Thanks for watching! I'd love to hear your feedback: Did I remain in integrity in this video? Or should I not be sharing my opinions on sponsored content? Thanks in advance!
I thought it was fine. Any automatic assumption that any sponsored evaluation is rigged is unfortunate. More than once, explaining your position with your evaluation criteria was sufficient. Also, it didn't clash with other evaluations of this printer, which were all pretty positive.
I realize you need to produce videos people want to see. But there is a line in the sand somewhere between "I want to make content my viewers want to see." And " I'm afraid of saying a wrong word and suffering because of it." You make great content, trust that your viewers will let you know if you went too far one way or another. And then don't dwell on it much anyway. You got where you are trusting your gut, don't change THAT. There are too many haters and trolls just itching to rail anyone who accepts money and / or goods in order to make a living producing videos. Everybody's got to eat. Just be honest. That's all you need to do.
Pretty much came to the same conclusions! This thing is pretty impressive for the price once the profiles are dialed in (which I had to do in PS like you did in Orca haha). Only just discovered the other day that they've slapped a volcano style hotend into the SV07's hot end assembly this time - so it's got higher flow capability as well as the giant curtain fan to cool things faster.
Yep! I felt a LOT more comfortable coming out and saying "even though this video is sponsored, I want to share my opinions: it's great!" after seeing your video, Uncle Jessy's, and Joel's. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend... see you on the podcast soon :)
is this worth over the bambu lab A1, because i tend to find sv07 at around 310€, and at that price seems like bambulabs makes more sense... at what price would it make sense if any?
I bought a dual-head Zonestar kit six years ago as my first printer, and learned the frustration of manual bed leveling, slicer tweaks, cheap part failure, filament variables, etc. on it. Two days ago, after a week of cleaning, re-learning, and four successful prints, I fired it up to find the hot-bed no longer got hot, and had failed badly enough to melt the connections to the main board. Looking at the potential of spending $100-plus on a very dated printer, I started looking at options, and found the SV07. There are a handful of videos out here on this printer, and all of them have the same perspective - mine is now on order. You've done a fine job of discussing this printer, your assessment agrees with everyone else's I've seen/read, and you made full disclosure all the way through - I don't know how anyone could do better, and thank you for the effort.
Bought one of these a few months ago after watching this and a few others videos, still going strong and I’m beyond impressed. I’m actually gifting away my anycubic kobra 2 neo to my younger brother once I get another sv07 and sv07+ to replace the empty space. For making parts and having orders come in this is my go to print and walk away machine. Highly recommend for anyone getting into 3d printing for the first time or trying to upgrade their current fleet these are unbeatable.
I picked up the Sovol 6 as a back up for my Prusa MK3 and I'm happy with it. I'm even interested in the Sovol 5 duel head system so I can get back into at least two colour prints.
This thing looks pretty good for the money. I think you did a nice job of being honest about it whilst it being a sponsored video. Also those product shots with the music in the beginning are really nicely done.
Hey Thenextlayer guy! I just wanted to say I thought your video was helpful and informative. I ordered an SV07 through your link yesterday. I’m looking forward to jumping into this hobby. It’s my very first printer.
I think for a bunch of folks it's also about the potential bump in quality moving to corexy where it's only the print head moving and not the whole print itself, or being able to go higher speeds and cut down print time at the same level of quality of the finished part.
Months after this video came out here I am buying this on a discount sale and it's been amazing so far!!! Even my wet filament has been working through it. It did absolutely have black filament in it but it came out before I put anything in it but it came out clean lolll
Another great review. I have just bought the SV07 Plus due to the opening offer. It cost me the same in £'s as my Ender 3 V2 did over 3 yrs ago! Followed all the instructions to the letter...benchy printed. I like what I see so far. The part cooling fan is like a hair dryer tho!! Now for another learning curve with Klipper.
I started on a 10s and cut my teeth on learning how to replace things when they broke or needed adjustment. I guess I’d like to think it made me better at printing but with a lot of headaches. Which I think is sometimes the best way to learn. Now on an x1c and refining my prints even better. Bed slingers are like your first car: they’re nothing great and if you crash it you crash it but it gets you moving.
