when you reviewed the skullcandy's, had a brand new set of hyperx cloud alphas that I hadn't even bought a day prior. Yeah they stopped working half an hour after the review from the amount of bass, with the left side going out within a few seconds of the test. Amazing content as always though!
@@trentonwelch9506 I turned the volume all the way up MAX in my OneOdio Pro-50, which are already bass monsters after having it for a month. They surprisingly held up and didn't lose any slight sound quality or even volume after repeatedly playing the recording 10 times over at max volume. these heaphones only cost 70 $ USD, but dang, they sure know how to stand up.

I'd love to hear the XB1000's but ive never been able to find them on ebay etc, I bought Sony XB500's for $79 from Best Buy in 2012 and I still use them today on PC lol. I've replaced the ear pads as they started to flake over time but they otherwise still sound great, also bought a portable headphone amplifier and have it routed from my PC soundcard output, they produce impressive bass but also sound clean (XB500's frequency response 4Hz - 24K / 40mm driver) I can't imagine what the XB1000's bass is like on a larger 70mm driver!

They don't sound like that in real life! I have my Crushers for years and they never sounded like that! I had to glue the headband with epoxy glue on both sides by now though... I still adore them and plan to buy the Crusher Evo soon-ish. There is however the option to just use the bass slider very slightly though...

Firstly, Those Sonys have such smooth bass it's beautiful, secondly, I had a pair of crushers in college, probably the very first version of them, and even loving bass as much as I do they were horrible lol. I swapped to a pair of their earbuds because they weren't half bad. I'm no audiophile though so really my opinion on any sort of headphone is moot.
I remember when this model was released. There was a complete family of extra bass headphones. But XB1000 were the top of the line. If I'm not wrong the price was $250
I got the xb1000 and the little brother xb90ex, back then was mostly listening to all types of house music and dubstep, they were perfect for it. Sold the xb90ex but kept xb1000, too good to let go.

I have a pair that I bought in China while it was in production and use it fairly often. Love them so much and they are still in great condition. Feel blessed seeing your video randomly suggested on youtube hyping these up.

I've had my XB300s and used them regularly since I bought them many many years ago, haven't found a pair of headphones that quite do it for me like they do. Sony, please bring this design back to the market.
I love my crushers. I know they aren't audiophile headphones, but for me having that slider to adjust if I want to kill my music or have very little (in comparison) at all it just makes me love them more.
It’s amazing how often I’ll put on a different pair and feel like they’re empty because I’m used to the extra lows I get. I just wish mine weren’t falling apart.
@@braisedtoast9002 I use my crushers recreationally, like on my phone over bluetooth. I'm in no way an audiophile myself, but my dad is a musician that has many different headset that I've tried.
A friend of mine brought a pair of skullcandy crushers with himself today and when I talked to him about them he said he bought them for the bass and uses them at the max bass setting
I actually had the cheaper version of this in high school and I must say, those cushions were really soft and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. They also doubled as ear muffs in the winter. Sony MDR-XB700
I’d be curious to see what you think of the Sony Pulse 3D headphones after this. They aren’t especially bassy (see Rtings), but their design feels a bit like a spiritual successor to the xd1000s, with the wide cushions. One neat little improvement is the speaker is angled parallel to your ear in within the cushion, rather than parallel with the cushion itself
I'm like 95% sure there were several pairs of these sitting in my local best buy as recently as 2020, I had no idea they were discontinued. I just assumed like every other gimmicky extra bass headphones like skullcandy that they were probably shit and never paid any attention to them.
(4:50) For the people, just note that you can't play sounds below 20 Hz or above 20 kHz if you convert it to mp3 (or if the file was converted to mp3 at some point), because mp3 cuts out those ranges to reduce the file size. It was funny back in the day when people keep playing those sound files that increased the pitch until "you couldn't hear it but could feel it". But it's all placebo, because everyone had them in mp3 format, and probably didn't even have speakers that could play such high frequency anyway.
wrong, at least for the low end. you can test that by creating a few sine tracks in audacity. then export as mp3 and re-import. a 2hz tone was still there. but anything above 20.5khz got cut out. even with a 48khz sample rate in edit and export.
I wasn't expecting to see the Crushers again but I absolutely love them. I recently got the more recent Crusher Evo headphones, somehow the bass on them is MORE ridiculous. I mean, it puts the original Crushers to shame.

@@MyouKyuubi Actually, I normally had them at lower volumes. I normally take precautions when using headphones that I know are capable of delivering something so loud. However, when I wanted to experience them at their fullest capability, it would've been for a shorter period of time. Also, I'll admit that the Crusher Evo's are pretty much better in every way. Although, opinions on headphones are highly subjective as DankPods himself says in this video.
@@Gfreak250 same, I normally listen at low volumes but every now and then I'll crank up the crusher evos for a short period of time, or sometimes if I want to rattle that motor I'll crank it up and put it on my temples instead of my ears. So much fun
@@GooseCrack Oh, absolutely. Or just set them on a table and watch them go off at full power. Regardless, it's definitely nice having the bass slider as an option. I'd normally have the Evo's at around 50-60% and that's usually enough for a great listening experience in my opinion.
I remember buying my first ever pair of headphones as a bass head kid and these where my dream. Even back then they where expensive, so i got the XB700 (bit smaller but same thing). This video made me remember how much I loved them, shame they where eaten by the dog :D
Actually, in my experience, xb-500 was a perfect balance (for extra bass type of headphones) between bass punch and deep bass, while 6 times cheaper. But again, everyone has a different preference and taste.
I've had a pair of the XB-500s since like 2011, and they are easily my favorite headphones. People don't understand what it is like to FEEL music without trying a pair of these XBs. I've worn through 4 pairs of earcups (those flakes go everywhere), and they are still going strong. There are no other headphones ever with more comfortable ear pads. I recently replaced them as my main driver with a pair of the Sivga SV021, and they are close, but the XBs are still more fun - I just got tired of the crappy material the XBs have on the ear pads.
There's finally a competitor to the Sennheiser HD600s being called the Huh Duh Six Hungeo's by Senn: The Sony XB1000s being called the Xuh Buh Ten Hungeo's by Sony
this made me go out and buy the crushes oh my god. when the demo swapped from the Sony to the crushers I started laughing my ass off I was not prepared for that. absolutely ridiculous bass I'm so excited for them to come in.

@@AspenFrostt Good that you have another pair of headphones because a drawback about all that bass is you get used to it. Thus, they lose their magic. I use mine almost exclusively on the weekend, listening to my weekly recommendations from Spotify. This way, my ears can rest from them for a week and the bass is still hilariously fun come Friday night 😂. Granted, I also could just, you know...slide the bass down. But that seems sacrilege to me 😅
