The Spicy and Surprising History of Doritos 

I could probably destroy a bag of cheeseburger Doritos. But I have no culinary standards, so there’s that to keep in mind.

I remember traveling in Iceland a few years back and was surprised to find Cool Ranch Doritos labeled Cool American.

I absolutely look forward to these videos every Sunday! I'd have to say my favorite is cool ranch. My kids absolutely love the nacho cheese flavor though so that's what we usually have on hand. When I was a kid it was always a treat when my mom would buy Doritos for us because she didn't buy a lot of name brand foods like that.

The jumping jack pepper jack is the best one they ever made. They bring it back every few years and I grab as many bags as I can, they're delicious.

Please do a video about how deep-frying snacks like deep-fried oreos and deep-fried Mars bars become a thing!

Doritos with their Nacho Cheese flavor is my absolute favorite. I try other chips but I always end up coming back to Doritos.

My favorite flavor was the Taco Bell Taco Supreme Doritos from the early 90's. They were amazing and need to come back, ASAP!

Blazin' Buffalo Ranch, a flavor they bring back every couple of years, is my favorite. But nothing will beat the Ranch Dipped Hot Wings flavor of Doritos Jacked. Those extra thick chips were perfect for dipping.

Tapatio Doritos is hands down the best!

I remember BBQ ribs flavored Doritos available when I was stationed in Japan.

I remember the original toasted corn from the mid 60's, about the time I entered first grade. They were actually pretty good. My brother liked the taco flavor best. Once they came out, I preferred Nacho Cheese flavor, ideal for making actual cheese nachos. Ahhh, glorious cheese....

Sour Cream and Onion, and the cheeseburger Doritos was incredible. Argue with your ceiling fan.

This video briefly touched on Shrinkflation.. and the way they do it makes it seem kind of light to me. Shrinkflation can be rather serious actually for 1 huge reason. Most companies never return that product to its original size/cost afterwards. They keep it at the shrunken size for the same cost. The patterns kind of dangerous tbh because it leads consumers 1) spending more for less over time and 2) if the company keeps doing this over time people will be spending 3 bucks for a 4oz bag of chips for example instead of 3 for that 7.5oz of chips

I bounce back and forth between Cool Ranch and Nacho Cheese when I buy Doritos. I like them equally.

Dang, usually depends on my mood. Jalapeno Cheddar and Sweet Chili Heat can be destroyed in an afternoon, but sometimes I'll go for zesty cheese or cool ranch. BBQ, nacho, and spicy are meh.

Man, that's something. I have seen the original brand in a store, but never tried it. I like the current brand with different flavors. Flaming hots, Nacho, etc. Amazing as always from Weird History Food.

Will always LOVE Taco flavored Doritos,,,from the 70"s. When they came out with the Nacho flavored ones in '74, they took the Taco ones away (for some strange reason--like they just COULDN'T have both flavors going at once???). I know they've brought back the Taco ones, but BELIEVE ME, they are NOT the same. Heck, even the Nacho ones are NOT the same,,,😑.

Does anyone else remember the "Doritos Duo's" ??? They two flavors in the same bag, like: Pizza and cool ranch, cheddar and jalapeno. 2I can't remember any of the other flavors. The pizza was my favorite. And there was those 3D Doritos for a while very tasty too.

I miss the Doritos Collide: Hot wings and Blue Cheese. Which I prefer ranch with my hot wings, but damn these chips were amazing. Doritos needs to bring these back!!!

I vaguely remember the corn and taco season Doritos when I was little and liked them. However, until Ranch, I was hooked on the nacho cheese. I still also like their old branding style far more than their 'new' style. I was into the pepper jack flavor for a short time but it wore out quickly for me. Of all of their flavors (and including the times they try to do actually hot flavors) nacho and Ranch are the core Doritos in my mind. Everything else can come and go.

I really like the sweet Thai chili ones. Thankfully, in my area they're available year round.

I miss the "Salsa" flavor from the 1980s. They looked like the regular Nacho Cheese ones but they had a better flavor, more spice but not hot. I have not tasted anything that they have made since then that could compare. Maybe one day they'll bring it back!

