The story of Tony failing to show up for their heist and the guilt and shame he has carried since, and the struggles of a former criminal to go ahead and earn an honest living even though the chance of making dirty money was still there. I think the melfi scene is significant because it shows how painful it was for tony to actually confront his inner demons. Most of everything else they talked about was to make tony see more clearly as a mob boss or sociopathic attempts at mimicking emotions. He never wanted melfi to help him be a better person because it would feel like that session every time.

Always thought had Tony B not messed up with going "rogue" (killing Billy Leotardo etc) he would have tried taking over as Boss eventually. There's a scene with him, Angelo Garepe and Rusty Millio that was set in the casino I think it was that T gave Blundetto to run, Angelo gifts him a plaque that Tony B hangs up that says "You're the Boss". The facial expression on Tony B was suspicious to me. Not to mention Tony B was tougher than T (Did many years in prison etc) he was also genuinely well liked by the crew whereas we see T rules by fear and his "family" don't really care for him (there's quite a few scenes that show this). In the future if he challenged this after being "Made" I think he would have more supporters than Tony S. Of course this is just my opinion and Chase went with the storyline he did 😊

Dr. Melfi was always the biggest gangster on this show. We never noticed it because she was the opposite of Tony's mom. Tony's mom would use guilt to manipulate Tony into doing terrible things... but Melfi, without realizing it, was empowering Tony to do far worse by helping him relieve his guilt. That's why Tony B died. Tony the non-varsity athlete released his guilt on that call, and pulled the trigger on his visit.

A little fun fact here, about the scene where the two Tony’s are watching TV outside. It was actually freezing outside that day. At one point, James went into the Escalade to warm up. The way Tony interacts with Animal...you can really see him copying his mother's passive-aggressive communication strategies. He became what he despised, what he despised made him. Easy to get lost in the comedy and the memes of the show but at it's core it's a proper tragedy.

@S475-pb2dp
@S475-pb2dp Месяц назад
@@brennanc4321 yeah but Tony's panic attacks are nothing like irl. That's the problem, its not realistically portrayed. It ain't a damn stroke or heart attack, where you keel over and collapse. It's waves of pure terror. Your mind is racing, you're in flight or fight mode, and your heart is pounding in your throat. The first thing you'd do is just lay in bed, or get somewhere where you're comfortable But this scene here is amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if Gandolfini had anxiety irl. He nailed it.
