Surely as we approach 2022 people have learned to read file extensions for a spiderman homecoming torrent and not run random .exe files they found on the Russian side of the internet. Apparently not.
Full blog about the virus with code snippits here.

There's something interesting that my high school IT lab teacher said to me a few years ago (I graduated 10 years ago now) that applies here I think, as he was seeing a massive regression in computer literacy in highschoolers: after our millennial digital native generation and with the advent of the smartphone, people have become way worse at basic computing skills not unlike the generation that came right after the microcomputer boom in the early 80s, so you have a bunch of teenagers with grandma-level skills that have only used tablets and smartphones and are coming to computers way too late.

I know it's been said before, but this is why Windows obfuscating file types by default is a terrible idea.. You'd literally see the download as (filename).torrent without extra legwork. Whenever I'm setting up a Windows PC for someone I ALWAYS disable that option, but I see no advantage to having it on, period.. Whether enabled by the user or the system, it's just begging to cause problems.

Wrong, whenever you download something it will always show the file extension in Chrome, FF and Edge. Not only that but also you can tell by the icon. Windows always has been extremely primitive when it comes to file type recognition. Back in around 1987, even the Commodore Amiga understood the concept of file types based purely on reading the contents of the file headers, it did not matter what file extension you used on a file. You could even create your own file type definitions within Amiga Workbench. Even some Linux desktops appear to suffer from the same "laziness" and require the correct file extension before they open in the correct application by clicking on the file icon.
@TheFlynCow
@TheFlynCow 2 года назад
the issue is not "file type recognition". The file is an executable image, has a PE header and gets treated as such. The issue lies between keyboard and chair.

You make some friends too. You also learn to deal with bitch customers and bitch managers. Relative pay: You can purchase your manga and figurines at the end of the year, generally. Relative risk of getting murdered: Kinda high tbh. Especially on sales. 2. Tech support: It's far _far_ more disgusting than what you first expect. The thrill of watching other people's files dies out extremely fast. You must _really_ like computers to survive in that job, otherwise it's a boring ass job where you have to account for people's utter ignorance. Can get amusing or extremely depressing, depending on how well you cope with that: One day I "fixed" someone's MacBook that was "stuck"... _It was the screensaver._ (I refused to get paid for that because come the fuck on...) Relative pay: Depends on whether you get paid a fixed salary or by commission, but you aren't feeding a family and paying mortgage with that salary anytime soon. Relative risk of getting murdered: You could get stabbed outside the job. 3. Call center: The worst. Hell is a call center. You get verbally abused and you don't even get to look smug in front of the other person. People are somehow stupider while on the phone, and that's a fact. Tech support is an absolute cancer job. It can't be taken over by AI quick enough. If I'm offered a call center job I'd rather shit on my hands and clap. Plus, you may get mistaken by a scammer or something. I love this channel. It’s a shame I have no clue what is being talked about half the time. Even the basic stuff. Block chains, .exe files, blockchains. It’s witchcraft and gibberish to me. It’s a shame that as tech gets more complicated people’s knowledge of the subject remains slim to nil. The fact is that people feel they have enough reason to dive into this type of stuff.

In regards to modern games not or barely utilizing a multi-core architecture, it's because there's a significant trade-off. The more threads one adds to a game loop, the more time the "master" rendering thread fights for the finite resources necessary to feed actual data to the GPU. We've really seen a lot of progress made on this in recent years, but the simple fact remains: the more threads utilized, the more time spent fighting between those threads.

That is not the only problem: Bohemia Interactive, a tech giant selling millitary simulations, was in bad light for years for utilizing only one core in software that had over 4GB of code dedicated to CPU calculations. It got so far that they even gave an official statement to governments that they would like to offer multi core support, but simply can't, because the software has to be handcrafted for each arbitrary numbers of cores to fight race conditions, timing missmanagement and deadlocks. Imagine a company having to write up to 32 different versions of their software, I too would take the most common denomitor. In the case of BI, they said, that everything with less than 2 cores no longer can use their software and made it use 2 real and 2 virtual cores.
