I think he kind of knew it was an act. He knew they had a plan, that's why he said "something tells me you have a suggestion", but he was flattered nonetheless. He only did it to make everyone recognize his power, and this little show was enough to satisfy him. He was cruel to get everyone's attention, but he was fair to keep the peace.

@@katana2k thing is, despite Uncle Jun turning out like he did, he was pure gangster, and always felt he wasn't given what he was owed. It all boiled down to likeability and politics: Tony and Jackie were more charismatic, whereas Junior never gave a shit about whether he was liked or not. The series implies he was always a good earner, and he had a chip on his shoulder because Jackie was chosen by old man DiMeo to be his successor when it should've been Junior. We don't know the politics beforehand: all we know is that Johnny Soprano was very well liked and respected, that he and Junior had significant influence in the family. Maybe old man DiMeo disliked Junior, or saw Junior and the Soprano clan as threats (in the end , the DiMeo family ended up run by the Sopranos anyway), which is why he ascended Jackie to boss, who knows. By all accounts Junior should've become boss immediately after Jackie's death, but the captains were greedy and didn't like the way Junior ran things (he had, understandably, a chip on his shoulder). Couple that with the fact that Junior had no family and you can understand why he was so angry. (I don't take many saints as canon, Junior isn't an incompetent weasel). In the end, like in politics, the mob was all about money and charisma: Junior wasn't charismatic and didn't let others earn as much as they wanted. I have a lot of sympathy for Uncle Jun. You can tell he was well respected in the 80's as capo of his own crew, and the respect Feech and Richie pay him, two old school guys.

He puts his feet on his lawyers’ desk and pretends to know everything. He has people killed when he feels slighted, which is normal, but he doesn’t seem to have a stomach for it.
