Written by Pops Staples and performed by the Staples Singers in 1965. The song was written for the Selma to Montgomery march for voting rights.

My vinyl arrived yesterday, minutes after I left for Heathrow, it'll be over a week before I get to play it. I really wish they'd done "We're going to change your world", my favourite protest tune. It would suit Terry I think.

@@VespaT5 Sad that they never stuck to their Ska/Reggae roots for their new album. It seems crazy that The Specials have attempted to re-invent themselves now as a bluesy soul type of band on this release. A lot of fans of The Specials are into Ska or Ska related music such as Rocksteady & Reggae. Many fans will feel very disappointed with The Specials changing their genre of music.

Seriously?? I support all 6 living members of The Specials past and present. 1979 till now. Dammers obviously. Whatever Nev and Rod are doing. Encore wasn't a great album it was a good album and did have some great stand out tracks. But this. Tel Lyn and Horace. Good god. What a pile of hot steaming number twos.

What an absolutely disgraceful hypocrite you are Mr Hall. You built, and owe your entire career to the 2 tone movement which prided itself on inclusivity, yet you have stopped so low as to be complicit with discrimination at your Halifax Piece Hall gig, and others. I requested a refund when the promoter futuresound announced that you would be requiring attendees to have 2 doses of experimental drugs as a condition of entry. You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself. Promoting medical apartheid is low for anyone to stoop, but considering your roots, it's a major kick in the teeth for 'freedom' and the 2 tone movement...Shame on you.

this band earns its living by touring. and it does not make the rules. it has nothing to with the rules it must follow; and you must follow. you must never assume an artists material is autobiographical; or that it does anything more than follow the rules. the promoters etc make the rules. otherwise it would just break up and be gone. bit heavy but you have lost it

@@GeldorfMcleod I've been to four gigs that have had no ridiculous 'rules' in place since these pretend rebels, who don't have the spine to do what is morally right became complicit with discrimination. There is no excuse, so clearly the band do not care about enabling division and discrimination.

Its the same thing out here in the states, many events and concerts require you to be vaxxed. All these alleged punk and ska bands had an opportunity to stand up for individuals rights and they choose to be cowards. As someone who earns a living doing live drawings in the states, Ive had no problem walking away from events that required me to vaxxed. A couple of months ago one of the clients that hired me, casually dropped it the day before of the event. Stating that I needed to be vaxxed and not even negative covid result would be enough, and although I left a lot of money on the table because this was a big client I feel no regrets because I moved on and have done well thanks to God. Stay strong there are a lot of people against all this BS including some artist but I've had to look hard for them but they do exist.

I gave this album a good chance. It's unusual that a ska band makes their cover tunes less interesting than the originals. I think it's safe to say that this iteration of the specials has abandoned ska in their recent efforts with Encore and now, Protest Songs. There's an important ingredient missing in this offering. It has the feel of an indie or basement project, with production values crying out for a sprinkle of Jerry Dammers, who penned the movements most enduring protest songs, Free Nelson Mandela and Ghost Town.

I do not like the idea of bands trying to re-invent themselves & it feels like The Specials have done this. I will not bother buying this new album by them. Many fans of The Specials & Ska music in general will be disappointed with the way The Specials has changed.

"The opposition", i.e. those who always pride themselves on 'being on the side of the workers' have shown everyone they are just as keen to limit people's right to free assembly, just as keen to keep people locked down.
