Name dropping without weight surprisingly enough actually happens in these circles. Michael Franzese recounted a story where some genius tried to use HIS father's name against him, saying he'll give a call to Sonny Franzese have his son Michael up here. Needless to say, Michael wasn't impressed.
@@Donnie8888 funny thing: it was from a yt-video where he played mafia 2. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ycFziHLcxdY.html he starts telling the story from 04:40.
@@christophermoltisanti9629 it was a tv tray. Tony told me. He never lies. Told me about my Uncle Richie being a rat too. He's like a fawtha to me only outta respect to my fawtha
I can only imagine his college interview: Name? "I carry my father's name" Address? "My father's house" Why did you choose this degree? "For my father's condition" Goals? "Follow in my father's footsteps" Where do you see yourself in 5 years? "Next to my father"
"Your uncle's a rat" "That's my uncle you're talking about" That doesn't sound right. Replacing "uncle" with "father's brother" both lets the viewer enjoy a bit of the ol' Jackie Jr showtune while also letting him come back at Tony with some gravitas. Edit: It's Richie's relationship with Jackie Jr's father that's important in those lines, not his relationship with Jackie Jr. "Father's brother" (seemingly) carries weight.
If you ask me, it would've been better if it gave life to Jackie's fawtha, because, when he was acting boss, it all got straightened out art the end of the day.
@Look How They Massacred My RU-vid actually i think he really liked his nephew. He even says at one point how he wished he was his son instead of his nephew.
@@adamkhan9514 yeah, he seems slightly annoyed when he's talking to his superiors, but he's saying the right things. If he wasn't a dumbass, he could have made it in the family
You know who my Fawtha was? He did 20 years in the can with the Shah of Iran. Made shineboxes in the prison work shop. Made Tony Soprano a bust of Gary Cooper.
One thing I like about Jackie's character is how he goes from being background and comic relief to a serious issue that polarizes everyone's relationships
I think he had potential to be a made guy, he just needed a good mentor. Tony wouldn't mentor him and Ralphie was a horrible influence. I felt like he hated him too.
Well.... he is an example of what not to do when you are young and stupid. Listen to the wise and experienced and you will get to pass wisdom to the future generations
It bears repeating that likely the robbery which Jackie Aprile and Tony Soprano committed, which they were later "forgiven" for, was: 1) Perpetrated on a very unpopular wise guy (Feech La Manna) 2) Did not result in anyone getting shot 3) Likely cool and professional 4) Likely authorized secretly ahead-of-time by the boss, or at the very least by a captain, for the purpose of whipping the unpopular wise guy (Feech La Manna) back into line. My estimation is that Feech La Manna was suspected of running his own little operation off the reservation, just as he tried to do with Tony. He probably got caught doing that exact thing multiple times, then would get annoyed and pretend he was eventually going to kick the appropriate share upstairs. Because he was still a good earner and it would have looked bad to just whack him without more serious misconduct, the solution was to humiliate him. The bosses targeted a card game Feech was running in secret and had the young guys rob it. While the bosses would deny ever giving orders for such a thing - being against the rules - the bosses, in their refusal to punish the young upstarts for the robbery, were clearly sending a message to Feech and anyone else who had ideas about running their own operation. None of these little details were shared with Jackie Jr, so when he tried to imitate his father's famed robbery, all he did was guarantee he was going to get whacked.
It's guesswork, but well-reasoned imo. I don't recall ever hearing anyone say that DiMeo, Johnny, Jun, Pussy, etc. didn't like Feech, but the ultra-light punishment given to robbing a made guy's game stinks of more than just nepotism. Feech is usually mentioned in an admiring fashion, however, before we see him out of the can when reminiscence is happening. The dislike for Feech comes when he starts stepping on toes once he's released (just like we see happen with every single one of them). Richie, Animal B, the Shah, and Robert Loggia didn't stick around very long after getting out.
Jarl Knudsen if I remember correctly didn’t Ralphie kinda tell him that story to manipulate him into doing something stupid? It’s been a while since I’ve watched the series but for some reason I remember that being a thing. Oh and I think your analysis is spot on.
A small note. The direction with the first scene is faultless. Tony responds to Jackie “Those who want respect...” and then he immediately focuses his eyes on Richie and continues “give respect”. It’s like he’s addressing both of them simultaneously, while also summing up their personas and character arcs entirely.
Jackie father didn't want this life for him, it shows in many ways it shows how his parents brought him up, the same with Tony's kids. So the only reference Jackie has of that life is from movies and creates his own little bubble around it. What Jackie forgot is his dad didn't become boss by being nice and thats all his saw at home
Always picked the loose cannons (Richie and Ralph) to try and eek his way into the life after Tony turned him down. Both put bad ideas and stories in his head and wound up getting him clipped. Unrelated but funny coincindence; Janice wound up with both of em.
Jackie Jr's ego, in combination with his own stupidity, got him killed. He never figured out that if he wasn't smart enough to get through med school, he certainly wasn't smart enough to make it in the mob. Ralph manipulated that kid right into his grave.
Most people always create their images for their hopes and dreams from media. Stories, books, music, movies, seriesses and games. But real life is messy, problematic, complicated, sad, insane, crazy, wicked, cursed, living and alive.
@Evilbones76 Christopher getting made probably didn't help in him wanting to take it slow and earn respect. Jackie thought based just solely on who his father was that as soon as he wanted to be he could become a made guy. But difference between him and Christopher is Chris put in the time and didn't get successful based solely on his name.
Jackie Jr always kept bring up his father's name thinking that was always going to save him. But it didn't. But Jackie Jr wasn't that foolish. He was the only one to pick up on Ralphie's weird sexual behavior.
@@intercommerce Ralph has a bunch of weird sado-masochistic sexual fetishes. Janice talks about it at one point and I'm pretty sure that Jackie's mom mentions it at least in passing.
What this channel needs next is a video of every time Phil says how long he's been in the can. I forget how long that was but I remember it was quite a long time.
What I love about the Sopranos is the fact that even though i hated Jackie Jr, i still loved to hate him. That's what makes great writing and a great character...even if you hate what the character stands for...you still enjoy the contribution they make to the show.
At 0:33 with his sunglasses 🕶 and leather jacket 🧥 he always reminded me of when David Flair turned bad guy in WCW, another guy who made his name because of his Father...
Dang i realised i had a jackie jr moment. One night while drinking with friends, i got too drunk, lifted up my friend over my shoulder when he tried to put me on a chokehold for a laugh and...fell flat on my face splitting my head open. At the hospital they had a cop to ask us about what happened seperately. Problem is, i was too drunk. When he asked me where I live i just said "at my fathers house" and tried to call him at 3 am lmao
One time I friend told me he set his father on fire for Father’s Day. It was a joke and he was drunk. However the cops charged him with murder and he is still in prison to this day dating back from 1999.
There where hints of a real young man under pressure trying to find his way. Say about AJ what you want, he didnt get people killed. Not even himself.... And he tried. But Jacky was spoiled and he sucked at school. So what was he ever supposed to idealize?
aj didnt get anyone killed but he sure sucked ass, at least jackie provided some comic relief. Only thing aj ever did was say "i dont know" whenever someone asked him something. Like you said he couldnt even off himself, completely useless