My sv06 plus shipped with filament previously being ran through the nozzle. No complaints on quality control on my end, if i have to make a recommendation though, do NOT use included SD card, it is low quality, corrupts often, and some how adds “noise” to prints once theyve been made.
I’m expecting my very first 3D printer, I chose the ELEGOO Neptune 3 Max because I wanted to start with big build volume…I should be getting it Tuesday August 22. I’m already looking for the midsize printer and you do a great job when you talk about this SV07. I think it will be one of the printers to consider when I get my secondary one…and you’re a big part of my choice. Thank you for your input and advice.
I'm looking for a 3d printer to replace an ancient DaVinci Jr 1.0 that my brother passed on to me a few years ago. I've seen the Sovol SV07 recommended a couple of times, and I'm glad I found your review of it. The SV07 is definitely the top contender so far for my ~$300 price range. Having struggled with the closed source XYZ Print software, I really like the unlocked/open source nature of the SV07.
I’ve got an SV06 and it’s been mostly solid, I’ve printed a lot of huge projects with it and it continues to impress me. However, it’s come time for some serious work and rather than spend the time making it print well again, I’d rather get something that “just works”. The price of the SV07 is killer, but is it another tinkering machine? I think I’m done tinkering lol, not enough time anymore. Bambu printers I like are about double the price so that’s why I’m asking.
I have an ender 3 pro that I have heavily modified to get to print well hardware and software wise. I got mainsail and klipper running on it and found it to be fun. I have an order for the sv07 and I am excited to see what it is like!
The number of times you mentioned the sponsorship made me wonder if you were trying to hint at something. Not that I really think that, just occurred to me. Video was effective though, it made me want one, having a couple older printers.
You asked if anyone else had a different color filament come out at the start of the first print. I did. i was testing with the white filament that came with the printer and it started coming out black. then I noticed int the manual that they test each unit prior to shipping. So, unless someone's first print is the same color they tested withat the factory, everyone will see this.
Good morning. This machine is an inductive sensor. If you place a glass base to print on top, the machine will not adjust the glass. Is there any way to use a glass bed on this printer?
Yonatan (I assume that's how you spell your name in Israel), I'm really trying to get into 3d printng and I bought a Flashforge Creator Pro a while back but their slicer is so bad and the setup and user friendliness of the printer is pretty bad too. I'm looking into getting something a little more user friendly that I won't need to set aside an entire day to tinker before getting a basic print to work. I also live in Israel and I find it pretty hard to find someone who ships to Israel. Bambu and Sovol both don't seem to ship here. 1. What printer would you recommend that would mostly "just work"? Or at least would be easy to use. 2. How do you get the printers shipped to Israel?
SO - as a person who wants to get a 3D printer, who isn't too bad at putting things together, but isn't especially brilliant with electronics, mechanics etc, what would be a good 3D printer for me to start with? Some have suggested an Ender, (to learn the hard way?) others a Prusa or Prusa clone like the Sovol (to get used to something that works but can be made better?) or a Bambu Labs) for something that works from day 1 but may not be able to be fixed easily?) Anyone? 🤔
I will be reviewing the one I paid for as soon as it comes in. There have been issues within the Sovol community like crunchy bearings on the sv06 which have been experienced by many and reported by none of the influencers.
hello, I can't really get a nice first layer with my new sovol sv07, I want to run the orca slicer but it didn't work, u want to share the config u using for this??
Being a newbie, I was wondering; Considering in which the speed of the X & Y can travel (due to Klipper) - Do you think by replacing the roller wheels on the X & Y axis with linear railings would make a noticeable difference in performance / durability? Thanks
80% seems like a reach, considering the lidar and variety of materials the Carbon can do, but a Sovol 4 was my first printer, so I'm not surprised it's good.
80% of the performance maybe but not of the features, I agree. But yeah maybe a stretch in the case of the X1C, more of the P1P. Thanks for the comment
I think you did a great job even though Sovol sponsored the video. I am planning to buy a new printer at the moment and I really don´t know what to buy. Creality K1, Sovol SV07 or a P1P. The more videos like this I see the more confused I get and the more I am leaning towards the SV07.
