It's fucking hysterical that she brings AJ along every time. Boy's there to keep her accountable, but she knows he's too dumb to catch on. Smart, funny writing.
In the alternate universe... Furio and Carmela got married after Tony's death from a helicopter accident. Furio takes over the business and becomes the new boss. The end.
Anyone watching sopranos for the first time would assume Furio was a gentle artist or something. But then skip to another video on RU-vid and he is blowing a guys kneecaps off!!
Carmela didn't know what a real Italian is until she met Furio. All she knew were guidos from Jersey who would jingoistically call themselves Italian even if they couldn't fucking find Catania, Enna, Reggio Calabria or Salerno on the map of Italy. Some of them probably couldn't find Italy on the map of the world.
Everything is done for a reason with this writer, the tea pot full of pressure ready to burst and let everything out is the perfect way to describe furio ready to tell his true feelings. Love noticing all the small things
not really. Carmella was like a school girl. she had the same with that builder guy she ended up kissing. how long do you think Furio would have keept Carmella around for lol? after nice comes the bite. Carmella going back at her own self.
I just wanted to see Carmella get banged again. There's an old saying in Naples: "only one a way to find outta if a she know a how to do a doggie style..."
Furio balled her. It’s obviously strongly hinted, just as Tony deaths is strongly hinted. She got balled by 4 different guys in the show. And people want to smack on Tony!
Lol ! The actor who plays AJ does a great job of being pissed off at being there from the get go . Even his inner sigh and way of walking into Furios house . Very underrated actor.
Great acting here in a tough scene by Edie Falco, as usual, but Frederico Castelluccio is also excellent. Castelluccio's work on the series is underrated.
I think you missed what was going on there. She didn't want to verbalize her appreciation. You could feel the attraction in the air - she didn't want to get emotional, and Furio recognized it
This story line had no pay off. It just died, and the price was losing a great character. And NJ could sure as shit have used a guy like Furio against NY
This is my favorite scene in all of TV show, movies and books because it talks about how I feel ever since I moved out of my hometown. Ten years later, I still feel like a stranger in this new place but I dont know the world I use to anymore
They did a really good job with the awkwardness mixed with tension. AJ comes at just the right moment as a reminder of the backdrop to the entire discussion, her obligations as a mother and wife, but also as a reminder of obligations she might secretly want to escape. Then there is the tea kettle going off. You also have to think about Tony. Tony has his affairs and gets away with them; Carmella has to balance fantasy with reality. His presence looms over the scene. It’s not just that she’s tired of him, it’s his infidelity and lack of attention. But he’s also a mob boss and that fact introduces an element of real danger.
At 2:18 as he talks about no communication and reveals his yearning for true love, Carmela's eyes show that she was at that moment there for the taking. If he'd leaned forward and kissed her, I'm not sure she could have stopped herself even with AJ there.
Off topic; I can relate to what he was saying. About going back to your first country: you feel like a stranger, and you realise it's not your home anymore. However, I cannot relate with most of the people in my new country -people are different from what I'm used to when growing up. And you find yourself belonging nowhere....
AJ being the oblivious idiot is what his character is all about, brilliant use of him in all the Carmela Furio scenes, he's not the focus in the slightest, but he's crucial to the scene in the way Carmela uses him.
The pot steaming and whistling symbolizing Furio’s aggravation at always coming close to telling her how he really feels but something always stopping him haha.
David Chase did the audio commentary for this episode on the season 4 DVD. He said that Carmella would always see Furio with Anthony because if anyone ever were to accuse her of anything she had Anthony there to back her up. Because never would a married woman of a mob boss be alone with another man, so this was the safe way to get around that. It's especially apparent the time previous to this episode where they are outside and Carm is "helping" Furio with the renovations. She says to Anthony "Stay right there!". Like she is so concerned for him to stay there for proof.
No matter what carmela wouldn't have been happy. She would have ended up complaining that Furio didn't make as much money . If you look at it Tony and carmella were the perfect couple . She knew Tony wasn't faithful as long as she didn't know who or when she was ok . Tony knew to keep her happy he needed to buy her things and give her money.
The character of AJ seems to exist solely to 1. interrupt intimate moments, 2. divulge information to the worst possible people at the worst possible time, 3. exist as a whiny man-child who expects the world to be handed to him without him having put in any effort whatsoever.
No he didn't he's a moron. He even talked about it later with meadow about how annoying it was to go over there all the time, she figured it out immediately though.
Human beings are meant to have open relationships, and falling in and out of love is natural. Carmela is just holding it all in to explode on Tony later, while Tony takes care of his business when he needs to. You know it's true.
Furio: 'You know, I feel bad I didn't give you something. I bring something, but I forgot it when I left that morning. Balsamic shinebox. 35 years. From my sister's husband's family.'
Furio in the earlier seasons : stupid faking game!!! i kill u give me thousand dollars!! Furio in the later seasons : something changed....something inside me....i feel so alone i like to clean
David Chase is the master of symbolism on tv show. That coffee kettle sound during midway their conversation symbolized the sexual tension between these two. And I just realized that Carmela didn't even drink that coffee after Furio boiled them.
I think she brings Anthony bc she knows she couldn’t resist scoring with Furio without him around.. I mean.. who wouldn’t?.. it’s also ironic that when she feels that Furio is a more acceptable partner, a little version of Tony (Anthony) comes in and acts all aggressive 😂 love this show
:18.. Furio ...in that instance he was like "why da fack isa thisa little turda dooina here, because ifa he wasn't mya grande salisiccia woulda be ina youra madres hairya fish pie". At 2:08 Carmela got flooded in the pooty region . The tea pot boiling was a perfect metaphor for this scene. David Chase and his writers are/were brilliant. Also, when AJ walked in ( another great metaphor) he acted like Tony does towards Carmela, that's why she had the look of so many different thoughts and emotions on her face.
