Welcome to 'Let's Run It Back'! In this video, we're diving deep into the fascinating TV trope known as "Spinoff Babies." Ever wondered why some of your favorite cartoon characters suddenly reappear as younger versions of themselves in new shows? Or how classic characters are aged up or down to explore different stages of their lives? This video is your ultimate guide to understanding the "Spinoff Babies" phenomenon!
We’ll explore a variety of iconic shows that embraced this trope, each with its unique twist. From the antics of "The Tom and Jerry Kids Show" to the imaginative world of "Muppet Babies", we'll see how these series reintroduced beloved characters to new audiences. We’ll also take a closer look at how "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" gave us a fresh perspective on the Scooby gang’s early days, while "Flintstone Kids" took us back to Bedrock to follow young Fred and Barney's childhood adventures.
But that's not all! We’ll journey through the zany campus of "Tiny Toon Adventures", visit the nursery with "Baby Looney Tunes", and check out the retro-cool vibes of "Yo Yogi". Then, we’ll revisit Clifford’s younger days in "Clifford’s Puppy Days", dive into the magical mishaps of "Sabrina: The Animated Series".
The exploration doesn’t stop there! We'll discuss how The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show flipped the script by aging up these famous characters into teenagers and how "All Grown Up!" continued the adventures of the Rugrats crew as pre-teens. Lastly, we'll delve into "Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years", where we meet a younger SpongeBob and friends during their early camp days.
If you enjoy this nostalgic journey, make sure to like the video! There are plenty more "Spinoff Babies" shows to discuss, and if there’s enough interest, I might consider doing a part two to explore even more of these fascinating series. Don’t forget, the majority of our viewers aren’t subscribed to the channel. If you love reminiscing about classic cartoons and want more content like this, be sure to hit that subscribe button and ring the notification bell to stay updated on all our latest videos.
Thank you for watching, and remember-keep the nostalgia alive!
*Note - Camp WWE segment was removed due to copyright claim, which had the video blocked*

@@LetsRunItBackall so camp WWE isn't anything like that, this show is for adults only and it takes place in another dimension. WWE didn't say that, but that what I think it is.

@@VictorGonzalez-xs9oc Tiny Toons may be different characters but the idea is similar: kid characters that appeal to fans of their adult counterparts. Plus the RU-vidr does point out that the characters are a new generation & not the originals aged down. Also evidently aging up characters seems to be considered part of the same trope but in reverse?

Thanks for making this video. I remember watching Tom and Jerry Kids when it aired on reruns on Cartoon Network in 2006 when I was in 5th grade. I'm surprised you didn't talk about Muppet Babies first considering it started this trend speaking of which I also remember watching when I was young.

Not a bad idea. To me its just odd that they just werent all-in with kiddifying their whole cast of characters. I vaguely recall early promotional material referring to Tom and Jerry as "Tiny Tom" and "Jerry Jr." suggesting they were the actual Tom and Jerry's kids, making it even more confusing for me that adult Tom and Jerry were absentee fathers🤣

Sabrina The Animated Series isn't much of an aging down of a character. Teen to preteen isn't that big a gap.

I know, when doing the research for the trope it gives a lot of leeway for aging up of down and other stuff.

You missed a few. Popeye & Son - Reboot with the main characters as parents of kids. Had a killer Beach Boys like theme song Along the same lines was Pink Panther & Sons the misadventures of Pink Panther's two sons and their gang of friends. Total Dramarama - Aged down the main characters of the first few seasons of the Yotal Drama franchise as Preschoolers I'd argue that Alvin & The Chipmunks was one of these as the Chipmunks were aged up to pre-adolescence instesd of the 5-6, year olds they seemed to be in the early 1960's

Neat fact--flintstone kids is based on cave kids a comic from the 60s! Yes, flintstone kids is from the 60s decades before even muppet babies! Also, note archie was even older with little archie comics in the 50s with little kid versions of the archie gang. In the 80s a cartoon based on little archies came out but aged them to older little kids. Surprised it didn't make this list. Thanks for the fun video.

The 80's were all BIG and bombarded with those corny baby spinoffs lol.
@Galidorquest
@Galidorquest 5 дней назад
My thoughts exactly. I think the reason for these baby spinoffs is because people back in the 80's were nostalgic for the 40's & 50's. A Pup Named Scooby Doo and Flintstone Kids all had 50's themes. A lot of retro 50's media was released in the 80's. Including artists like The Stray Cats and Roman Holliday. Billy Joel's song "For The Longest Time" was retro 50's as well, and Rick Astley & Daryl Hall had a Rockabilly pompadour hairstyle.
@YakkoWarnerTower
@YakkoWarnerTower 5 дней назад
@Galidorquest I absolutely still love good ol' A Pup Named Scooby Doo for how witty and good the music was! that's true 50s media wasn't too BIG in the 90s but it was a famous throwback during the 60s, 70s, and even 80's

Reminder: Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show are direct insults at Steven Hillenberg, the og creator of Spongebob. He often said how he *didn't* want spinoffs of his show. Nick waited until the man *died* and immediately made TPSS and KK.

I would argue that Mummet Babies and Tiny Toons were the best iterations of this trope. Go back and rewatch Muppet Babies as an adult and enjoy all the pop culture references and clips they sneak in there. (There is even a dark crystal poke in there)

I LOVE a Pup Named Scooby Doo! It not only introduced me to the franchise, but also introduced a lot of Scooby Doo tropes that are still used to this day(such as Daphne being the rich kid for example). To this day, I still wish Cartoon Network would bring it back instead of trying to make a Scooby Doo educational show.

So... Not too long ago I watched the new Muppet babies (you know before it was axed by Jim Henson studios which I'm glad) and I was not impressed. They took out skeeter, skooter, Rolf, the professor and beaker and replaced it with.... Get this a penguin. Why? Why'd you do that? I get Rolf but the professor, beaker and skooter and skeeter? Plus they don't sing their own song. That was the point Disney. They were dreaming of being big stars hence the reason they were singing the song in the original. Thank goodness that trash was booted.

The Muppet Babies had been cancelled, due to the fact that they were using unauthorized clips, from other media. Otherwise, it was a cute show. My sister and I had grown up mainly in the 80s and 90s, so we wouldn't have been familiar with the shows from the early 2000s. However, we are familiar with most of the shows on this list. Since we weren't fans of Sponge Bob when it first aired, in 1999, we didn't watch the spin-off, either. By the end of the 90s, and entering the 2000s, we were outgrowing kids' shows, since I had entered adulthood, and she was a teenager. By the 2010s, we were well into adulthood. Even now, we don't know what most kids are watching, except for what's popular with preschoolers, since my niece is now 4 years old. We know about shows like Bluey and Octo Nauts, because of her. I can honestly say, however, that we weren't fans of all the shows on this list. A Pup Named Scooby Doo was adorable, and we were huge Tiny Toons fans, back in the day, especially since it was the springboard for shows like Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. But I don't think either of us were huge fans of the Tom and Jerry Kids' Show, or Flintstones' Kids, or Yo, Yogi! Clearly, this trope has been lost to time.