Repairability is for sure much easier with a bed slinger. My first printer was the SV06 and it startet to print uneven in height. I just fastened all screws, and they are all easy to access - problem fixed. I love my SV06, but with Klipper built in (and Wifi, and the LEDs, and the speed) I ordered a SV07, because it will cost quite the same to bring the SV06 on feature-parity with 07, plus a lot of hours to recherche parts and building…
I would let your budget dictate, to be honest. If you can afford a Bambu printer, that's a best-in-class situation. If you cannot, or if you're not sure you will love the hobby, start small, with the SV07. I haven't tested the K1 yet, but it'll be here hopefully this week... so look forward to that.
@@thenextlayer Yes I can affort a bambu and I already have a printer (Flashforge Creator Pro) but Looping for something more up to date. Thanks for your advice I go with the P1P then.
I really hope they apply what they learned here to their SV06 line in the future, maybe in a new SV06-like printer with Klipper capabilities and better hotend. Yeah this machine looks fine, but it's essentially an Ender-like, unlike the SV06 which was a Prusa-like. Rubber V rollers vs much more stable and longer lasting rod system. It's just iinherently inferior. Can't spin it any other way, it's objectively worse.
I ordered it within minutes of preorder release and got it for $299. This will be my first 3D printer & didn’t want to spend $699 to $1,400 for the Bambu printer. I’m testing the 3D printing waters. I’m not looking for a slow printer and need something easy to use out of the box. I gave Sovol a chance based upon your experience and recommendations for the S06 and S06+. I can buy Creality printers off the shelf at Micro Center, but I feel they are not easy to use and are unreliable. Prussia is great but to overpriced for what you receive. The 3D printing industry has finally changed from tinkering to offering Fast and Reliable printing for the rest of us. I like to tinkering as much as next person. But I’m done now that life has gone back to normal.
Good luck on your purchase. May you not end up in a blown stepper motor and a extruder with stripped planetary gear like me after only 100 hours of printing! Oh yeah, and my print bed puts even the Grand Canyon to shame, and the bearings more dry than the sand on the moon. You know, Sovol QC!
I totally agree with you. 5 years ago I also invested twice in cheap printers. But now there are better printers on the market and we should no longer settle for inferior products. "Beginner" here is just a synonym for cheaper models. Those who have problems with leveling or other technical challenges will have more problems with these cheaper models. Compared to Prusa models, where such problems are rare. Therefore, it is not right to say, "Here you have a beginner printer". Unless you have enough experience and knowledge to handle such models.
@@HarryPorpise I had expressed myself incorrectly. I think it's okay that there are inexpensive printers and I have nothing against them. But I think it's risky to promote them as entry-level devices. You do need experience and patience for these printers. Even in livestreams, I see people taking a long time to get the paper aligned properly, even though they've been printing for a long time. 😅
Depends. Some people have more important expenses (barely getting by on rent, students, saving for a baby coming soon), and should really not put a hobby above those things. Others aren't sure if they'll like the hobby, so why risk the money (my first printer was purchased on AliExpress for like $200 for this reason)... I think it's good to have options. Adam Smith approves :) Thanks for the comment
No, I'm sorry this isn't a game-changer... It is objectively a regression... They have gone from Prusa-style to Ender-style with these god-awful wheels which wear quick and make prints rougher just as fast... Klipper can't compensate for poor hardware. Your blatant "sponsored by _" to shill a product that will make you money based on orders/ traffic from your videos will be the reason you won't make a dent in this sphere. Either ride the wave and die-hard as you are doing or learn to become objective, bias-free and somewhat unique to the content creators doing this who came before you to actually have some longevity. Until then, don't expect anyone to take you seriously.
