The sound editing was Oscar worthy. A bomb goes off. Then 2 minutes of post concussive absolute silence. And the Jesse Plemons "What kind of American are you" scene steals the movie.

I liked the movie. I was really glad I saw it in IMAX there were some really beaututiful cinematic shots that were done well. I was never bored during the movie and the action scenes were well done. I don't regret seeing it and I'd recommend seeing it to others.

Hmmm... An odd movie -- since BUSHWICK was only made a few years before. BUSHWICK has a couple breakaway states taking on NYC to force a treaty. It was definitely a rightwing army, and what they forget is that though NYC really DOES have stringent gun laws, nobody obeys them so they run into more small arms and ammo fire than anywhere else. Worth searching around for because it came in, made a small splash in a few places, then dropped off the map. So far no one has drawn a line from that small movie to this more expensive one. Even though Dave (DUNE) Bautista shows up in BUSHWICK. The question to me: CIVIL WAR is a very similar movie, made right after BUSHWICK dropped off the map -- I think BUSHWICK came in 2017 so by '20, Garland would have known it would be forgotten by the time his came out. Civil WAR actually has some of BUSHWICK 's weaknesses -- it has somewhat indifferent characters and a weak plot also. At the same time the "enemy" is a bit vague in both too. CIVIL WAR has the advantage of a budget that tries to do justice to an idea, even if the idea is fuzzy. Right now, politics aside, Americans are stuck with a system they don't care much for but know that changing will cause a huge dislocation that would be WORSE than a war. Both CIVIL WAR and BUSHWICK should be seen as two interesting, if unsatisfying, attempts to look past where we are to where we MIGHT be if the wheels come off the wagon. A good way to see the present "stuck in gear" mode as the calm before... whatever comes next
