I hadn't thought about it because I'm listening for crunch, but he does have great presence and a pleasant voice. I'd probably appreciate the quality of his delivery more in something like a story-based format and I love those. If he branches out I'll be all in on it, but I will have to give him more credit for presentation on his chosen optimization topics from here out.

I've been using twin spell bless for my larger party campaign and it's been awesome!

​@jakecaswell3903 I don't think as written, you are able to cast bless with twinned, since twinned specifies that it must be a spell that targets one creature.

Also, as a DM, I'm using those builds to set up rivals for my group, or enemy bounty hunters if my players go full murder hobo.

If you’re looking to spice it up (ignore that I’m a year late) ask your DM if there’s a way you could add a race wheel where you get to roleplay a random race until you get Aasimar (after a race is played and broken, more on it later, they get replaced by Aasimar). And you play as an Eldrich horror slowly gaining power by taking over other bodies and growing stronger until you are so corrupted and powerful that you can plunge the world into darkness, my DM was chill with it as I grew stronger, more evil and overall scarier

an eloquence bard + clockwork/wild sorc is the best controller in the game. throw in 2 levels of fighter for action surge,, proficiency and fighting style.

Agreed. Actually imo pure roleplayers muck up the fun more as they are suboptimal and tend to be the reason for tpks and restarting the campaign.

@@TheRobversion1 imo either extreme *can be bad, but that is why it is a cooperative game. If a character is built in isolation it just might not fit the game, in many more ways than just stat optimisation

@@jiminkpen9750 imo the build is irrelevant which is why i say it's RPers and not optimizers who muck up the game. the issue is people. builds by their nature aren't uncooperative or cooperative. they simply are efficient or not. what can cause problems are people. efficient builds work better. optimizers tend to use this. inefficient builds dont work well. RPers tend to use this. let me illustrate: 1. optimizer with an optimized build who's willing to adjust/change his build for people, accomodate other people, teach people how to optimize and plays within the party concept. The party will succeed in their encounters and plot beats seamlessly. 2. optimizer with an optimized build who wants to outshine other people and hog the spotlight. takes an antagonistic stance towards other party members by getting the best loot everytime. the party will succeed in their encounters but not their plot beats seamlessly. 3. an RPer with an unoptimized build who's very inclusive and accomodating of everyone. someone who's willing to teach people how to RP, doesn't seek to hog the spotlight everytime and enables people to get into RPing by making it fun (accents, voices, gestures, facial expressions). the party will get through the plot beats seamlessly but won't succeed in all their encounters. 4. an RPer with an unoptimized build who hogs the spotlight and seeks to outshine other people. treats other party members as tools for resolving their backstory. doesn't seek to enable other party members to RP and demands stuff from the DM to make up for their character's lack of optimization in combat (magic items, fudged rolls, boons, etc). the party will get through the plot beats but not seamlessly. they also won't succeed in all their encounters. Can you see which player archetype is the worse player to have on the table? an optimized build is just a tool. its the type of player that should concern people.. a hammer that works well isn't bad. a hammer in the hands of the wrong person will work bad. a person without a hammer is as good as the person with a broken hammer.

@@TheRobversion1 whilst your examples can be accurate they don't illustrate that there is also the extreme of optimisers who kill the fun by telling the other players what to do in combat (and sometimes out of it). It might make the combat successful but takes away the fun from other players. That's all I was trying to say. (As Brian far more elegantly and succinctly said)

@@jiminkpen9750 again what you're talking about is people and imo what you described falls under #2. and yes those people are annoying when they are persistent. my point is the problem is players, people. not the optimized build in of itself. an optimized build is a tool and it's up to the player to use it for ill or good. depending on the player. my 2nd point is that since RPers don't use optimized builds, if you have a jerk of a player, they are both not nice to have both in and out of combat. a good RPer would be nice to have out of combat but not in combat. a jerk optimizer is bad to have out of combat and while useful to have in combat are un-fun to play with. a good optimizer is good to have both in and out of combat (and imo is the ideal player type to play with).

All great suggestions! Also, as much as I love the idea of starting with a +3 Cha bonus, I hate the idea of giving up what you get from the Drow Half Elf... especially Elven Accuracy. But yeah, Pact of the Chain is the way to go for sure.