My all-time favorites of the Doritos lineup were the Late Night flavors. All of them are great. Wish they were easier to find these days, but I guess I can always order them online or something if I really have that craving.

Loved the Roulette but the Jalapeño Cheese in Canada just can’t be beat in my opinion. I do love finding out that Nacho Cheese was introduced the year I was born. Explains why Doritos feel like a part of me.

Here in Mexico we've always called them them 'totopos' and we eat them with salsa, guacamole, cream, frijoles refritos, etc. That being said, my favorite Doritos are the nacho cheese.

The BEST Doritos flavor was "Salsa" - they seem to have been discontinued in the U.S. about a decade ago BUT, you can still get them as part of the Flamin' Hot Munchies mix. :)

My favorite flavor was "Toro Habanero" (the flavor was nacho cheese + habanero pepper) it was introduced in my country around 2007, I was a kid around that time and remember having teary eyes and snots by the 3rd dorito off the bag. It was discontinued that same year due to lack of popularity and if I'm not mistaken they made a comeback in 2014-2015 where I was able to enjoy the flavor even more, they were just as good as back then, but again due to the lack of popularity they were removed again and haven't been seen again ever since, I miss that flavor. Nowadays I just pour habanero sauce over the nacho cheese ones, it kinda gets close but it will never be the same.

I love the Poppin' Jalapeno Doritos the most. That said, I do miss the Blazing Habanero.

There was outrage in NZ when Doritos entered the market and replaced the longtime national brand CC’s. I’m not too fond of their flavours and go for the corn chips made by smaller manufacturers, but Tostitos have begun a rapid expansion now.

Salsa Rio was the best flavor ever. That coupled with a can of California Cooler soda was joy.

I forgot about the monterey jack cheese ones! Those were good! And the Thai Sweet Chili ones too! Cool Ranch is a classic that never dies.

Back in the 1960s, we served "Fork Tacos" at parties so you could eat tacos standing or sitting down. You filled your plate with Doritos and spooned on toppings and sauce.

How old I am: My first bag of Doritos was basically plain, unflavored toasty tortilla chips.

In Australia Doritos are called corn chips and are found in the snack aisle. Tortilla chips are thicker and better for nachos and found in the Mexican food section.

I remember when I was about 10 I had a bag of those midnight Doritos in the cheeseburger flavor and those are by far the best flavor I ever had. I had ‘em once and then never saw ‘em again and whenever I bring ‘em up to other people they look at me like I’m crazy 😅😭

When you mentioned that doritos briefly had a sour cream and onion flavor my instant reaction was NOPE! which i find funny as thats one of my favorite flavors of potato chips. I just dont think it would work with the tortilla chip flavor. Clearly i am not the only one.

Spicier Doritos are my favorite. It used to be Cool Ranch in high school but I over did it and can’t even look at it now.

The purple bag is the one I always grab. I love it over the original red bag.

Don’t see anyone else mentioning it, so I will. I remember as a kid the Casa de Frito at Disneyland. It was at Frontierland near the loading place for Tom Sawer’s island and the Columbia paddle wheeler.

My favourite Doritos flavors are Ketchup, Nacho Cheese, Barbecue, jalapeño cheddar, and Late Night Tacos at Midnight.

2:28 I always though that the name Doritos came from the verb _"dorar"_ that basically means to cook something until it gets a gold brownish colour, like meats or some vegetables like onions and peppers, or in this case tortillas, and the diminutive _"-ito"_ so you got the word _"doradito"_ that sounds like Dorito, but I guess reality is often disappointing.

I love that they will reduce the amount of chips in the bag yet will increase the price stating inflation as well. My favourite Dorito is Jalapeño Cheddar.

please do a segment of the history of Sun Chips. I personally know the gentleman who worked at Frito-Lay research and development in Dallas and is responsible for its original formula.

Books BBQ is the best. The sour cream and onion was called sonic sour cream and I enjoyed them. The roulette chips were awesome and Doritos goes in everything like old Dutch's mexican chili chips.

The guacamole ones were definitely my favorite. Though for ones around today probably has to be Cool Ranch.