Yep. I’m not sure how a clone company who has 0 innovations under their name can achieve a “game changer” product. I’m still salty over the shitty SV06+ I received. Bed warped beyond what the ABL can help with. Even with the silicon bed level mod I still cannot get good prints. But that doesn’t matter anymore. Now the planetary gear inside the extruder gave up, and became stripped/warped for whatever reason. I ordered some new one from AliExpress.. After a couple of days one of the stepper motors said bye bye. All this while I had to endure the sound of scratchy bearings, and the never ending loud PSU fan. Thanks to all the disingenuous reviewers who fooled the naive past me to follow the hype train of the “Prusa killer” Over my dead body if I ever put money into a Chinese printer cloning company again.
Thanks for the feedback. I get a *lot* of printers for free. Some of them I don't like, and I tell my audience. Some of them I LOVE (Bambu X1C), and I tell my audience. I try to be honest and objective... but I do appreciate your feedback anyways. What types of videos would YOU like to see?
Humm ok so because they source parts from the same suppliers and are both based in Shenzhen they are the same company? I guess according to your logic Anycubic is the other point of the devils triangle. They too use some same parts as both Creality and Sovol and are also based in Shenzhen. So wow 😮🫣 And like I said, I could be wrong, but still think you are wrong. 😁
@@stanbrown853 Believe as you wish dude, I am in a position to know, Both groups are partnered with a group im part of called 3DPRescue. Both have come out and admitted that they are the same company. We Found this out because, one, we asked, and two, If you open most sovol machines, they have creality branded 4.2.7 or 4.2.2 boards... All three of my sovol machines have creality branded 4.2.7 boards with sovol branded firmware from the factory..
Anyone care to elaborate on why this is a game changer? It’s literally another bed slinger with 0 innovation from a clone company. Having previously owned a Sovol printer I can already tell you folks to beware of the low quality. I was once naive too. I believed in the Sovol hype because I listened to disingenuous reviewers. Don’t be like me. Save up instead and buy a quality printer. These Chinese clone companies have 0 customer support because they’re too busy publishing a new printer model every third month. Expect 3-5 days cadence on your support tickets if they don’t outright ghost you!
It’s a game changer because it’s a good klipper machine for under $400. And Sovol used to have issues but they are solid machines now. This SV07 is among my most reliable machines now
Don’t mix bed slingers and the quality of these Chinese cloning manufactures into the same category. Prusa is an example on how good a bed slinger can be if you spend good money on the components, QC and support.
I'll happily share the profile with anyone if you message me on Discord :) I just make it convenient for my Patreons, because what else can I offer them for their support
Listening about this being a sponsor video was kinda painful. I just saying at begging and end would be fine, but through out the video just some simple text annotation would be enough. 85% things that I remembered from this video is that it's sponsored xd It really destroyed the flow
OK, wow, thank you for this. You're the second person to say it. I wanted to err on the side of caution so I'm not accused of doing "paid reviews," but I'm gonna edit my next video like this and fix it to only be at the beginning and the end.
I think you did a great job navigating the issue of sponsorship and you came across as completely honest to me. I especially like the on screen clarifications added after shooting (probably during the editing phase). This looks like a great first printer and as you mentioned they will be tweeking the sofrware more than the hardware, the opposite of my first printer experience in 2017 with the original CR-10. Which still prints great (and very slowly) to this day!
You know what? This video made me realize that I don't want to watch sponsored content and professional youtubers anymore. "They paid me, but I'm honest", "I solved some problem, but I will share with patrons". Dude, all your work is a trial version of the internet I remember.
I got one of these on the launch day preorder (at the lowest price too! - and it'll be my first printer!!) - thanks for doing this, so I have more info on what to expect when it finally shows up!
My sv06 plus (brand new never opened) had black filament left in the extruder from the factory. They test their extruders. Also I emailed them to cancel my sv07 because I decided on a sv06 plus instead (before the 7 arrived) and they cancelled it no questions asked. They also wanted me to give them some ideas on their next printer and asked what I liked in the sv06 over the 7. I responded and again, 48 hours later, they responded back again. They were awesome. They are on comment section on RU-vid and other social media addressing issues and have made changes to already made machines before sending them out to customers. Because of this I will be sticking with them for the long haul
Some questions: 1) What type heatbreak is used? CR10? Chemera? Proprietary? Is it bi-metal from the box? 2) What type of nozzle is used? Volcano? Proprietary? if proprietary - is it abrasive-resistant? Are there hardened and/or size options available? 3) What type of fans are cooling the model? 2x5015? Does the back fan only blows on the center of the print? 4) What's going on with the Z axis? Are the lead screws top-constrained? What problem do the nuts with springs solve? 5) Can someone please explain to me what do the wheels not do on Ender clones where the mass of the bed assembly bottlenecks the speed/accel before motion system?
