I love how Tony undermines Janice’s attempt at cooking for the family right after the speech about how undermining is bad and is teaching his kids not to do.
@@jesussson3467she didn’t cook the food she ordered Take Out from Artie Bucco’s resturant and made it seem like she cooked the food. Watch the show before commenting bullshit you spineless idiot
When he snaps END OF SUBJECT sounds like a kid too. His young self really comes through when dealing with family. The depth of the character is unmatched.
Ha! Ha!. Those poor children. Bobby is dead, their real Mother is dead, and Janice is a basket case. Dear God, if a Child is exposed to this drama while having meals, they could be traumatized, Sophia could be an Anorexic for all we know.
@From the Shadows Emerges... That is sick! Before she played Jill Foster Abbott #7 on The Young & The Restless, she dated the Former Manager of Crosby, Stills Nash & Young and even met Singer Laura Nyro (RIP). She in her own way was a Groupie.
Even better when he trolls Janice to undermine her (probably bullshit) attempt at anger management, then strolls out smiling about it. A lot of my favourite scenes are the ones where there's nothing much going on, but you can see the characters getting bumping up against one another over some petty slight, or simmering resentment.
Jim Gandolfini's performance was beyond the limits of alot of actors. So many actors can't do frustration without making you feel awkward because they don't care to do their role while also making people laugh. It's all about heart and if you are just acting funny like all the hack comedians or just acting caring like Mark Wahlburg, Tom Cruise or any other famous psycho then you can piss off. Superficial wasn't a key ingredient in him like it is in so many.
@@defragsbin I think janice was genuinely happy. And Tony couldn't stand it. I mean that whole episode she was honestly looking at herself and her flaws. And Tony had to ruin it. I mean she was even calm af when a telemarketer called. Tonys a sociopath man
haha As son of Italian descendants I can tell you this is extremely accurate, the suddenly heated discussions on a Sunday dinner out of nowhere, it is just part of the Sunday dinner dynamics hahaha
@@veronicao4643 I don't really think that a persons's personality can really be judged by their nationality especially a nation as small as the Netherlands. Belgium Denmark Sweden Germany Luxembourg, all mostly the same IMO.
Lol junior, “small hands that was always your problem.” despite there being several scenes of Tony just beating the absolute shit out of a variety people with his big ass meaty hands lmao.
In certain sports you literally gotta have MASSIVE hands, like in football I think the average QB hand size is between 9-10 inches. I don't think Tonys hands are that large but they definitely aren't small either lmao
Very real scene for those of us who endured those dreaded 'family' dinners; I can relate to the kid who put his hands over his ears. Raise yours differently sweetheart.
Especially for the holidays, Polly. My attitude has always been that the holidays can be great as long as you don't fuck them up by spending them with family.
I was rewatching the Sopranos, and actually in the very first episode, Tony when introducing Uncle Junior, mentions that he loves him but he always told his girl cousins that he didn't have the makings of a varsity athlete and that was very hurtful. Funny that 4 or 5 seasons later, they actually make it a major plot point and an iconic Sopranos scene lol.
Sopranos love doing long story arcs. In season 1, the FBI said they wanted Johnny Sack when they arrested Junior. In season 5, the FBI finally got Johnny.
@@SecretAgentMan00 yep thats a very awesome thing about the show, they have many small details that they never forget that run for a long long time. Just one example is the drill that Tony gave cousin Brian. I believe in a later episode he forgets he gave it to him and goes "wheres the drill?"
@@forman208 from what we get (in his dream, and some of the prequel). Tony was "talented", maybe not in all areas, but it was point of pride for him especially over the fact that he credits his football as why he's a threatening guy. Most people agree Tony sees it as "lost potential", so that's why he's so sour about it. "he could've made it" on his own.
Medley of pastas that Janice whipped up... That look on Tony’s face as he says it. The comedy in this show is completely underrated. David chase and the writers are the best.
I like how at 2:04 Barb's daughter started laughing. I don't know if that was scripted or if she just started laughing when tony blew up. Lol. Had me going though, lol.
Junior was always my favorite character, he was the only who who got away with stuff like this. Tony would've ripped anyone else's head off, but each time he thinks how many hours Junior spent throwing ball with him.
I love how Barb asks "what?" in such a casual manner, even when Tony is on the edge of breaking everything close to him. Like it's just such a normal thing at that point that she doesn't even realize Tony is seriously pissed until after he keeps screaming
0:40 Tony's very subdued and off guard "oh wait the fff..." Never fails to get a smile outta me. It catches him so off guard he doesn't even know what to do xD
I love how no one is particularly startled to Tony’s throwing his fork and screaming at junior. Arguing and yelling is so normalized doesn’t seem like anyone notices lol
To be honest Tony should realize Jun is old and getting Dementia and he repeats (my gram started to say 'alka seltzer over n over again every day) to flip out and leave the nice dinner was childish ...just let the old man talk and enjoy the family ....fuckin hothead !
The show is teaching the audience something about Tony. Just when we think we love him, we find out what a petty, intolerant, stupid dumbfuck he really is.
When a person reacts strongly over something a 'normal' person would consider minor it's because there are sensitive issues around it. Tony has daddy issues, not being thought of as masculine, successful by his father, and Junior is the real father figure in his life (note that the first flashback of his father is to tony playing catch with junior). To be reminded that Johnny always said Tony didn't have the mamkings, small hands and then have his surrogate father repeating sucha thing... and he has a short temper to begin with... makes total sense.
Everyone always talks about the food which does always look delicious, but the wine they make themselves or furio’s wine from Italy looks absolutely delicious.
This scene alone proved why Barbara and her husband kept away from her siblings and mother. The one time they are there for Sunday Dinner, theres a huge argument within minutes😂
I can't imagine how a grown man like Tony could be that sensitive. No one likes being criticised but showing such anger after hearing such a thing. Real hothouse flower he was.
I love how deliberately grating the sound design can be, like with the squelching of the casserole at the start and the loud tapping of the spoon at the end.
