The Sound No PC Gamer Wants to Hear 😔

A few weeks ago I noticed that my NZXT PC was making a weird noise. At first I thought it must have been a loose fan screw. After tightening everything I could, the noise wouldn't go away. Turns out, the sound was air bubbles in my CPU cooler, specifically, the Kraken M22 from NZXT.
Luckily the parts were all under a 2-year warranty and NZXT sent out a new Kraken 120 no questions asked. Although my chat with support revealed something interesting...

Quick clarification: Yes, the cooler is upside down which is how NZXT had it installed when the PC was bought. This incorrect installation very likely led to it's downfall. 👉 Today's BEST Gaming Monitor Deals: www.techaudit.tv Grab the Kraken 120mm: 👉 Amazon: geni.us/EaKj7A 👉 Best Buy: shop-links.co/ckb6syGWmOx 👉 Newegg: shop-links.co/ckb6thmexI4

Moral of the story never get a 120mm aio 😅 Edit I made this as a joke, but okay yes there are plenty of better air cooler options out there it depends on your cpu. You have the Noctua you have deep cool and the Ak series, thermal right pa, you have so many options. The person in the video also is using a nzxt h510 case which is also known to be a hot box, I used to have one. From my experience and other videos I have seen 120mm aios aren’t great, if you’re gonna go aio 240 and up or do air cooling is all I’m saying. You can get a decently priced 240mm now a days doesn’t have to be nzxt. If anyone wants a 240 I can sell you an arctic liquid freezer 240 for like 60 bucks that I have laying around
@TM450FI

@Shyvorix
@Shyvorix Год назад
@@TM450FIYea from my experience I usually recommend 240 or, in some cases, 360mm aio's when client's running hella hot chips. But if it's a decent chip and someone just wants reliability at all cost and doesn't wanna deal with potential long term hassle (except just basic compressed air cleaning), I usually just recommend a noctua air cooler unless they want something a lil fancier in looks (but I usually just recommend chromax cause holy fuck the standard colors are fugly).

If you research before you buy, water cooling isn't that bad. It is how ever very expensive. I went straight into a custom loop, and I'm glad I did. It's more of a hobby than it is to play games or browse the web. I spent thousands just for the enjoyment of rebuilding my pc. I do however have to spend a bit extra due to living in communist controlled Canada to get good parts. It cost me about $600 to get an ekwb waterblock with an active backplate for my 3080ti shipped here. For me, it's worth it to get a little more out of my expensive pc to maintain it or rebuild it once in a while, and it makes me feel a bit safer overclocking my stuff for extra performance. If you want something to just do some casual gaming, Liquid cooling is wasted money. But if you want a hobby, that's a whole other story.

@@smokinlogs80085Yea the only time liquid AIOs come out better is in the top end chips like the 7950x3d or 13900K/KS but it's cause those chips are so goddamn energy-dense and power hungry they cook anything they're attached to so it's even been recommended if you can to go custom with them. But that's an exception, not the norm.
@bumbaliph

Pay no attention to the fact that the cooler is installed improperly. Your hoses need to be on the bottom of the cooler, not on the top. Installing it so that the hoses come out of the top of the radiator will cause an air pocket to collect at the hose junction and feed air to your water pump. Thus will cause noise, poor thermal performance, and will greatly shorten the life of your water pump. Install it with the hoses on the bottom next time. I'm sure you would rather deal with some light gurgling than poor thermal performance and a burned out water pump.

AIO loops fail because stupid people buy them who don't use common sense when installing them. Mounting it with the pipes upwards is grounds for it burning the pump out you should always have the pipes firing downwards. Iv ran these setups for 10+ years never an issue...

No. People should educate themselves and install their AIO units correctly and they are going to be as good as any air cooler. It is the persons preference at the end of the day, but it is irresponsible to base your judgment on ignorance.

Funny how I see this vid a little over a week after my work computer suffered the same exact issue on the same model AIO, except it also went the extra mile and screamed like it was being possessed by a demon. Methinks the radiator was upside down also, since it was an iBuyPower prebuilt. Ended up driving over to Best Buy to pick up a replacement, which was a Corsair H60X, and I had the radiator properly oriented this time. Can't attest to the temps, since the noise was far more noticeable at the time and I neglected to check that. but yeah, I'm certain that the old cooler I had was an OEM'd Kraken M22.

I had a water block cooler (in like 2010). It lasted maybe 2 years. I just went to a regular fan cooler after that, and it never had any problems. I don't think I'd ever go with liquid cooling again unless I was using some top of the line processor and overclocking it. Which I don't think I would ever do.

I moved back to Air recently. AIO's on my twin brothers PC's (identical spec) both failed in the same week. Those coolers did admittedly have a recall issue. My 360mm AIO failed a few months after (Silverstone). I was fed up and bought a Peerless Assassin. Very happy. Temp is lower when gaming, amazingly, and around the same idle.

Killed it by having the radiator installed tubes up instead of down where it would always have liquid. After a year enough coolant evaporates and the tubes only have access to the air trapped at the top, killing the pump.

I'm from Southern Louisiana, and we rarely have freezing cold days. But, one year I was in Illinois for work, and I left my PC in my truck. The next night I set up my rig and it kept shutting down after a while. I was at a complete loss. About an hour later I realized that my water cooler froze up completely because it had NO antifreeze in it. It completely shot the pump. Lesson learned.

1. Check reviews to see if a product often fails. 2. Know how much cooling a part needs. Most CPUs are fine with air cooling 3. If you do decide to go with water cooling, get the maximum size your case supports. Also make sure that the pump isn't the highest point in the loop
@futuza
@futuza 3 месяца назад
4. Check how long the warranty on the cooler is for, don't expect the cooler to last longer than that. Especially for an AIO. 5. Make sure to maintain it regularly, clean out dust etc. If you notice anything fishy (starts getting noisy/temps spike), investigate and don't put it off. Pumps can fail, coolant can evaporate or gunk up and block the flow, metal can rust or plastic components dissolve over time. Air cooling is by far less risky, as if it fails it is unlikely to do so like an AIO/liquid cooler could: catastrophically spraying your running PC with liquid everywhere, potentially causing an electrical current to form between delicate components and the spilled liquid, shorting out circuitry or even causing a fire. (However please note that this is a very rare remote possibility with most liquid coolers, though the chance is never 0%). When an air cooler fails it usually just means the fan stops spinning and your CPU shuts itself off to prevent overheating. That said a good liquid cooler will almost always outperform an aircooler, so for very heavy overclocking or intense regular workloads (full 100% all core tasks with a CPU with 16+ cores), or high ambient temperature locations (45+° C), an AIO/liquid cooler may be the only solution that will prevent thermal throttling.
