The Sound Couple is off to another wedding that's held at a venue that we have not had the pleasure of hearing it's take on acoustics!
You will notice that with all of the extra time we had and the fact that Stacy isn't there for most of it, this left Bart to do a lot of talking and provided a great opportunity to mess some things up...We got ourselves into a last minute lighting "situation".
Before that all goes down, we take the opportunity to provide an overview of Luminair: luminair.app
We hope you enjoy this tale of the lights and more importantly, see how we manage through some typical challenges of the big wedding day.
The Sound Couple primarily use PreSonus gear featuring:
PreSonus UC Surface
PreSonus CDL12
PreSonus CDL18s
PreSonus 32R
PreSonus SW5E
PreSonus NSB Stageboxes
PreSonus AVB-D16
Please see our "About" for a more comprehensive list of gear we use.

I'm a musician/sound guy at heart and started with lights a bit more seriously a couple of months back. There are so many ways things can go wrong if you're not on top of things at all times. Have pulled my hair a fair share of times because of all kinds of weird issues :D

I must say i'm not a huge fan of RCF stuff. We used to have 3 RCF wedge monitors on tour for a couple of years. Their power supplies often died and we had to replace the drivers at least 5 times or so. Luckily we're all on inear monitoring now

Oh boy, My Favorite! Glass walls, gloss concrete, small room, drums (you were missing 8 wedges and a deaf guitar player for the perfect A1 experience).... Keeping the volume down is a true handful. Oddly, sometimes its better to add (2) more subs to offset the sharpness. It will push your SPL up a bit. Its easy to create pain 1k and up realm. Below 80hz it takes a ton of power to cause the same level of pain.
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple 6 месяцев назад
I can understand where you are going with that. We do feel that the CDL cabinets offset some of these potential issues...they are a very smooth sounding cabinet which is a good attribute in environments like this.
@TalentLe8159

When running P2 on subs does that like add more volume to the meter and makes it close to clipping on the subs or just adds like some more juice to the low end and happy holidays and happy new year guys ❤

Remember there are options for these...you can make one or have one made. When supplied, it is more common for us to run into one that was built (hopefully by a qualified person) from mounting an electrical panel and outlets onto a piece of plywood and wiring it all up. Otherwise, there are options like we have that will likely be more expensive.

Hey Bart! On those iPad's you can use split screen. Its not supported with 100% compatible with every app however it is worth a shot. I'm sure you press those 3 dots at the very top of the screen and it gives you options. I'm not 100% sure how to do it but I know that its an option. There will be instructions on google lol

I'm giving very serious consideration to getting Luminair, as I have been putting together a wireless lighting system for use at my sound gigs (if I can avoid running DMX cables in addition to audio cables, setup/striking is a bit easier). It looks like I would just need to get an interface (Enttec perhaps?) to connect to my MacBook and a wireless transmitter to plug into the interface (like the Donner that you use, for example) to make the lights shine. Yes? Simple setup, very small footprint.

Thank you 😊 I actually watched that episode a couple of hours before this one. But, I'm not quite sure about the wifi router. I'm not using a network for my lighting, so could I not just go straight into the interface from my MacBook?
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple 5 месяцев назад
I think if you ran an ethernet cable from your Mac to the Enttec, it would work. You can assign an IP address to the Enttec with their comanion application, but out of the box, it doesn't require that as it comes assigned with a factory default IP address. We did change the IP address of ours just to match our network. Bottom line, it may take some tweaking, but I cannot think of a reason why you couldn't make it work. @@Hyakman5408
@Hyakman5408
@Hyakman5408 5 месяцев назад
@thesoundcouple Thank you for the info! The Enttec that I'm considering (DMX USB Pro 512 channel) uses a USB connection, which is good as neither of my MacBooks has an ethernet port. The Chauvet DJ DFi XLR TX Wireless DMX Transmitter is what I would likely connect directly to the interface, in lieu of a DMX cable running here, there, and everywhere 😀 Each fixture currently has a Chauvet USB wireless DMX Transceiver plugged in.

ANYTHING that saves time! Time is the enemy. Build a custom cart to carry lights gear, have cables tied to racks this all takes time to locate and connect. Cost more but saves you on every show. Its also about the how gear is transported what works in a semi does not work in a van.

This video presents an excellent example of how a professional production company makes critical adjustments, in order to maximize their flexibility in handling unique time constraints. Bart and Stacy invested a good deal of thought and planning into how they can meet the requirements of the client and the management of this venue. There is a rather large gap in time that exists between when they must complete their set-up, when the band actually begins its performance, and how to meet the requirements of the venue for a prompt tear-down and load-out once the gig ends. We appreciate the tutorial that Bart gave us of the lighting control provided by the Luminair lighting control system that operates the DMX fixtures employed by The Sound Couple. It was also enjoyable to, once again, see the Squareodox 3D LED Effect Lighting fixtures in operation because these units add a very unique flavor to a gig. Bart also shows us how to calmly handle a last minute glitch of conflicting lighting apps simultaneously running on two computers. A sincere “Thank You!” to The Sound Couple for allowing us to learn from their approach to providing professional production at another unique venue.
