I've been lusting after the Harsey dagger as well as the V14 Les George dagger. No idea which I'll end up purchasing first, but I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with both at some point. And a Difensa. Harsey's eye and designs are amazing.
How does the jimping on the hilt, right beside the guard of the blade feel when gripped firmly? Is it too aggressive or is it very comfortable? It’s hard to tell from only viewing and not feeling. I would appreciate a timely answer because I plan to buy the blade soon. Thanks.
She's a beaut! In the past, my only reservation about this style was the round or almost round handle and indexing of the edge. However this is an amazing piece!!! 👍🗡️👍
Why would you need to "index" a dagger like this? the edges are not very sharp as they need to be durable for its one and only purpose of piercing attacks.
@@Alex-yg5uh There's more to the story for those who train with them. Simply put, a flat handle tells you where the edge is for cuts, without looking at the blade. A side benefit of that is that thrusts between ribs work better in a horizontal plane, just like native American hunting broadheads.
I love this dagger! My favorite is the v14 as far as design, but this is a close second and honestly looks like it has better practicality because of its edges and slashing ability which you dont get as much in the v14. Would LOVE to find one used at a good pricelike you did, i never see to much as far as daggers go on blade forum because most of them are usually hubting fixvlade knives and not as much tactical fix blads or fighting daggers. Sort of wish knives like these had its own category to make finding one a bit easier. You got a great find there pal enjoy!
I think the v14 is superior to the harsey. Neither one are designed or should be used to slash. Probably the reason that daggers aren't as available or traded is because they only have one purpose and obviously compared to a knife they are superior in that purpose.
Can definitely see the inspiration, A fancy 1st pattern Fairbairn Sykes is very much on my grail knife list, have a 2nd Pattern on the way to satisfy the urge for now, unfortunately the 1st pattern is no longer made in my home town, and the 3rd patterns they produce have poor reviews.
Joseph Rogers of Sheffield England, they are a former supplier to the British armed forces (they may still be but I'm not sure) and make a good first pattern.
How will you rate the sharpness of this dagger? I mean aside from the point, the edges on a lot of daggers (even expensive ones) are just for show and cannot cut.
This is pretty sharp if a little oblique. The hollow grind helps, but the blade is not that broad, so in order to maintain thrusting rigidity it's still a little thicker behind the edge than a slicer.
@@TheKnifeJunkie Thanks for the info. Will be saving up for one. Btw, speaking of the CS Tai Pan, definitely get one, I like them so much I have two. Just got the latest version in satin 3V. Happy collecting.
hi bob mr flamion here, have you seen the newer spartan-harsey dagger?i do not care for the hilt on the newer ones .also look up the acta non verba dagger and also i like the hinderer-ek daggers in .01 and 3v.these knives plus randall m2s in 7 and 8 inch are awsome to own
You got good taste in knives bro. With the Gerber... I recommend going out and buying some rust stop paint for like, mailboxes and shit. Won't be permanent like a powder coat but will be Very good if you let it dry for a week or so. It stops the rust and you can paint it right onto the rust. Don't need to do anything else. Just paint the whole thing and then drag the blade over cardboard to remove the paint while it's wet to leave only the edge exposed. Trust me it works well if you let it dry for at least a week.
hey my friend , i would love to buy this particular dagger. i've been looking at a few. the anv m500 double edges are as dull as a spoon. are the spartan harsey edges sharp please ? kind regards.
Regarding the FS dagger. The UK 🇬🇧 was on the bones of our arse. Anything to shave off a bit of money ! All it needed to do was fit in between a Germans ribs. Didn’t need to be pretty or cool, just effective. Its not without its faults but it is now iconic.
Hey brother, I recently bought the Harsey dagger with the non black blade. It has almost the same blade profile as my Dirac Delta which makes them present nicely when side by side. Thanks for producing the knife porn for me!!!
It’s so funny how all the basic and simple knife designs have the prices jacked up on them so high, but the market is being flooded by obtuse and funky shaped cheaper knives. It’s almost as if good design is scamming customers, because the knife shapes can easily be made by cheaper materials, yet we are all forced to buy the name brand if we want that shape, so it’s always interesting to see the market scam of knife design in all the online website knife outlets.
I think they come and go in and out of stock. But I would go right to Spartan Blades website. If there is nothing, call them. I have heard some folks have had good results doing that with them.
Bob, that's an amazing purchase ! I need it and want it, the FDE version is definitely on my next knife purchase list with the Boker Applegate 4.5, also designed by the man.
I think they do runs of these, but not continuous production. Though I have heard that if you call Spartan, they may be able to accommodate you on certain "unavailable" models.
The tree logo is on the v-14 too so your theory is wrong,. I had this blade but ended up selling it and getting a V-14 which imo is a superior dagger in almost every way.
@@adamkoltun4436 As you mention its longer, has a better balance, the handle is superior for different dagger grips and it just feels better in the hand overall. Not saying this is a bad dagger just that the V-14 is better imo.
Opposite for me, I had a Les George made V14 and returned it and got the Harsey, mostly due to a severely wonky grind on the V14, the central ridge was way off centre
To me "Fantastic design, yet poor execution" is synonymous the Gerber Brand. I learned to detest 420 & 440 steels because of Gerber. Whatever their proprietary, mystery steel is, well, I don't like that either.