The Imp familiar you get from pact of the chain is not an actual imp. It has been stated many times by Crawford and others that that pact of the chain Imp does not Grant magic resistance. in addition with the latest ever on book you can no longer put your floating +1 as a changeling into charisma

One small thing to note, if you cast a spell as a bonus action, like a quickened eldritch blast, then the ONLY other spell you can cast on your turn is a cantrip with a casting time of one action. So you can Quicken Darkness, Action Eldritch Blast. But you cannot Action Darkness, Quicken Eldritch Blast.

Thanks! And good point on the Greater Invis - I didn't worry *as much* about how disruptive Darkness can be for others with this build simply because you're ranged and hopefully not messing up your allies, but if it's a problem, going Greater Invis is definitely a nice option.

@@DnDDeepDive agreed here colby. darkness isn't disruptive at ranged. the fog cloud + blind fighting style combo works the same and isn't disruputive either.

Technically you'd quicken darkness, my mistake. Usually it works out the same, but i mention it because of the limitation of only one metamagic per spell, so you couldnt distance double darkness and quicken eldritch in same round

Xanathar's has rules on skipping long rests! Exhauation is a con save dc 10. Increasing by 5 each day you skip.

@ this thread, two things: 1. You've glossed over the thing that puts the "coffee" in coffeelock, which is Aspect of the Moon. Tomelock that takes it doesn't need to sleep, so no real way to justify throwing Exhaustion at them for breaking up their long rest into short rests as coffeelock is wont to do. If you as a DM think it's too strong, and your player wants to bring it to the table, talk things over with them to avoid a potential problem with them overshadowing the party (and don't be afraid to ultimately say no if the other players aren't big on combat optimization). If you as a PC think it's too strong, then don't roll one, or at least bring it up at session zero and see if the rest of your party is trying to build optimally. Coffeelock is hardly the only super strong build in this game, as this channel demonstrates pretty well. 2. Don't forget to dip Trickery Cleric! You can cast spells from the position of your Invoke Duplicity clone, squeezing an extra 120 feet of range for a total of 1320 feet. Also, not sure if RAW, but if your DM lets you shoot through an Arcane Gate, you can up that by hundreds of feet more!

Hm... I think if it were me, I'd probably grab those Warlock levels first. It might hurt once in awhile when you wish you would've had fireball, but outside of that, your round after round damage will be a lot higher with that Eldritch Blast spam (not to mention your own survivability!). Have fun!

Depends on the concept. I've actually played a clockwork with hexblade dip. The build though required a certain party comp (it has to be the only one in melee). It was a melee caster that tried to be the tank. Here's the level 10 build (revenger): fighter 2, clockwork 7, hexblade 1 tiefling asi: flames of phlegethos key spells: armor of agathys, fire shield, hellish rebuke, green flame blade metamagic: seeking spell, quicken spell tactics: pre-combat: put up max bastion of law. restore sorc points to max by converting 1st-2nd level spell slots. Tell party member to hang back while you go in first to draw aggro. 1st round: bonus action: hexblade's curse the bbeg action: fire shield action surge: upcasted 3rd level armor of agathys reaction: hellish rebuke basically hope the bbeg hits you since you're the only "reachable target." everytime they hit you, they take 15 (armor of agathys) + 2d8+4 (fire shield) + 1d4+4 (flames of phlegethos) + 2d10 +4 (hellish rebuke). So yes, hitting this hero will hurt. bastion of law helps keep the temp hp on armor of agathys fresh. 2nd round onwards: action: replenish bastion of law or armor of agathys if it's depleted bonus action: quickened green flame blade to re-activate flames of phlegethos overall a very sturdy hero vs. martial opponents/fire or cold dmg and punishes attackers. Weakness is DM can ignore once your squishier party members are in range.

Right, you wouldn't be able to. I'd assume you would probably Quicken Darkness on round 1 and then Eldritch Blast, and on Round 2, summon your spiritual weapon and Eldritch Blast.

Crossbow Expert might be nice to let you hit targets in melee range without disadvantage. Resil Con and/or Warcaster are good for your Concentration checks, or just bumping Constitution...

I'd combine feytouched: dissonant whispers with warcaster. lucky, alert, martial adept are always good picks.

I have a similar build in mind. Although I'm not sure how many spells I'll eat as twin casting will probably be more common so others can shine. It's definitely a build where you can either be support or be the spotlight.
