Funnily enough, one of the episodes of What If WAS supposed to feature a story similar to this. The spider-bite that turned Peter into Spider-Man turned him into a spider creature instead. Also, there's a segment from Edge of the Spider-Verse that also has a very similar premise to this. I wouldn't be surprised if this fan film is inspired by that.

The one he's talking about is an issue of Edge of Spiderverse where Patton Parnel gets bit and basically turns into what is seen in this short film. Except his version of Uncle Ben, Uncle Ted was abusive so kinda deserved to be murdered. and then another victim of his I believe was his version of Mary Jane, Sara Jane. Then Morlun killed this character before the events of the spiderverse comics with the whole spider totem story line.

No, that was Tobe Hooper and the Golan-Globus film group. Leslie Stevens, creator of The Outer Limits, wrote that script. It pissed off Stan Lee and the movie never got made. Several other Spider-Man scripts were made between that one and the James Cameron script which were much closer to Spider-Man's comic mythos. The Cameron script is pretty similar to the Sam Raimi film.

Actually, it was Tobe Hooper (director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre) who had that idea. James Cameron's idea was a just a darker Rated R Spiderman movie.
