Johnny Sack plans a unsanctioned hit on Ralph Cifaretto for making a joke about Ginny. In this scene, he catches Ginny eating junk and Ralph almost gets whacked. Also apologies about the sound, it's a little out of sync.
That subtle line of “why is the door unlocked” just proves how Ginny didn’t even bother to do anything, she just went directly for her box of snacks as soon as the door closed
I think the line was put there to make us, the audience, suspect that someone else (a man) had come in through the door. The whole scene is setup like he's about to catch his wife cheating with another man, while instead she was cheating in a different way. Instead, when you realize what she's actually doing, you realize that she just didn't lock the door cause she wanted to get right to the snacking.
He doesnt insult her or lets out his anger on her either, no matter how stressed he was at work, he's always so gentle when he talke to her. This was only the probably the only time he got angry at her because she lied about the diet, and he didnt even ask her to loose weight
+Jenni McDuff Bobby wasn't really a gangster, all he does 90% of the show is wipe Junior's ass. He wouldn't hurt a fly, even though is dad was the fucking terminator. A telytubby born into a mafia family, and I do mean tubby.
I teared up a little at the scene with Johnny Sack and Ginny in the basement. It's so wonderfully sweet to have a moment of real affirmation of love in a show with so many hateful relationships. Johnny's unconditional love for Ginny was an amazing contrast with the stage of Ralph and the joke.
I believe he was whacked because of Tracee and the horse. She was a beautiful innocent creature, what did she do to you? It was three things that got Ralph killed.
@@redbullrave8951not really tracee. Its a red herring by the showrunners. Its like plausible deniability. Maybe he did feel sorry for tracee after associating her in his mind with meadow. Or maybe we've been charmed by a criminal.
John is an emotional man. Loves his wife. While this quality of him might make others' estimations of him as a man fuckin plummet, I find it endearing.
I'm amazed by all the comments who overlook the fact that Ralphie was literally just about to get whacked over a private joke about her weight. Johnny was enraged not by the candy, or even the lie on its own ... But by the fact he was about to whack a made guy over her, and she's there hoarding candies. That's why he calls the hit off. I mean, what do people think they are watching in this clip ? ... They think the Ralfie juxtaposition is a coincidence or something ?
@@DD-co1zn Yeah, I get that. I do. It's just contrasting the characters. How the situation came about is almost harmless, but it became a choice between the life of two men; A choice between Ralphie the woman-beating child-killing psychopath or the Johnny Sacrimoni, a good husband who loves his wife unconditionally. The altercation was just an excuse, like getting Al Capone for tax evasion.
@@DD-co1zn I actually didn’t pick up on that, I was too drawn into Ginny and Johnny. However you are right. While still hold my original statement, your statement is just as true. I think Johnny may have come to his senses in that moment.
Lol, the Asian actor had one job, one tiny scene and totally ROCKED it, made that scene totally unforgettable! This is WHY the show was so well done, the tiny details were so remarkable
@xxx xxx Johnny Sack wanted Ralphie killed because he made a joke about Johnny's wife, Ginny. He said she had a 90-pound mole removed from her ass. You don't make a joke about a made guy's wife in the mob, an insult to a made guy's wife is an insult to the guy himself. Johnny said Ralph 'violated' his wife's honor. And it was called off because Johnny got over it at the very last second. Ralph was a second away from being whacked.
He may have been a mobster but Johnny Sack had the most class of them all. Sadly, Denise Borino-Quinn who played Ginny Sac died of cancer in 2010 having previously lost 175 lbs via stomach stapling, she was only 46, and died only months after he husband passed away himself. She seemed to have a genuine kindness and sweetness about her that really showed in her performances.
Azure It was her first acting role. She auditioned and got the job. I thought she was the mom in "What's eating Gilbert Grape," but I was wrong. RIP Denise.
Azure thanks for that, I wasn't aware...some of these bit actors in these shows are in our memories if we have viewed these shows....but many of them continue to be "unknowns" and we never really hear about how they are faring nowadays...unless its some legal trouble or poor Jimmy RIP
Azure Most class? You know how many hits he has ordered without any approval? He only recognized violence as the only answer. Never considered anything else first.
@@vaxcucksbelongintheovens7991 Hitmen don't give a shit who and what you are...he was looking at Ralph as a meal, and his next big meal if he hit a high profile guy like Ralph, his stock goes up.
You know, a lot of times I think people point out details like this and they seem like reaches but this is extremely believable and makes perfect sense.