There is like 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance that I will even going to think about buying a bed slinger ever again! And no way, I am going to buy a Voron and mess around with all those things. So what will I then buy? Well, it will properly be the Bambu Lab P1S.... The new version with casing ect. I just want to PRINT! and not waisting my time with building from scratch again. Ender 3 Pro was a pure nightmare for me, and the Voron journey was to darn expensive! I would never trust anything you say, without reading or watching anyone else about the same product. I am to old, and have learned the hard way of what to do and not to do, when I buy new things. BUT! You do it really really good and in a really trustworthy way, People should learn to research on anything they don't know about BEFORE buying. That do will save them for many thrown-away of money. Just my point of view. Greeetings to ANYONE HERE! Hope your all good and safe.
Correct on this comment. Depends, though. SV06+ Raspberry Pi or Sonic Pad might cost you more money and be less integrated / not have a touch screen... but you'll have a more rigid frame. I don't know if it matters (the V-Rollers), though... and THIS would be my recommendation for people who don't wanna deal with flashing firmware! But yeah, my SV06 with Klipper was a beast till I passed it along to a Patreon supporter :)
Spot on; I would adjust the tone to only mention the sponsor once in the beginning and again in the wrap-up. The number of times it is mentioned dilutes your message and opinion. Otherwise, I have grown to trust and respect your opinions on many subjects in the 3d space.
Wow, thank you for this. I honestly cannot tell you how much I appreciate it. I have another video coming soon, which AnyCubic sponsored, and I haven't recorded it yet b/c I've been waiting to see the responses of my community to this video. I want to do right by you guys, and I don't want people to think I'm offering "paid reviews," but at the same time, if a sponsor pays me to do a video, and I love the product, I want to share that without being called a shill. It's awesome to me that you've grown to trust and respect my opinions enough that you believe me when I say "I've been paid to do this video, but I still want to share the good and the bad, even if I have a conflict of interest," and also, you know that I wouldn't accept money to talk about a product (even SquareSpace or those types of sponsors) unless I knew the product was awesome. In short, thanks for the awesome reply :)
Thank you for the sponsored video. done well. would like to know more SV06+ vs. SV07+. Specifically is the SV06 more beginner friendly / less buggy. The large print is a huge factor in my upgrade. Auto levelling was due for me after years with Ender3V2. Auto filament is an upgrade I needed. I am concerned if the filment could break between the huge distance from the sensor to the dual drivers. Since this will be my first SOVOL, how is the support - both in community and through the company. One AMZ review stated their device "caught fire" after 2 mo. Is this a real concern? Lastly, one option that Ive been holding out for in a budget printer is multi filament prints. Is this an option for under $1200. Thanks.
If you want multi filament, you will need to go with the Bambu lab A1 combo. I’ve had many Sovol machines and they are great. Personally, I would probably recommend the SVO 7+ because of the clipper, but I think they now sell SVO 6+ with a clipper screen and that has a more rigid frame which might be better for you.
I really hope that Sovol's next printer will again be IDEX. I love my SV04 and would love how they could make it faster and maybe some other improvements of things they have learned with SV06 and SV07.
@@thenextlayer I'm on it to install Klipper on it. But even with clipper the hardware (top acceleration, ...) is the limiting factor as I heared from others.