@@VincentK.McMahon Hell. During the 30s and into the early 40s, the ‘designated hitters’ of the Commission were the largely Jewish gangsters (with a few Italians mixed in) of Murder, Inc. Gangsters from Brownsville, Williamsburg, and Ocean Hill Brooklyn.
It also prevent the mafia from tracing it back to the made guy that orchestrated the hit as it's agaisnt the rules to kill another made man without orders. You get found out and you die as well.
I love how this scene was shot like an affair. Door's unlocked, Ginny's on her knees wiping her lips, Johnny grabbing her... Such an emotional exchange with trust at stake, it's wholesome and sad all at once, brings me to tears 😭
RIP Denise. You gave the character of Ginny depth & relatability, & made us feel for her. Us fans of the Sopranos will never forget you, & you will live forever on film. Although cancer ultimately took your life, you will be dearly missed.
@@eddiewinehosen6665 No, she died of liver cancer, and so far there is no concrete evidence that obesity is linked. Of course weight problem's damage you're overall health but to claim obesity killed her is ignorant and untrue. Liver cancer killed her, which effects fat and thin people alike, just like with heavy drinkers and teetotal people.
Johny Sack was not angry about the sweets and candies, but hes so mad about Ginny lied to him about the diet. thats true love right there, mafioso style.
She wasn’t even a trained actor. She accompanied her friend to a Sopranos casting call and was literally plucked out of the crowd and ended up landing the roll. She did an incredible job with how little experience she had!
Yeah he wasn't like the others. He loved his wife despite her weight problem. I was upset how Johnny Sack ended up. He was a very respectable character in the Sopranos.
***** I agree with you he was a very problematic and a lousy Boss. Tony advised him not to become Boss as he knew the risks. I have the Sopranos DVD box set and I watch my favorite episodes .
I thought I did it turned out she was nuts. I loved her so much I didn't notice. But when she wanted to be a whore man that blew my mind. The men said I would have thrown her out naked and made her walk. The woman said that what she said was low not even they could have said that to their men. Then said no u should have bloody her face then throw her out naked.
One of the most comically warm hearted scenes in the show. Then there's Ralphie who I wouldn't have felt anything for had he gotten it right there lol.
This scene sums up what is important to Johnny. When Ginny says "it's the world John - our culture" - he kicks the box in anger and says "fuck that". Just shows how much their supposed culture means to him and follows that up by showing his anger that she lied to him and that hurt more than anything. When it came to his marriage - John had his priorities right.
Julio Laborde The guy robs and kills people, and you say he's virtuous because he's good to his wife? Lol. Johnny is probably one of the worst characters on this show causing much of the blood shed in the last 2 seasons.
***** In comparison to the other characters, he has more virtues than him. As a person yeah he kills people and alot better if you don't associate with him. But he at least has some desirable "character" qualities.
Julio Laborde Even compared to other characters he's still one of the most greedy, power hungry, and ruthless characters on the show. He had a woman killed, because she wouldn't kick up to him, even though he had no right to ask her to since he wasn't the boss yet. Just because the guy is good to his wife, it doesn't make up for all the horrible things he's done.
***** osamabad, grow up. If you think only bad people in your eyes "robs and kills people" you must have been born last night. Throughout history the most influential, respected, people have done those same acts... For example lets not go too far, USA's founders "Robbed" the natives of their land and "killed" them.
That last 30 seconds with Ralph was truly chilling. Ralphie legit didn’t know how close he came to death, he was staring death in the eyes in that elevator. 😅
This is why the Sopranos was such a fantastic show. Characters all had depth and substance. Even someone as brutal as Johnny Sacks had a soft, loving side and it made you feel for him.
That's a touching scene between John and Ginny. It really shows what being in love with someone means and how marriage is a pledge of unconditional love to that person. I respected John's character for how much he loved Ginny-and how much it hurt him to hear people make fun of her.
"Do you have any idea what you've done?!" At first, I assumed John was yelling because he learned, upon discovering his wife's stash of candies, that she was partly responsible for the turmoil he had wrought upon the families. But then... "You lied to me! YOU LIED!" And that's when I realised John wasn't sweating over some mafia scuffle anymore. He was upset because Ginny felt the need to lie to him. He would have a thousand Ralphs killed before even considering the possibility that she doesn't trust him 100%. The man was a criminal, but at least he had his priorities straight.
exec9292 lol seriously what are these people talking about honor. Every person on this show was a dishonorable piece of shit. OK except maybe Meadow...