Thanks for your great videos! I'm new to the 3d printing world and I'm having a blast with this stuff. I just ordered the sv07 on your recommendation here!! I have a Bambu labs x1carbn and this will be my second printer - as I needed something with a little bigger print bed. I don't expect this to compete with my bambu labs - as far as speed but after watching this - I was convinced this would be a great 2nd printer for me! Keep up the great work you do on these videos. I've subbed and liked! :D -Cholly
Nice review. Honestly, SV07 is a mix of forward and backward steps lol. If they retained everything from SV06 and added the SV07 hotend kit, made it klipper, it would've been perfect.
@@thenextlayer Exactly! 🙂 I am now looking for a way to buying it when I manage to save enough. Our country is dominated by Creality, Bambulab is just making its way. The A1 hasn't even been release here. Knowing the behavior of resellers here in the Philippines, they just want to sell out all the A1 minis 1st lol. You've been fair 🙂 , just a little bit nicer compared to others. Thank you for your efforts in educating us and making videos.
Great review even if you are a paid shill. 😂 I have a few printers that have a special place in my heart. Of course the first Ender, the first large plate Kobra Max, the most easy color BL X1C, my first Prusa MK3s+. Amd most recently the Sovol SV06. I purchased it to compare to the Mk3s it is modeled after and was truely WOWED! I have since recommended it to many people wanting to start 3d printing amd few looking to upgrade from what they were currently using to squirt plastic. Based on the performance of the SV06 I was preparing to order a 06+ when I heard of the impending 07 coming. So i held off and instead locked in a 07 preorder day if offering, and am excitedly awaiting its arrival. Thanks again for the great work you do for our community of Squirters. Lil Stan Plastic Squirters Union Local 1.75
the SV07 is easily the worst printer I have every owned, it cannot keep any kind of calibration for even a single print, you cant print anything larger than about 1-2cm or it will de-laminate immediately (all adhesion tricks included), I have rebuilt this thing and calibrated it so many times its not funny and only managed to get a 3 prints complete and they were small, everything is checked and I am using Sovols own profile (slowing it down doesn't help either). I would go back to my old Creality s10+ before using this again, its literally going in the bin because its not worth the price of postage back to the US. this is one of those lessons on getting what you pay for not watching un-invested reviews on products.
got the Sovol SV07 plus a few months ago. just love it. it just workes. i can press print and leave it. had an Ender 3 V2 that i sold for 50$ because it was garbage compared to the sovol. the ender 3 worked 25%-50% of the time. Sovol havent failed
My SV07 had some filament in the extruder, I think it's probably just standard QC. I've only had a few hardware problems, one of which was that the filament sensor is really unhappy with any curve in the filament when you load it- have to straighten it before inserting into the sensor, which isn't a big deal, just another thing to remember when loading. The other issue, which is more of a problem, has been that the adjustment eccentric for the roller on the bottom of the print head does not get tight enough. No matter where in the rotation I turn it to, it still has a little too much slop in it. Other than that, the print head is massive compared to my Ender 3 S1 Pro's sprite head- it does a fantastic job of cooling, and it's nice to have the lights on the head instead of on a light bar, but it's definitely showing a difference in how much correction is required in the input shaping vs the S1 with a sonic pad. The print quality is virtually identical, and it's almost half the price (I got the early preorder deal) of the S1 Pro and the add-on sonic pad, but I do assume I will have to be extra vigilant about keeping things tight as that's a lot of print head to slam around over time. Software-wise, the screen responsiveness you mention is only a problem for me when it doesn't respond quickly to an emergency stop command (also, turn off that confirm requirement, kids! Whoops!😂) I definitely agree with your overall assessments, it is a great printer and at the price point, it can't be beat. I have an X1 Carbon, the S1 Pro, two CR-10 Smarts, a RatRig V-Minion, an AnyCubic 4Max, and two Raise3D Pro3 units that are all in regular use between home and work, and I suspect I will be finding new homes for the 4Max and the RatRig to either add another SV07 or a P1P shortly. Since I added the Sonic pad to my S1 pro, I haven't used the V-Minion at all due to the small bed size.
Is there some way to choose a simpler gui instead of the standard one. I don't like too many "switches and buttons". I feel like i am entering an airplane cockpit instead of a car...😮 Klipper is the right direction, but not for everyone imho.