Zachary Bell yeah, but I think Johnny took the insult too heavily Ralph was such a good earner that he should've considered that before trying to have him clipped
The great job this show did casting small parts never ceases to amaze. The hitman, frosted tips aside, is so cool and confident in his interactions and the way he studies Ralph in the elevator makes my skin crawl everytime. Why is he just staring at him? So good!
@@Dayvalo202 my theory is because Ralph ask him if he’s getting out at the pool, asain guy says no, then Ralph clicks the button for what looks like the top floor in the elevator, so when Ralph gets out and the Asian guy has now just been from bottom floor to top without getting out, hence the “what’s your fucking problem” only when he Ralph gets out and notices the other guy didn’t follow
Him and Bobby were the only ones apparently. Even the guys with the more stable and even affectionate marriages like Silvio and Patsy at the very least fucked around with the bing girls.
Ralph was at least smart enough to not say anything while in the elevator. That guy looks like he would have taken Ralph apart with his bare hands. You get a strong sense that this hit man enjoys his "work."
Enjoyed his work? Thats why he brought a gun to make it quick. U dont know what your talking about. Yeah he looked crazy but not some psycho who will take his time hes the type to shoot u 3 times in the head n run away
actually it is sciencetifically proven that your brain gets addicted to sugar and I dont mean eating a pack of M&M's but more simple things like after years of eating sugar most people cannot imagine for example having a coffe without a sugar
Somehow this scene really touches me in an emocional way. Johnny Sack was a very bad man, but his love for his wife and family was stronger than Tony's, who is the protagonist.
Pissflaps Magee This is the greatest moment of my life. Everyone reading this, please come to our wedding! Dreams do come true! Thank you youtube for this!
Ginny sack slim would have left all the other Soprano character's wives in the dust. She and Artie Buccoo's wife were absolutely gorgeous in the face. Adrianna was alright too.
This was such a GREAT couple! It’s super refreshing when guys are actually nice to their wives on this show, and Jon treated Ginny like a queen. I really only remember him raising his voice at her in a negative, unprovoked manner one time, and it’s not even this moment. He actually had a decent reason to be upset here.
As a woman that's struggled with weight loss, this scene made me almost cry. It's such a wonderful feeling to be loved for who you are. He loved his family so much. A real man.
Johnny loved Ginny unconditionally. He never once judged her or let the opinions of those around him change the way he looked at her (which he affirms her of gently). She thought she had become undesirable in his eyes because others found her to be so, but Johnny’s perspective of her never changed. a truly devoted man. that’s real love.
a detail I just noticed about this scene -- when Johnny yells, Ginny isn't scared because she knows he would never hurt her. Any of the other mob wives would be terrified
Kudos to Johnny for staying true to Ginny, despite her weight issue. Many women would be interested in him for his money, power and intrigue of the mob life, despite the fact he was married. He really did love Ginny. True love overcomes physical appearance. Well done Johnny! ❤❤❤👏👏👏
Believe it or not I found it pretty inspiring when Johnny Sack says "F*ck that!" when Ginny thinks she needs to be in conjunction with society's expectations for women. Screw what this screwed up society wants.
+MJSpiritual That's ok up to a point but when you have mobility carts at walmart utilized mostly by sealions there's a real problem. That was one of the most shocking things I saw in America
+Faketrollname sevenbillion Truth, like having something to hold on to when you make love is good. Running the risk of being Kermit from that "The Fattest Fat Loser" sketch in Robot Chicken is bad.
***** Dude, the hitman was about to kill Ralph. Ginny got caught too early. If only Ginny didn't get caught, Ralph would've died, then Johnny Sack would've died, and Carmine could've made Little Carmine the new underboss (making it harder for Phil to become boss). It would actually be more beneficial if the Asian dude dropped Ralph before Johnny caught Ginny snacking.
I loved this little story line. He loved his wife and didn’t have a goomah. Rest In Peace to Denise Borino-Quinn who died of cancer at the aw of 42 in 2010.
Ginny Sack's wife, actress Denise Borino-Quinn had a lot of scenes & wasn't a high profile member of The Sopranos, but this was by far her best scene. RIP.
i don'at blame that asian dude for being pissed, once he prepares for the hit hes already committed a crime and they call it off at the last second? id be like wtf lol
@James Nuttes spooky, do you do bat mitzvahs? Can you communicate with the dead or does your power only extend to predicting peoples form of residence?
I'm going to have to watch this entire series again. I watch bits n pieces online on RU-vid every now and then and I think to myself I don't remember watching this back in the day. What a great show
4:01 I'm surprised Ralphie didn't pick up the clue when the hitman said, "I want half." I would be on edge at that moment if I heard somebody say that on the phone looking right at me...
